A Canadian electropop act that has been called the perfect combination of Goldfrapp and Shiny Toy Guns. I have their EP & a CD-R with some tracks from their upcoming debut album. Check out "I Get Around" - their first official single. It's fucking catchy as hell! No video yet, but this is from a recent UK performance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci_x1U-qag0They've also toured with Basement Jaxx & within the Canadian indie circuit for a few years. PopJustice is one of the first widely visited sites to give this group major exposure. They are considered a "Next Big Thing" in (Good) Pop Music. In addition to the STG & Frapp comparisons, it is safe to assume that if you like the band Stefy, you will also like this act. Something for everyone, really. www.dragonette.ca/www.myspace.com/dragonettebandedit: corrected MySpace address DRAGONETTE EP + BONUSES www.sendspace.com/file/9jzyjs

Album leaked; new single is "Jesus Doesn't Love Me". They are probably my favorite new dance act of the year, tied with Klaxons.

I definitely loved 'I Get Around'. Haven't heard any of the other songs though, are they as catchy?

^ IMO, some of their other tracks are far stronger. "Black Limousine" and "True Believer" as well as "Marvellous" are bonafide standouts. Along with Calvin Harris (who will also be producing Kylie's new album), they are making some of the campiest, coolest electropop of the year.

I definitely loved 'I Get Around'. Haven't heard any of the other songs though, are they as catchy? Yes they are as catchy, and come highly recommended (as you can probably see from my sig!!!). The album is utterly brilliant. Added to those tracks oscillations mentioned, other standouts are Competition, Take It Like A Man (which I believe is the next single), Jesus Doesn't Love Me and of course I Get Around. The only thing that could've made this album better is if they'd included Magic Fantastic and the original version of Shockbox from the EP...they are two of my favourites! I'm a bit concerned that if the follow-up single doesn't do better in the UK the album might be shelved though. I Get Around only made number 92 (radio shyed away from it cos of its lyrical content - it's about being a slag lol). If Take It Like A Man doesn't make top 40 I don't think Mercury will go ahead with the release, which would be THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO POP MUSIC EVER!

PopJustice needs to try to initiate a Save Dragonette campaign, lol. Then again, it didn't exactly work for Rachel Stevens.

I think the album came out a week or two ago. I forgot the release date, but I know it was (as of a month ago) in July. I'll have to get the import, as I doubt they will manage a US release.

I had a feeling it was gonna coincide with 'Take It Like A Man' release. I must pick it up.

Oh my God, Andy. It's been pushed back 'til Oct. 15th! www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s=4b35dc5fe2241897fc19290304a4206d&showtopic=44633This sucks. I was going to do a cd-wow UK dance-pop order and get this, Bexy's new album, Calvin Harris, and NYPC. And Dizzee Rascal (whose new album will not be released physically in the US). It turns out Calvin Harris has a US date scheduled for his album, though, so I shall wait. I was so looking forward to this one, though! I mean, it's not like I don't have the whole thing sitting on my hard drive, but still. Dragonette are filling the Goldfrapp-shaped void in my life right now. HAHAHA.

^^ Well that's unfortunate. I was really looking forward to getting the album...on the other hand...Oct 15th is my birthday...so I say that's a good day to release an album.

I think it's been put back because Take It Like A Man hasn't been picked up by radio, and because the video is like a mock porno a lot of the Music TV stations have limited it's exposure. It'll be lucky to make top 40 come Sunday. I'd guess it'll be around the 50-60 mark. Hope I'm wrong. This song is even better than I Get Around.
At least the label haven't cancelled the album release though. If they still persevere after 2 flop singles then they must have soime faith in the band's commercial potential. I also hear whisperings that Jesus Doesn't Love Me may be the third single, presumably to be released in October. It's definitely a strong song, but I worry about the lyrics. It's hardly a homage to the big guy, and in the chorus intro the line "drugs, sex, rock 'n' roll" is repeated 3 times. Before every chorus!
They should just go the whole hog and release Black Limousine. It's rude, trashy and kitsch and has a filthy, fuzzy bassline. Plus it's about being an ambitious prostitute. Now that's the sort of subject matter I like to see in pop songs.

I think the more 'out there' music channels are still playing it but the more mainstream ones are simply glancing over it. Shame, really! Anyways, can't wait for the album!
