STUDIO DIARY #31 (January 19th - 25th, 2001)
Friday 19th of January
My back is still killing me, no matter how many ice packs I shove on the hot spot.
I feel just like defenseless and injured little bird.Luckily for me the boys have all been extremely sympathetic so I can't complain too much.
But of course I will.
Did a brief interview with Spin Magazine this afternoon and I was so LAME that I couldn't even string a sentence together to save myself.
Also wanted to puke at all the inaugural celebrations on TV.What a bloody joke.I mean PLEASE.Spare us THAT at least.
Saturday 20th
Finished reading 'A heartbreaking work of Staggering Genius" this morning.I liked it well enough I suppose but I'm looking forward to starting something new.I'm going to launch myself into "Sarah" by JT Leroy.Have you heard of it? The protagonist is a 12 year old boy who goes by the name of Cherry Vanilla. That alone is reason enough to make me want to read the story. God........what a MESS I've made of my hair.It looks atrocious.I don't know what to do about it.I'm going to have to make an appointment to have it properly cut I suppose.
My coat on the other hand looks much better.I did a really good job on that!!!!!!!
Oh that reminds me................I had this hilarious dream last night about me performing a show with OASIS and Noel Gallagher was making goo goo eyes at me and I was totally into it.And all the time he was talking to me, I was eating a little lemon-cream tartlet and the feeling of all that fluffy sweet yet sour cream oozing down my throat was really erotic and extremely tasty!!!!!
Ha ha ha.......
Going to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon tonight.I can't WAIT.
Sunday 21st
Day off
Monday 22nd
If you see any movie this year make sure it's Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon".It's absolutely exquisite in every sense. I can't remember the last time I lost myself so completely in something so utterly divine.Feeling so much brighter this morning as a result.
Matt Chamberlain is coming in tonight to play some drums on a track called "Over a cup of coffee" because we've tried so many different approaches on this song and can't quite conjour up the right feel we're looking for. We're hoping Matt can work his voodoo on us just like he worked magic for some of our favourite comtempories. Tori Amos and Fiona Apple for example. (I have severe crushes on both of those girls.) Butch seems to be loving the idea of playing with another drummer and is looking forward to stealing some tricks.
Tuesday 23rd
Spent the day in Chicago with my girlfriend and then drove back up to Madison before nightfall with the car stuffed full of shopping bags and a carry-out from BIG BOWL,our favourite noodle restaurant in the whole city.Oh we had SO much fun!!!!
By the time we got back to the studio the boys all seemed rather despondent having been beleaguered with computer problems all day which is always horribly frustrating.
A couple of hours later however and everything seems to be running smoothly and Matt Chamberlain is downstairs tracking drums in the live room as I type.(He is FRIGHTENINGLY good.I actually feel almost sick with excitement in my tummy when I think about it.Musicians like Matt have been touched by the hand of god and they don't even know it.)
Talking of which....has anyone been watching the documentary series "Jazz" on PBS? It's been incredible. You should check it out.
Wednesday 24th
Woke up and watched the Teletubbies whilst supping coffee and flicking through the morning papers. I really enjoyed myself which worries me somewhat.Aren't the Teletubbies meant for babies??!?!?!?!?!
What else? I managed to do my very first PULL UP from a standing position this morning whilst working out.It made me feel extremely healthy!!!!! It's snowing here again in Mad Town so I've had to pile on the woolly clothes to match the temperature. They make me feel so utterly hideous. All those sweaty and shapeless layers. They make me look totally VILE.
To add insult to injury I took yet another chunk out of my hair this afternoon. Duke told me it's starting to look weird.I really MUST put on an appoinment to get it sorted.
Thursday 25th
May I take a minute to acknowledge my national poet, Mr Robert Burns? This being the date on which scottish people around the world celebrate his greatness every year.
Remember the 25th of January. It is on this very day that Scots get together with their friends, boil a haggis (A sheeps stomach stuffed to the brink of combustion with offal, blood, spices and oatmeal!) and drink themselves silly whilst reciting poetry and singing hearty songs about shagging and drinking and cheating the inland revenue.
