STUDIO DIARY #44 (April 19th - April 26th, 2001)
Friday 20th
Had a guitar lesson this afternoon and I was superfantastic if I say so myself! My teacher even bestowed upon me a verbal gold star!!!! Hee Haw.
There is something to be said about learning a new skill. Challenging yourself by pushing through the fear barrier!!! It's so utterly liberating and I swear it helps boost confidence.I couldn't recommend it more highly. (Ha ha......am I sounding like Marjory Proops or WHAT?!?!?!?!)
Saturday 21st
We're working on a brand new song called "Wonderjam" and i have to admit.....it came whirling out of leftfield. One minute we were discussing getting started on mixing and the next......oh I dunno.......we got this really daft keyboard groove going and before I knew it I was in my little booth shoving down some scratch vocal ideas and the whole thing sounded so different from everything else on the record that it seemed worth pursuing. We just can't seem to help ourselves at this juncture!
We are now aware that we're all going to have to decide what songs will make it onto the record and which songs will have to be left off.A battle royale lies ahead!!!!
Sunday 22nd
Day off
Monday 23rd
I have absolutely NOTHING to say today except that I've been busy singing for nearly 6 hours and I'm knackered so I'm going to bed.
Tuesday 24th
I was conversing with Steve on the patio this morning. Our conversation went as follows:
ME: You're awfully quiet. Are you all right?
STEVE: I'm a quiet guy Shirl.
ME: I guess you are Steve.Fair enough.
STEVE: And you know.....I don't really have anything to say so I figure.......if you don't have anything important to say......say nothing at all.
ME: Well that illustrates the difference between you and me perfectly Stevo. I figure the exact opposite.I say........if you don't have anything important to say,go ahead and share it!
Wednesday 25th
Tracked vocals into the early morning hours last night. We're on a mad dash towards the finishing line and the studio hours are getting longer and longer. It's weird.....I'd forgotten just how many of my vocals were guides and it was a shock to my system to realize that I was going to have to re-sing a high percentage of them due to the fact that keys had changed, tempos had changed and we'd just pitch shifted or edited the guides in order to focus our work on the instrumentation.Hence the amount of singing I'm doing in this last week before we begin mixing in earnest.(We were due to begin today but we got caught up with "Wonderjam", the new song I mentioned earlier this week.)
Thursday 26th
Oh it's a wonderful spring day and what better a note to finish recording (only to launch ourselves into the mixing process) than that?!
A bottle of champagne is chilling in the fridge as I write.Patiently waiting for it's cork to be popped.Today is the BIG day people. It's all beginning again NOW.
Right HERE.
