Wait....is this for the US? Or are there separate grammy awards for the UK? B/c how would TMWIH win any of those categories without ever having been released in the US?

This is for the US. They are entering under the assumption that TMWIH garnered minor radio airplay in the States & therefore technically was a "single" under the provisions of the Grammy submission guidelines.

well here's hoping......not that Garbage have had much luck with Grammy nominations but a nomination is still something if it happens.
A nomination would be definitely brilliant promo for Shirl's solo album (which will prob be out following February's Grammys) which the cynical side of me suspects is why Universal have bothered to put TMWIH and AG forward for consideration.
These things all work together - do you think it's sheer coincidence that Special was re-issued to Pop and Mainstream radio, and import copies of "Special" made physically available in stores the week of the Grammy 99 nominations for Version 2.0 (Rock album and Album of the year) and on the same day V2.0 was certified platinum and G certified double platinum? Win or lose the Grammys, Garbage would win in the end.... the album shipped a further million units in the US, could be promoted as "platinum, twice grammy nominated V2.0" and "Special" soared up the Hot 100.
Without the Grammy nominations I have no doubt V2.0 wouldn't have enjoyed the further year of life it got in the US, up til that point the record had been selling less than was hoped by the industry and still living in the shadow of the debut album. These things all work together....

Let's hope they get some nominations! "Tell Me Where It Hurts" has so much potential for awards. It sounds so grown up and needs to be heard by more people. Keep your fingers crossed! #cross-fingers#

In 1999 they were so close to win at least a Grammy award; now is payback time ;D

In 1999 they were so close to win at least a Grammy award; now is payback time ;D Thing is, they had a better chance at winning in 1999; they were much more mainstream at the time as opposed to now where no one in the US has ever even heard the new song unless they're a hardcore fan or they caught it by accident somehow.

HAHA....There is no way in hell TMWIH is gonna get nominated. Maybe AG for longform video but thats it. I am curious as to what the 2007-08 release FMQB has listed is..maybe its just based on the rumors of G doing another album or it really refers to Shirley's solo work.

Grammys are a popularity contest....little to do with what is actually happening in music & what is actually good. I think Shirley's solo album will have more cred if they aren't nominated.....the last thing I want is her seeming all Sheryl Crow to people. Of course "cred" is irrelevant to me personally, but I think it might be misleading nonetheless.

That really isn't a nomination. That right there is a list of songs that came out on radio with a minimum of 20 spins. I will not get my hopes up because if you notice - PLENTY of those songs you don't recognize. But cheers if they get nominated once again.

^Right, as I stated, they merely submitted the song for consideration (yes, you have to apply to even be considered for a nomination - radio airplay isn't enough). But many acts don't even bother to do that, so it's still an interesting/ambitious move on their part, even if the odds are very much against them.
