The other night after the show, Butch was making a point of asking the crowd "What can we do for you?" (or something like that, may have been "what do you want")
Anyway, it left me thinking (a) we are very lucky to have a band who actually gives a shit about their fans and (b) what do we want?
All I want is for the band not to burn themselves out again. I do not want them to feel as though they must get back on the 'write-record-release-tour, write-record-release-tour' express again. I would much rather a happy band who tour for however long they want, taking breaks when they want, work on a few new songs at their leisure, and release those songs whenever they want and in whatever form they want.
I personally couldn't give a fig if I didn't hear another 'new' Garbage song for 2,3 or 4 years. I'd rather shows than albums, even if it meant I had to travel to LA once or twice a year. Besides, I think 5 albums plus B-sides is ample material to keep them going for a while!

Yeah I agree. last year was one if the best years of my life. Garbage released a new album after years of hoping and praying it would ever happen.
I saw them twelve times in the end - the shows, the sets, the fans have all been wonderful
I'm looking forward to hearing what they come up with next - I'm aware this current tour is starting to draw to a close. I just hope it won't be too long before we get the next iteration

I read somewhere that Duke said that after Nth America and Mexico they might do a few European festivals then they will go back to LA to work on new material. Apparently Butch has suggested that the next release might be an EP rather than a full album. I really hope so. The thought of waiting another 2 years to see garbage again makes me want to cry!
I am so jealous of UK/ US fans and the number of gigs you guys have the chance to go to. Australia sucks arse when it comes to music. We are so isolated that it is damn near impossible to travel to OS gigs. The high dollar has at least made it slightly more possible. I wish we could somehow 'Skype' ourselves into a gig. Personally I'd pay for something like that. Or if the band were prepared to do a gig that all fans could watch live.
In some way, I miss the 'old days' when you sent your registration form off to the fan club and you got some form of special 'fan club' ID to acknowledge the fact that you made an effort. I hate those fair weather fans who 'absolutely love the band like OMG i'm your biggest fan!' when they're here, and fucking forget about them the minute they leave. Because it takes sooooo much effort to press 'like' on Facebook.
But nothing gets me as riled up as little turds who try to push in at the last minute at gigs, in front of people who have waited there for hours. If that happens to me, I make Shirley's explosions of temper look like farts in a bathtub. I am currently wearing my Soundwave bruises with wincing pride, because they are the proof I risked death in the 'Bullet for my Valentine' mosh pit, just to be front row for garbage!

You know, I'd actually be happy if they simply worked out of the studio for a while. Like, release a whole lot of music and simply not tour for it for a couple of years so that they can just concentrate on writing/recording.
I mean, they won't be around forever...so having a few more albums worth of material would be great.

I'll take what I can get as long as they are happy doing whatever it is they are doing and pace themselves.

RE Vixen - I fully appreciate how lucky I have been to see the band in the cities I saw them in and in the end the number of times I got to do it - it jut happened that way.
I agree with what you say about people pushing in it can soil an otherwise amazing experience. On the whole I haven't had too much trouble with crowds at gigs -I did get upset at a joy formidable gig though - 2 girls were determined to get on the barrier where I was standing politely all evening - they whispered in my ear how they were going to knock me out the way - so I planted my arms on the barrier making myself look a bit bigger (hard to do when you are 5 foot 3!) - but no - security told me off for taking up too much room and causing trouble - I was livid - I swear Ritzy in the band gave me a dirty look in the next song - I'm never rude at gigs - I was so angry.
Anyway I digress - agree with the comments that I'm happy with what we get - I don't want to have too high expectations - if I get o have as much fun as I did last year again that would be wonderful

Oh gosh, please don't take my comment as meaning I think you're ungrateful! I guess I just get a tiny bit annoyed at the attitude (NOT from anyone here) that 'oh well you can't be that big of a fan if you're not going to ALL of the sideshows and Soundwave events'. No, I'm not, because unfortunately at the time the first sideshows were announced, I was 2 weeks off leaving my job to go back to study with no assurance as to when I would next have any income. I love garbage, but I'm not about to make myself homeless for them (besides, then where would I put all my stuff!)
There was a couple of people trying to push in front of me at Soundwave, after I had been standing in the front for 6 hours, just for garbage. I'm not an aggressive person, but seriously, if they had come between me and garbage, I would have totally lost my shit. I did not survive that friggin metal band mosh pit (I hate mosh pits, I am getting old) and end up with bruises up and down my arms, legs and chest and muscle strains from nearly having my shoulders dislocated (not to mention another injury that I won't go into!), to have some little upstart come and push in at the last minute!
But again, I digress. Totally agreed, am extremely grateful to have had another chance to see garbage play, and for NYKOP, the album we never thought we'd see.
I do think the Garbage Renaissance era is going to be different to the 95-05 years. For one, it appears there's going to be less of that industry bullshit where the band is quarantined from the fans by a schedule tighter than a bean-counter's arse, and what little downtime they have is spent schmoozing with industry wankers whose only interest in the band is how much money can be made for the industry, and who have forgotten that it is the fans who are the source of that money.
I really couldn't give a fig what the band do, as long as they're happy doing it. But I get the impression from 17 years of interviews, concerts and gig reports and 5 minutes in the presence of the band, that they are true musicians, not rock stars, and just want to make music and play it for their fans.

I don't think the industry is the same anymore, and with them in control over their own label, I don't think they'll ever have to go back through the whole process the same way again. From here ok out, Garbage will be simply flow organically, and that's how it should be. I think we're gonna see them expirament with different sounds with different EPs, they're going to keep doing smaller set tours, they're going to keep this going until they're old and can't do it anymore. I'm not worried anymore about another burnout.

I wasn't taking it personally I enjoyed reading your comments - yeah I think some fans get carried away - while we would all like to see our favourite band as much as possible - other things in life get in the way and are more important like feeding ourselves lol
I nearly booked tickets to the US to catch the band at the end of the month so I could see my friends but alas paying rent and stuff needs to come first sadly
One thing I've seen is the band do seem to care very much about the fans - so we are very lucky

I'll take what I can get as long as they are happy doing whatever it is they are doing and pace themselves. I agree. As long as they keep on recording music and touring, I'll keep buying, listening and going to their shows. As soon as they decide to stop, then congrats to them coz wherever they go from here they've been great (just hope that isn't too soon).
