Yes excited! Completely missed there was a working title, I like it, although might be a bit long perhaps. I've been trying to think how they might time the releases this year. Will the new album be released earlier in the year, with the G re-release to follow in August, or both at same time? We haven't had much in the way of teasers compared to preNYKOP, was that cos they'd been away so long or could it mean the albums coming later in the year. Saying that, the Mexico festival gig is in March so surely that'll be kicking things off and showcasing a couple of new songs at least? Then there is RSD where we're guaranteed to get something surely!!! Can't wait , what an exciting time to be a darkling :-) I imagine that they'll be re-releasing the self-titled album on the 20th anniversary, yeah. And you're right, they've been much more conservative with teasers this time around. I think they want this record to be a surprise so I'm guessing that some of the material on it is gonna be very different, and that gets me even more excited!

I'm gonna have to go with Breaking Up The Girl, although all of the BG era covers are awesome. Isn't it weird though that the cover for Androgyny is a cherry while the cover for Cherry Lips is a high heel shoe? Shouldn't that be the other way around? Also to anyone here who is also a Legend of Zelda fan, the BUTG single cover is totally a heart container, am I right?

NIN- Push It No Doubt- Special Foo Fighters- Drive You Home Hole- Vow The White Stripes- Cherry Lips (Jack White said it himself lol) Yeah yeah Yeahs- Androgyny Yuna- Milk (definitely would be an acoustic version) Bjork- Happy Home Marilyn Manson- Not Your Kind of People Lana Del Rey- You Look So Fine
Not saying I'd like all these versions, but they'd fit. I would be very keen to see Bjork's Happy Home and Yeah Yeah Yeah's Androgyny.

People of the Garbage fandom! Shirley appeared in a recent interview with WARP magazine in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpFHxzBAeKsIn the video she mentions briefly the recording process for the new album, as well as her take on the Version 2.0 album and the modern fashion industry. Just thought I'd share it since no one else seemed to notice.

I love the short clip they posted on their website. It will be interesting to listen to the whole album and piece together what she means by romantic. Hopefully it won't be obvious. I like when they use somewhat cryptic lyrics. ps. mc6623, I like your avatar! That's my artwork! Did you see the video clip uploaded to their facebook? It also has some new material, albeit it's a bit fuzzy.

Yeah maybe what I said was a bit dumb! I guess I just don't like those 2 songs. Anyway, we have the first date on the tour announced, woop woop - not long to go! Hells to the Yeah! Beloved freak is actually my favourite song off NYKOP, but that's cool. Everyone's got their own preferences.

I absolutely agree but I guess it comes down to what you perceive as romantic lol! To me it conjures up Westlife songs or something. I would put Cup of coffee, you look so fine, tell me where it hurts etc among my faves but they are so sad, there's a live video of cup of coffee on YouTube where shirley tries hard not to break down, it's heartbreaking. If it's songs like that she means then bring it on. As a person, Shirley seems far happier and comfortable in herself in recent years and I think that definitely manifested itself in NYKOP having more positive lyrics. I really hope we can leave the whole outcast theme of Beloved freak and NYKOP song behind though as that's a bit sickly for my liking. Fair enough. But Garbage has always had an outsider theme in it's lyrics: Parade, Right between the Eyes, Begging Bone, Queer, Cherry Lips etc.

Let me be the first to defend Androgyny. It was my favourite single and it's probably the most defining single on the album. The chorus kicks ass and the bridge is stellar!! Such an interesting fusion of genres all at once!

I think Shirley's idea of romantic might be different to most peoples! I hope so anyway, a loved up Garbage album just sounds wrong! I want it to be dark, depressing, about revenge, hate, lust, bitterness and despair. Can't wait! Truth be told I just want another album so will be happy regardless. I think romance might be the right way to go actually; Shirley's rarely tackled it in her lyrics head on without it being creepy and/or subversive (like #1 Crush or Milk). The only "love songs" I'd say Garbage has ever made are You Look So Fine (unrequited love), Tell Me Where It Hurts, Big Bright World, The One and maybe Temptation Waits. It's good that as a female artist Shirley doesn't write many lovey-dovey lyrics, but romance can still be interesting. Of course I still want it to sound like Garbage, but it'll be interesting to see what they'll explore with the new album!

NEWS NEWS NEWSI just found an article on a Mexican news website here where they interviewed Shirley Manson and, at the end of it, she gives a hint of the album as being "very romantic". Thoughts? What do you guys hope for the new album to sound/feel like?

Is anyone else hoping they've re-recorded the Debut rather than just a remaster. I'd love to have studio recordings of how they arrange the songs live nowadays. Plus Shirley's voice is much better now. Re-recordings could be interesting (or even remixes), but honestly I just can't wait for the b-sides! A live track or two would be cool as well (especially My Lover's Box or trip My Wire).

Time Will Destroy Everything is now one of my go-to songs for the apocolypse (not that i believe any of that crap).
It's probably one of the most electronic songs they've ever made (and one of the most different). I think it's good and very dark.

Butch recently stated they hope to be done recording by the end of the year. New album early/mid 2015 with a summer/fall tour next year. Wouldn't be surprised a couple of sporadic appeareances before then. 2015 is the 20 year anniversary of Garbage. He stated that they are looking to reissue their first album (Please make it vinyl!) and some archival footage and b-sides as well. Can't wait. Can't wait to get my hands on "sleep" and "trip my wire" assuming those are on the re-release!

1. Beautiful Garbage 2. Version 2.0 3. Garbage 4. Not Your Kind of People 5. Bleed Like Me Holy Crap! That's exactly how I rank them! Beautifulgarbage is an eclectic masterpiece that best showcases both Garbage's maturity as a band and Shirley Manson's deep, introspective lyrics. I will always love this album and consider it to be the pinnacle of experimental pop rock. Garbage has always had a unique sound, but there is nothing that sounds remotely like Beautifulgarbage as far as I can tell. Version 2.0 is pure pop-electro-rock awesomeness in a record with a great ballad at the end, but I still consider BG to be their masterpiece. I'd refer to this one as their "classic" record and the one I'd recommend to friends (beautifulgarbage is a bit too broad to recommend to just anyone) Garbage is a great debut record and most bands don't release their best work on their first album so it's ok that the debut isn't the best. I hate having to rank NYKOP so low; it's still a really good album. It's just not quite as solid as the first three but it's still better than the vast majority of stuff that I heard released in 2012. While I find people rank BG low because of it being too different from their other work (which I think is a dumb excuse not to like it IMHO), I find the criticism that Bleed Like Me is too typical to be a fair criticism. It still has the best album-ender of any garbage album, but there's just not enough variety on this record. Even though it's still good, this album just seems a little too easy for Garbage.

I'm a little late to the party but...
Favourite Song: Special Worst Song: What Girls Are Made Of Most Overrated Song: I think I'm Paranoid (I like it, but still overrated) Most Underrated Song: Drive You Home Song that was probably written for you: Parade, Special Best B-Side: Trip My Wire Best Album: Beautifulgarbage (Haters Gonna Hate) Most Underrated Album: Beautifulgarbage Best Single: Special Worst Single: Battle in Me Best Music Video: Push It (everyone else already said it lol) Best Song played live: Trip My Wire, My Lover's Box, So Like a Rose, Blood For Poppies, When I Grow Up Saddest Song: Happy Home Song that makes you dance: When I Grow up (This is my jam!), Temptation Waits, Androgyny
B-Sides that should have made the following albums:
Self-Titled: Trip My Wire, Sleep, Subhuman (#1 Crush works best as a stand alone single) Version 2.0: Hmm it's hard. Soldier through this is good, but it doesn't fit the album. Maybe 13 x Forever? Beautiful Garbage: Begging Bone, Happiness Pt 2 (I really like April Tenth but it's probably best as a b-side although it could also be a good non-album single) Bleed Like Me: Never Be Free, Honeybee NYKOP: Lets replace What Girls Are Made Of on the bonus version with Love Like Suicide. Agreed?

In terms of live, my two favourites would have to be:
1. Like many others, I loved her performance of trip my wire at the Oster Festival where she just goes total freak mode!
2. The most beautiful emotional performance by Shirley Manson for me would be when she performed So Like a Rose with her guitar at the MTV night stand. You can really sense the emotion in her voice at the end where she does the "Ahs".
In terms of studio tracks, the "oohs" in the seccond verse of Special are just perfect. Also when Silence is Golden switches to 4/4 time you can really hear the rage, sadness and confusion in her voice as she sings "My body's a temple, but nothing is simple".
