Hi,
I keep reading on your site RE: European & US tour dates. When do we see you in Australia again???
-- Craig Yallop
Hey Craig-
We are planning to get back to Australia in late February, early March. No way would we pass it up - we had too good of a time last time we were there. We wouldn't forget that Australia was the first place where our first album was successful on the charts anywhere in the world.

Hi Garbage!!!!!
Greetings from Mexico How is it going guys (and girl)? This is the first time I write you (in fact this is the very first time I write an Email to a rock band) and I'm very excited. Well let's go to the point. since I heard your music for the first time I've been very surprised by the sound of the band, I can't exactly find the words to describe it so I only will apply this: SENSATIONAL, MARVELOUS, WONDERFUL. It's a great experience hear a different sound that can shake, the sometimes bored, music scene, it's so refreshing so I could listen it all day long. Unfortunately I couldn't be able to saw you the last time you came to Mexico, I hope you may return. Well I think it's all for this time, I would like to hear from you soon.
Darkly yours
-- ALEJANDRO PUENTE
ALEJANDRO,
You are too kind. We hope to see you in Mexico City as soon as we can get there.

dearest garbage,
i'm sure you are generally pretty busy people, so i'll keep thshort. first the normal fan shit: i'm an 18 year old guy who's enjoyed your tunes since your first record, and i would like to say that the second kicks twice the ass that the first did. second the big question on my mind, from one musician to another (and this is for anyone to answer, i'm not picky): does your music reflect a lot of emotion personally, or does a lot of it some from contractual obligations. maybe i should elaborate. do you compose more for yourselves, or for the masses. you guys kick ass, never forget it (i felt a small fan obligation to say that). thanks.
your friend in musicianship,
-- Andy Garrison
Andy,
Hope you kick twice the ass that you did three years ago too. We make our songs to please ourselves. It's a bonus that other people like them as well, but if you do it for any other reason your music will probably be pretty lame. That's true for most things.

Hi! My name is diego. I live in Costa Rica. I saw your interview on MTV latino the other day and i think it's great that you want to visit this part of the world, but it's sad that you only think of the bigger countries. I'm pretty sick of watching about the great concerts in Buenos Aires or Mexico...I want to have the chance too!!! You can find very interesting things in our country--I think you're amazing and I LOVE Shirley. i've got both your CD's and check out the web looking for stuff about you. by the way, your site is cool enough, don't worry!!!
Diego,
My wife and I have been talking about visiting Costa Rica for a long time- it sounds amazingly beautiful! I don't know anything about the concert situation there, but maybe you will tell us through our website! We would love to play there- in any event, we hope to see you at a concert soon! Keep listening, Steve

I had been to Doctor Music Festival and seen your gig. I'd like to know what happened with the sound. I couldn't hear Shirley so well.
-- Jaume Vidanes Camó
Jaume...
We had some problems with our moniter mixer that day, and Shirley had a tough time hearing her vocals. That happens at some of the festivals because we didn't get a soundcheck. We will be back on tour in Europe early next year doing our own show, so please come and see us, it will sound better!!! Garbage

Shirley, I read that you were once a back-up singer for Duran Duran...who I am also a big fan of...when did you do this...if you did it at all? Did you enjoy it? Thanks
- Robbie C
Dear Robbie C,
I am afraid that I was never a back-up singer for Duran Duran. I don't know where that one came from. Just goes to show......don't EVER believe what you read!!!!!!
Cheers,
Shirley

My question is about a lyric in When I Grow Up, which is one of my favourite songs. Shirley, was "God I'm pregnant" autobiographical? Were you ever actually pregnant? I know this is a really personal question, but I've been wondering about this since the day Version 2.0 was released! Also, I would really like to know all of the band member's birthdays.
- Julia Szymanski
Dear Julia,
No I have never been pregnant although many of my friends have! And of course there were the inevitable teenage scares I suffered through. As you can imagine....I am a great advocate of condoms. Unless of course you are planning on having a baby............which is a wondrous thing I'm sure.
Finally.....in answer to your question, my birthday is on the 26th of August.
Cheers,
Shirley
------------------------------------------
A question to Shirley: why do you sing "I am red hot kitchen"? I think it doesn't make any sense at all! Shouldn't it be "red hot ketch-up"? Please answer my question, I'm very interested in your answer! Besides: I enjoyed your gig in St. Gallen, Switzerland very much! Thanks for singing #1 Crush and Thirteen!!
- Annina
Dear Annina,
I sang "red hot kitchen" to evoke the idea of lust. As in "heat". I was trying to avoid using the words "I am horny as hell". In future I will refrain from attempting to be poetic!!!!!
Cheers,
Shirley

Shirley once said that she was a fan of David Bowie. What is her favorite song/album, and are any of the Garbage men fans as well? Also, Duke looks really scary. Is he?
- Phaze8
Dear Phaze8,
Yes I am a huge Bowie fan!!! My favourite album is"Ziggy Stardust" of course!!!
Cheers,
Shirley
PS: Duke is not in the least bit scary.
------------------------------------------
I just want to know if the whole band takes part in the recording process as opposed the just the songwriting.
- Shawn Vibert.
Dear Shawn,
Yes we do indeed all contribute to the song writing. We work as a team which is part of the fun of playing in a band. Otherwise we would just all release solo albums!!!
Cheers,
Shirley
Shawn,
I do all of the work while the others watch TV. No, actually, all four of us share equally in the writing, recording, and everything else in Garbageland.
Thanks for asking,
Steve
------------------------------------------
When I saw you at the Loreley-Festival you played a song I didn t know at all. Probably it was a b-side, but from which single?? (I m not talking of "Trip my wire"...). Please let me know the songs name if possible,
thank you very much,
- Eva Heringhaus
Dear Eva,
Maybe the song you refer to was "Thirteen" which is a cover version of a song written by a band called "Big Star". We released it as a b-side with "Push it."
Cheers,
Shirley
Eva -- maybe it was #1 Crush? That was a b-side to our Subhuman single as well as a cut on the Romeo and Juliet film soundtrack.

I love the new album and listen to it every night while running. I noticed something several weeks ago on "Wicked Ways" that I'd like to ask you about - is there a sample of a ping pong ball being hit in it? Good luck on your tour and I hope you will come to Atlanta in the fall.
- Patrick H. Vickers
Dear Patrick,
No........there is absolutely no ping pong ball being sampled on our record!!! What a peculiar idea!!!!
But we are definitely coming to Atlanta in the fall. See you there. Bring your bat.
Cheers,
Ms Manson
Pat,
I don't think there are any ping pong balls on the record, but we will keep your idea in mind for the next one. Remember to wear highly visible clothing while you are running at night with your walkman thinking such bizarre thoughts- safety first!

I'm a member of the internet mailing list "Trash-talk", which you probably know is a garbage fan list. I don't know if you pay much attention to what goes on on the list, but recently we've decided to make ourselves an official T-shirt, so that we could recognize each other at concerts and whatnot. In order to come up with a design, we organized a contest and voted on all entries. It's been narrowed down to three designs, which are being voted on currently. Anyway, I thought it only fair to let you in on our idea and ask what you think of the designs. The 3 finalist designs can be seen here:
Abe Wong's design - xenopsi.com/psiflare/garbage/
Claud Knaus's design - www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/3130/tshirt2.html
My design (Brendan Kelly) - members.aol.com/shirley5a/tshirt.jpg
If you get a chance to look over our designs and tell us what you think of them, it'd be a thrill to share with the list. I realize i kinda used the same idea with the crosshairs over Shirley's eye as that of the crosshairs over Duke's eye on the new tour shirt. It would mean the world to us if you'd share your opinions on our designs. Thanks,
- Brendan Kelly
Dear Brendan,
I am on holiday at the moment but I will definitely check out the designs as soon as I can and let you know what I think.
Cheers,
Shirley
