the songs were pretty samey save for about 3 or 4 good songs - no pop hooks on it - suprising since she said she was listening to ABBA for inspiration on this record. The solo tracks/EP she did like "I wrote the book" were stunning

Why these morons that run Metacritic include so many average & negative reviews? The score is lowered to 61 by some terrible new reviews from Clashmusic & Paste Magazine. There are a lot of positive reviews (some of them already posted in this topic); why they keep ignoring them? www.metacritic.com/music/not-your-kind-of-people/critic-reviews

Someone email them and demand they post the Rolling Stone and Spin reviews -- two very positive reviews from the biggest American music magazines -- immediately.

Emailed.
'Rolling Stone awarded the album 3.5 stars (70/100) and Spin awarded it 8/10 (80/100). It's only fair that the two biggest music publications in America are included here. Thanks.'

I am curious how AllMusic will rate NYKOP. With the exception of BG, they have been fairly so-so about everything since the debut.

AV Club: C+ www.avclub.com/articles/garbage-not-your-kind-of-people%2C75285/This is the best: Keeping with Manson’s sultry, damaged allure, “Automatic Systematic Habit” opens the disc with a shrill blast of icy electro that feels more canned than contemporary, even as she reestablishes—or perhaps rehashes—her lurid old persona with the lines, “I want to be your dirty little secret.” First, those aren't the lyrics. Second, if he had even bothered to pay the slightest bit of attention, THE ENTIRE SONG is about refusing to be the other woman. Does this guy have problems understanding basic English? Just another reason to ignore "reviews" altogether. If they won't bother to get the basics right, why bother reading them? The lazy author is on Twitter: www.twitter.com/jason_m_heller

So how do you know it's 3,5/5?
edit: Ok, I understand. Rating is there, but no words.

USA Today 3 1/2 (out of 4) stars www.usatoday.com/life/music/reviews/story/2012-05-21/garbage-not-your-kind-of-people/55122246/1By Elysa Gardner, USA TODAY Garbage burst out of the plodding, ponderous morass that was mid-'90s rock with a sound and sensibility that were at once raucous and elegant, playful and intense. On the band's first new album since 2005's Bleed Like Me, those assets are very much intact — and, sad to say, just as sorely in demand. The tracks on People, all written and produced collectively, are showcases for both the musicians' distinctive camaraderie and their individual strengths. Singer Shirley Manson remains a witty grown-up in a modern rock landscape littered with navel-gazing man-children; her delivery can be cool and wry, then conjure defiance (the breathless Automatic Systematic Habit) or longing (the darkly trippy Control) with blunt force. Drummer Butch Vig provides a rhythmically charged foundation for multi-instrumentalists Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, allowing for effervescent delights such as the single Blood for Poppies, with its densely layered guitars and propulsive hip-hop groove, and the dissonant but fiercely catchy I Hate Love. Let's hope we don't have to wait seven years for another fresh dose of Garbage's exuberant teamwork. Love this reviewer Elysa. She has great taste. I almost always agree with her reviews which is rare. It's weird because otherwise USA today is kind of a crappy publication.

Manson has always trafficked in that irony: a rock star pretending to be an outcast, a beauty feigning beastliness.
HOW DARE HE JUDGE HER.

It's amazing that these people are employed. And I say that as someone who technically works among them.

With this review, Garbage deserved a 4 star rating. 3.5 is still pretty good. Also "Vox"? He meant Tricky.
