I am just so impatient. Like i said, if I'd been working full time, I would have done the entire NA tour. That's my dream, to fly to the US and just follow the garbage tour. That way, I get to see the US and I get to see garbage! I'd love to do that in Europe as well, but unfortunately (a) I would need to sell my house, car and probably my body to afford it, and (b) it's even further away.
I guess also I'm just a bit afraid that the Aussie dollar will take a nose dive against the US dollar just around the time of the next garbage tour. That's what was so attractive about this year, we're on parity so there wasn't any exchange rate to worry about.

I read somewhere that Duke said that after Nth America and Mexico they might do a few European festivals then they will go back to LA to work on new material. Apparently Butch has suggested that the next release might be an EP rather than a full album. I really hope so. The thought of waiting another 2 years to see garbage again makes me want to cry!
I am so jealous of UK/ US fans and the number of gigs you guys have the chance to go to. Australia sucks arse when it comes to music. We are so isolated that it is damn near impossible to travel to OS gigs. The high dollar has at least made it slightly more possible. I wish we could somehow 'Skype' ourselves into a gig. Personally I'd pay for something like that. Or if the band were prepared to do a gig that all fans could watch live.
In some way, I miss the 'old days' when you sent your registration form off to the fan club and you got some form of special 'fan club' ID to acknowledge the fact that you made an effort. I hate those fair weather fans who 'absolutely love the band like OMG i'm your biggest fan!' when they're here, and fucking forget about them the minute they leave. Because it takes sooooo much effort to press 'like' on Facebook.
But nothing gets me as riled up as little turds who try to push in at the last minute at gigs, in front of people who have waited there for hours. If that happens to me, I make Shirley's explosions of temper look like farts in a bathtub. I am currently wearing my Soundwave bruises with wincing pride, because they are the proof I risked death in the 'Bullet for my Valentine' mosh pit, just to be front row for garbage!

The other night after the show, Butch was making a point of asking the crowd "What can we do for you?" (or something like that, may have been "what do you want")
Anyway, it left me thinking (a) we are very lucky to have a band who actually gives a shit about their fans and (b) what do we want?
All I want is for the band not to burn themselves out again. I do not want them to feel as though they must get back on the 'write-record-release-tour, write-record-release-tour' express again. I would much rather a happy band who tour for however long they want, taking breaks when they want, work on a few new songs at their leisure, and release those songs whenever they want and in whatever form they want.
I personally couldn't give a fig if I didn't hear another 'new' Garbage song for 2,3 or 4 years. I'd rather shows than albums, even if it meant I had to travel to LA once or twice a year. Besides, I think 5 albums plus B-sides is ample material to keep them going for a while!

I am rethinking my crazy idea in the cold harsh light of day. I don't want to fly all the way to the US just for one show. Damn lack of money/uni assignment! Why couldn't I have decided to study teaching next year, then I could easily have come for the whole goddamn US tour this year! O well, I will just continue to rely on kind people who upload videos of gigs, and have Garbage concerts every night at my house! So unbelievably pissed at uni for scheduling a 'miss-this-and-you-fail' seminar for next Wednesday. Hello! Garbage in Sydney! Been waiting 7.5 frigging years for the band to return to Aus! I think I was just having a knee jerk reaction to Garbage touring again, as in, 'last time I was a lazy ass and only went to one show for the whole goddamn tour and then they went on hiatus, i'm not making the same mistake again'

Melbourne Soundwave yesterday - was awesome, as are all Garbage gigs. For obvious reasons, festival gigs are never as good as concert gigs, simply because of the management constraints. I was surprised at how much of the old stuff they played; I had expected they would play mostly NYKOP era since the average Soundwave punter was still wearing nappies/diapers (depending on where you come from!) when Garbage were at their biggest.
Highlight was definitely Shirley's face when she walked out on stage - her jaw dropped open and she absolutely beamed. Clearly, she had underestimated the love for Garbage in Melbourne! Also when she screamed at the sound guys about 3/4 of the way through, "I CAN'T FUCKING HEAR!!!" after she'd asked them twice to fix her earpiece.
Personal highlight was when she saw my sign that read 'In 2005 they told us Garbage were dead. In 2012 we said Fuck You', stopped, read it, laughed and looked right at me and said, "That's right, fuck them" whilst flipping the bird!

I am so totally trying to make Vegas happen. I would love to meet some fellow G fans. Surely it isn't TOO crazy to fly from Australia, just for garbage?! Trying to decide whether it would be better to fly to Vegas or just to LA and then bus to Vegas.

OMG.
That's all I can say really. For years, (and with very green eyes!) I've read threads about these awesome US shows where all manner of shit happens, but never believed I'd ever see one!
The set was mad, they played mostly 95-05 stuff. Too funny when Shirley forgot the words to WIGU and the band totally confused her by continuing to play when she asked them to start again, so the whole song just became a repeat of the chorus and bridge (with a few f bombs thrown in for good measure!)
Highlight was definitely Duke serenading the crowd to close.
For me, the whole thing was exactly what I had dreamed of for 7 years 5 months and one day* - I was in the front row, knew every word to every song and how Shirley tends to sing it live, and they played my all time fave, 'Cup of Coffee'. There were a couple of times in the show when Shirl came over to where I was standing, bent over and looked me straight in the eye when she sang. Duke also gave me one of his guitar picks at the end of the show.
But the best bit by far was at the end of the show when the band came out and graciously signed autographs, posed for photos and chatted with fans. And for the first time ever, I came face to face with Shirley, who called me her "little party girl".
Numbers 1 and 2 on my bucket list have now been checked - met Shirley Manson, and got all 4 band members to sign my colour 'in print' (which I still check to make sure that it really happened, and I didn't just dream it, again!)
* - The reason I remember the date was that the last show in Melbourne in 2005 fell on my 23rd birthday

She's posted a new message - it's just a thank you message, but it's sweet. It's so great to be hearing from her again.

pre-schools here are not allowed to do the nativity scenes at Christmas, for the same reason.
If you remove Christ from Christmas there will be nothing left...because you'll end up with 'mas' and that's Catholic...

I think from memory that Daniel Radcliffe & Rupert Grint are about 2 years older than their characters, and Emma Watson is one year older...I think...
I so can't wait for this movie!

I'm still in shock...Australia has lost one of the few people who put it on the map. Steve didn't hide his pride in his country and he certainly didn't only call Australia home when it convieniently suited him. He did more for Australian tourism than a hundred 'where the bloody hell are you' ads, and despite the fact that his 'Crikey' catchphrase made many cringe (don't ever ask an Australian to say 'Crikey', we don't sound like Steve Irwin); he did so much for conservation of Australian wildlife...My heart goes out to the two small children who now have to go through life without their Dad...
It's been all over the news today; the Australia Zoo is still open but there's flowers everywhere...it kinda reminds me of when Princess Diana died - it took a few days to sink in. I think there's going to be a state funeral for him if the family consents
I have to say that I am a bit disappointed in the way the media handled it - he died at noon yesterday (AEST) and by 2pm it was all over the internet and practically everyone knew - yet his wife didn't know yet...I'm sorry, I think that the media should have waited for the family to be told before it went all over the world...
RIP Steve - you had a bloody good innings mate

Are you allowed to have a BAC when driving at all in the US? Here we have 0.05 for fully licenced drivers (driving for 3 years). Doesn't seem to stop the idiots who think they're alright after 10 beers tho
