I think (and this probably completely wrong) that it's something like this:
an mp3 file is a compressed sound file....when an audio track is converted into this format the program compresses the size of the file down to something that is more downloader friendly (which is why you can fit stacks of mp3's on a CDR).
The trade-off of this compression is that some of the quality of the recording is lost. with mp3, there seems to be a nice balance of reasonable file size and good quality. FLAC, on the other hand, does not compress (or if it does, barely) so that absolute minimal quality is lost and the sound file sounds exactly the same as it does on the original recording.
Personally I can't tell the difference either, but for serious audiophiles, apparently there is a difference and I'm just an ignoramus!

Why is there so much animosity between the two boards? I don't get it... I suppose that's just because I'm incredibly naive and think that we're all garbage fans so therefore everyone has something in common There are things I like about both boards and there are things I don't like about both boards...I think I've been made to feel pretty welcome on both! And dude who was knocking this board...don't knock the karma points!!! I'm not pathetic just because I need my little number to be a positive!! and hey! I just noticed I'm not a Janitor anymore...woohooo!!!!!!

argh this brings back bad memories....
I had an IBM for three years...what killed it was the bloody worm virus. It got into the uni computer system and they didn't find out until the next day, during which time I had already put my work from the previous day on my laptop. That bloody virus proceeded to corrupt every file on my hard drive, eventually killing the motherboard so that the computer took two hours to start up.
I've now got an Asus M5N which I love...and (touch wood) it seems to be a lot more reliable..the only problem I've had in 2 years is that I managed to smash the screen because it's so damn tiny...

The death penalty just seems wrong to me. I mean, the people who are sentenced to death are given that punishment because they took a human life. For whatever reason, they decided that their victim didn't have the right to live any more. The state then turns around and says 'you don't have the right to live anymore either' but that's not murder, it's justice. Since when does man have the right to determine who lives and who dies? Death is final and to me, even one wrong execution should lead to the abolition of the death penalty.

When you first realise that you could be pregnant usually the first thing to come out of your mouth is 'oh fuck'. Quite ironic, since 'oh fuck' is the root of the problem...

I have no internet at home at the moment and am using my mum's computer, so I've only got a few minutes online. I apologise for asking questions I'm sure have been asked ad nauseum, but I was wondering if someone could answer in a nutshell:
What versions of AG are being released in Australia?
How many different editions are there?

Don't worry. Had it not been for you writing this post, I would have done exactly the same thing when I move in a month's time. I think I might mark the boxes 'Music memorabilia' instead now...

haa haa I'm like you guys!!
I have a special 'Garbage' playlist on my iPod that consists of all the albums, all the b-sides, and a couple of live tracks and remixes. I went through a phase of listening to that playlist non-stop for about two months!
And I'm so with you iShark on the watching of DVD's and gazing at my collection...I must wander into the room where it is at least three times a day when I'm home, just to play with it...

Oh good, now I feel slightly better about the fact that I'd probably do exactly the same thing!!
That's assuming I wasn't too chicken shit to approach her in the first place - I know I'd make a complete ass of myself by wigging out so I probably wouldn't approach her.

I have the equipment and could do so, however since I'm in Australia, it's probably not a viable option! I'm sure there's some clever person in the US that can/will do it but if not, I'll do it
