Isn't it odd the way the best American sounding rock and roll bands were all English? Rolling Stones, Led Zep, Beatles? Those great bluesy riffs from the Stones....how did they do it? and how come none of the American bands did it better? Very strange.

Come off it girl. What about Patti Smith? The Doors? The Velvet Underground? REM? Nirvana? How dare you slag US bands!

No dear you misunderstood me. I didn't say there were no great American rock and roll bands. Just that curiously the English ones sounded more authentic, more bluesy. It is strange you gotta admit. Then again I'm not American. Maybe they don't sound all that authentic.

You see how it's possible to make your own entertainment? Always said I could cause murders in an empty house...

Well you could argue that the Stones etc just stole from the old blues masters. The US bands however had more originality and "sense of self" if you will.

True enough. Oddly though English solo acts were the most innovative I feel. Syd Barret, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel.

Rubbish. What about Patti Smith, Jeff Buckley, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix?

Well. Let's just say the Brits were the best art-rockers. I don't think you'd dispute that would you? More sense of theatre if you will. Bowie, Bush, Gabriel.

Yes but then your "authentic" argument loses credibility. Because if it's all theatre what is there to believe in? Where's the heart of Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin. Art rock: Too theatrical. Too self-conscious for my liking.

Let's agree to disagree. Change the subject. What are you listening to?

Ode to Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry. The original and bet version. The dramatic fiddle at the beginning. The tragic storyline. Sinead O'Connor's version is good too. When she sings the line "She and Billy Joe was throwing something off the Tallahache bridge" there's this awful baby screaming sound. Like that's what they threw off the bridge. Very effective.

How are you feeling now honey? Still feel like vomitting my poor baby?

No I'm feeling better now thanks for your concern. I ate some bread in order to induce vomiting. But it had a palliative effect. Maybe I just needed a lining on my stomach to absorb the alcohol.

Good. Because I needed to talk to someone tonight. And some of them lurkers...Jesus. I mean why not say something? What's the point of visiting a message board if you don't have anything to say? Weird aren't they?

I was thinking about how some of the blusey rock came from england myself... maybe it's because they were doing the right thing at the right time.

I just skimmed over your journal. Didn't take much of it in i'm afraid cos i'm nauseus. But noticed that you like the Banshees too. They covered Gun very effectively didn't they? Do you know who did the original version? Cos I'd like to hear that too.

No problem! That was an easy search. I remeber trying to search to find who was the one who designed the type of dress that Vampirella (Don't know about Vampirella... maybe I should have searched about her first...) and Morticia of "The Addam's Family". I also think if I knew anything about fashion, I would be able to figure out about the dress... Hmm.... let's see... AH!!! Elvira wears a similar dress!!! Durh!!! I should have thought of that sooner!!! Yippeeeee!!!!
