AHIW? What the hell is that?! I had to go get my Garbage CDs to identify that one (As Heaven Is Wide). LMAO
Perhaps "techno fun" is a more appropriate term than "trashy fun."
oscillations first used the term "trashy fun" to describe Betcha ("TMWIH has a dignified elegance about it, whilst Betcha is trashy fun.").
Betcha is techno fun.
Have you noticed that Butch is the only band member who ever talks about this "bummer record" in all these band member interviews. Wonder what the other band members are thinking of Butch's idea of a "bummer record."
I've located on the web the entire May 2005, Washington Post interview of Butch. I edited my prior post to put that link in there.

I think we could make an amazing record that would probably be commercial suicide!” ---------- Published on August 10, 2007: Butch Vig interviewed by Andrew Weaver of thescene.com.au. www.thescene.com.au/Music/Features/GARBAGE-INTERVIEW/Butch in his own words: “We’ve talked very loosely about making more of an unplugged, acoustic kind of record which I keep referring to as ‘The Bummer Record’ – let’s record 12 really depressing, dark, sultry songs. It’s probably commercial suicide, but at this point I don’t think we really give a shit what the record company thinks; we’re mostly interesting in making a record that we’re happy with. But who knows? Once we start writing songs it depends on where the songs take you. We may end up making a techno record.”

I have to disagree on all accounts. 1. Who cares about what fans want or a style ratio being maintained on the album? It's their vision, their craft, and they can do what they wish with it. Nothing is worse than a band delivering something purposely familiar for the sake of their fans. 2. "Free As A Bird" is terrific, and better than TMWIH could ever hope to be. 3. While it wouldn't surprise me if Shirley's album features orchestral, midtempo songs, I think this was specifically written for the compilation. And no, I don't think they cared whether it would do well or not. This is a band who is planning for their next album to commit "commercial suicide". I think G have gotten over their popularity complex. It's only their fans who care how they chart at this point. Oh well, que sura sura. And on that note, time to crack open a Heine, tune into "Ralphie's Radio" on Live365.com, and resume putting up more plastic on the windows around my house (winterizing the house). TMWIH has a dignified elegance about it, whilst Betcha is trashy fun. They couldn't be more different, but I've come to like them both equally. I'm not sure either really possesses an instantly identifiable element needed to turn heads in 2007. oscillations. wrote: "TMWIH has a dignified elegance about it, whilst Betcha is trashy fun." ...and on the AG album, the ratio of trashy fun songs to elegant songs is about 3 trash fun songs to 1 one elegant song. So with a 3-to-1 ratio favoring trashy fun songs on the AG album, I think Betcha would have been a more compatible fit on the AG album. I think most Garbage fans love Garbage most for their trashy fun songs. So wouldn't it have been a better choice to put a new trashy fun song on the AG album? Hey, I like TMWIH too. But TMWIH doesn't sound like a Garbage song to me. Before TMWIH was released, if someone had approached me with a sample of the TMWIH song and asked me if was a new Garbage song or a new song from Shirley's upcoming solo album, I would have answered "Shirley's upcoming solo album." TMWIH on the AG album reminds me of "Free as a Bird" on the Beatle's anthology album ... (I know that's far too harsh a comparison. "Free as a Bird" was a totally lame disaster whereas TMWIH is certainly not.) ... in the sense that "Free as a Bird" doesn't sound anything like a Beatles song; it sound's like a John Lennon song made to appear on a solo album, which it was (Lennon had his life cut short and was robbed of the oppurtunity to put "Free as a Bird" on a solo album). And TMWIH doesn't sound anything like a Garbage song; it sounds like a Shirley Manson song made to appear on her upcoming solo album, ...which raises the question in my mind: was TMWIH a Shirley Manson created song originally intended for release on her solo album?

Well, I guess all arts award shows are "lame" affairs, but it must be quite a rush to be recognized by your peers at one of those award shows.
As for TMWIH, I often find myself lamenting that Betcha wasn't chosen over TMWIH to be the new release single. When I imagine in my mind a video made for Betcha that's as visually edgy, fun, and addictive to watch as Push It or Paranoid, it comes so easy for me in my mind to think that Betcha would have gotten so much more exposure on radio and music television channels around the world. There's no doubt in my mind that had Betcha been chosen as the new release single, it would have certainly gotten a whole lot more airplay coverage on radio and TV in the USA (and TMWIH never made it onto TV in the USA, right?).
When the choice was made to go with TMWIH for a new single release, I wonder if a TMWIH vs Betcha argument happened amongst the band members, or happened between the band members and the record company execs.
I'm so totally of the mindset that choosing TMWIH over Betcha for the new release single was a major faux pas [in terms of doing the thing that would optimize your odds of achieving commercial success] for Garbage.

Yeah, the 2nd mask doesn't really look like Shirley, now that I see the still frame. It's just a weird thing; like what was its purpose? haha I think it is her. This pick came from VH1. It may not be the same picture they used in the video but her smile and the shape of her chin are the same I think. I don't know....... I could be wrong. Oh yes!!! Bingo!!! Compare the chin and nose ... you got it, dood!!! Mystery solved on the origin of that face mask. I'm very impressed and convinced by your presentation, tnc!

^ I see a very clear line by the chin though, like the edge of a mask. The hair around the face looks 2D, like a flat mask & then there is hair coming out behind it... I have no doubt it is a photo of a real person (maybe even Shirley as a kid), but that head does not go on that body... I agree - "a very clear line by the chin though, like the edge of a mask." But I had to keep rewinding it and watching it over and over again cuz it looks almost real - a very clever visual trick. But the second mask at 2:25 in the video, as Domenick said, "where someone is cutting with a knife and fork" is less real as the mask is a B&W image (I think it has a subtle green tint to it) in a color scene.

Got my "Korean Bodega, Pt 1" CD single a week ago. Seller was in Germany. Shipping cost was only $3 ($3 is economy shipping rate for CDs at Half.com). Seller is online merchant (www.totalrecall.eu) and CD was new in wrapper. Seller's user name at Half.com is "totalrecall_us". It's much cheaper to buy from this seller through Half.com (seller might be on Ebay also) than it is to purchase directly from seller's online store.
I highly recommend "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)." It's definitely a "must have" for a Garbage collector. This song withstands many repeat playings without tiring of the tune. This past week, while getting up in the morning, I've been putting Korean Bodega on repeat play and letting it run a half dozen times. It's the kind of tune that easily burns into your brain and you'll find yourself humming it many times throughout the day.
"Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" is only a 3 minute track. I'd love to see someone do an extended re-mix of this song and stretch it to double the length.
Also on the "Korean Bodega, Pt 1" CD single are two other song tracks and a music video: "The Fun Lovin' Criminal", "Big Night Out_The Video"(in CD audio), and "Big Night Out_The Video"(in QuickTime video). It's an "enhanced CD" like the Garbage BLM CD with the WDYLM video.
You can preview these and other Fun Lovin' Criminals songs and videos on YouTube (but you won't find "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" on Youtube).

You just made me buy the first part of the FLC single.. but it's ok since I paid 0.01 GBP for it What makes me even happier is that I've just received Vow's vinyl (the one that comes in the metal case) and I paid for it less than 5 GBP (God, I'm soo addicted to ebay!) Ditto Brother! I just did the same! A couple weeks ago, I got a very sweet deal on a "Vow (Torn Apart)" CD single on Ebay, and last night I purchased "Korean Bodega Pt 1" at Half.com - another very sweet deal. I want to further explore the music of FLC. I might start a collection their recordings.

I searched the board for Fun Lovin' Criminals "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" with Shirley doing a backing vocal on that song. I'm aware of the prior postings on that song. And the download link for that song is dead. No surprise there. I went surfing the web for a freebee streaming audio or download of "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)." No luck. But I did find some audio samples: 95-second low-Q mono sample w/ two fast-forward audio scrambling sounds in the sample (that's half the length of this song!) mp3skyline.com/search?q=FUN+LOVIN+++Korean+Bodega+Aero+Mexicano+Mix30-second medium-Q sample (copy & paste "dirty-version-.html" onto end of link address in address bar to make this link work) www.shop.it/offerta-365746/acquisti-Scaricare_Musica/sez-Scaricare_Musica_pop/korean-bodega-aero-mexicana-mix-dirty-version-.html"Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" at garbage.moonfruit.com (a funny FLC video of the original "Korean Bodega" is seen here) garbage.moonfruit.com/koreanbodega/4523377131The CD single "Korean Bodega, Pt 1" has the "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" track, and is available at Amazon, Half.com, and Ebay. "Korean Bodega (Aero Mexicano Mix)" is also on the Fun Lovin' Criminals "A's, B's and Rarities" 3-CD set.

Thanks BTweety04. ...and, on this website, I learned about the difference between mp3 and FLAC. If you're unfamiliar with the FLAC audio file format [as I was], this website offers a great introduction to it.

Ok, two things I want to address here: I like it cool version of the song. And I will be the frist to say if something sucks. I did eamil that youtube link to a band member. I wont say which one and there exact responce was "wow. pretty cool version of it too." www.metontour.com allegedly has 30 seconds of each song for previewing, and livemetallica.com has the full show for purchase. Gotta love Metallica--less than 24 hour turn around time before making profit off of a benefit gig. Try: mms://wm.elektra.com/metallica/metallica_com/2007/tour/10oct27_BridgeSchool_300wm.wmv If you weren't so quick to judge Metallica, you might have read this on the front page of livemetallica.com "All net proceeds from the sale of these shows will be donated to the Bridge School, so your download dollars go to a very worthy cause. " I should have the full soundboard mp3 uploaded in about an hours time. First: Mr. Chris, that's awesome you have an email connection with a band member! But if I were a band member, regardless how I personally felt about the performance, I would have answered with a positive polite response as it is good public relations (good politics) to do so. To have responded negatively would have been to 'burn bridges' in public relations. Second: After having had my little 'bad boy' fun of booing Metallica's acoustic cover of OHWIR on this board, I was going to part with $10 to do the download for the benefit of The Bridge School. But on the home page of www.livemetallica.com/ I don't see where it says "All net proceeds from the sale of these shows will be donated to the Bridge School, so your download dollars go to a very worthy cause." I'm going to seek another route to send my $10 to The Bridge School. Update edit: The Bridge School www.bridgeschool.orgdonation info www.bridgeschool.org/about/about_supp.html#donatinfo

YUCK! Am I the only one who thinks this is a disgusting cover? I think it's super cool to see such a classic band covering Garbage ... but this sounds gross to me. I'm with you, Elektrocute. And I bet there are a few other members on this board who are remaining mum on this thread and puzzling over all this gushing adulation of this cover performance. You have enboldened me to break my silence on this thread. Thankyou, Elektrocute!

You'll find many old, some rare, and some new HQ "G" pics ("new" meaning pics from the past that you may not have seen before) at this Polish fan site. There's also a gallery of pics from the "G" videos. It also covers Angelfish. You'll find mp3 audio on this site, but it's only 20-second samples of songs. (But that's good news 'cause if they were entire songs, I wouldn't be sharing with you this info on this Polish site on this board.) There's several very interesting looking video downloads on the home page of this site (two Spooner vids and a WDYLM@Rove'05 vid), but they are expired RapidShare downloads. Oh, and our message board is listed on the link page of this site. Garbage Zone www.garbage.pl/Check out the first pic and last pic in the "Run Baby Run" video pic gallery ("teledyski" is the pic galleries of Garbage videos). Edit Update: Babelfish doesn't do Polish to English translation. For translation, go to www.poltran.com/ The translation is choppy (it can unintentionally turn it into a very funny read), but you get the jest of what the text is about.

In the first four decades of my life (I'm 44), I never experienced becoming a rabid fan of any singer or band to the extent that I felt compelled to collect every recording that that singer or band has ever made ...until I encountered Garbage. In the mid-'90s when Garbage videos began airing on MTV, as edgy, fun and addictive as their S/T era videos were, I thought Garbage was going to be a "two-hit wonder," then disappear. When I saw the "Push It" video in the V2.0 era, that became my "Oh my god, what is this band going to do next?!" moment. And that video persuaded me to go buy both the S/T and V2.0 albums. I listened to those two albums so much that I burned myself out on them (I got sick of them, as in, anything done in excess can become a bad thing) and I sold those two albums at Half.com in the summer of 2000. Due to the event of 9-11, I missed the debut of the BG era of Garbage. And I'm assuming many others missed it too due to the 24/7 all channels media coverage of 9-11. 9-11 obliterated the news of Garbage's launch of their BG album and the launch of their BG era. It wasn't until I upgraded my internet connection from dial-up to DSL in 2004 that my love affair with all things Garbage was re-ignited THANKS TO YOUTUBE. (Herein lays the argument for why recording artists and record companys should just "live and let live" when they see their copyrighted music appear unauthorized [in non-profit 'private' postings; of course, not in for-profit 'business' postings] on YouTube. Word to Prince, LOL.) And so now I am an owner of all of Garbage's officially released album and video materials, and I've started collecting CD single releases (isn't that what recording artists and record companies are hoping for?). As long as Shirl, Butch, Duke, and Steve continue to have enthusiasm to make new music together and do more concert tours, then I see no reason why their longevity in the mainstream music scene cannot be like that of U2 (and U2 has continually been experimenting with changing their sound over the years). Edit update: The Home Video Prince Doesn't Want You to See www.abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3777651&page=1Prince = control freak I pity his significant other (if he has a significant other) who has to put up with that.
