Kanye West should do stand up or host a talk show or star in his own reality TV show - something that involves talking! Because the things that come out of his mouth are sooooooooo good! Speaking with Vibe magazine, the Love Lockdown singer said he wants fewer fans…so he can pose naked. Following a logic only Kanye could possibly know, he explained, "I want the freedom of having less fans. It's like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility. It's like Björk. If she wanted to pose naked, you'd be like, 'Oh, that's Björk.' But if I wanted to pose naked, people would draw all type of things into it. I definitely feel like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I'll pose naked." Or in a swan dress! For some reason we have the feeling that if suddenly Kanye had less fans, he'd complain about wanting more fans. We have to give the Auto-Tune-er credit for wanting to "break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture," even if his methods of doing so seem strange. This is "great art" after all. What we don't understand is why he doesn't pose nude now…it's not like he thinks badly of himself or anything. "I believe I am the greatest entertainer of this generation," he told the magazine. Well then! Get on with your naked self!!!! perezhilton.com/

With her native country in economic and social upheaval, Iceland's most famous pop iconoclast is doing her best to spur the country with hefty investments in environmentally responsible companies, among other well-thought-out tactics. (Not bad for a giggling pixie-sprite.) But Björk isn't the Prime Minster of Iceland (yet)-- there's only so much she can do. So she's back at doing that other thing she does well: re-purposing her own material in beautiful (and sometimes worthwhile) packages. Hence, the 2xCD/2xDVD Voltaic, a box set originally alluded to in our interview back in October. This isn't some half-assed deluxe edition of a record you probably never loved in the first place-- in fact, the disappointing album from which this set stems isn't even represented in its original form. But even if much of Volta left you a bit cold, the tour was a top-notch, brass-band-enhanced spectacle, and it's well represented on Voltaic. The main draw: A live DVD taped in Paris and Reykjavík featuring a whole bunch of Volta songs that sounded a lot better live than on record, along with some old classics. Also: the long-rumored Live at Olympic Studios CD, recorded in London on June 25, 2007. The bundle is rounded out with a DVD filled with Volta's (admittedly sub par) videos and a CD filled with Volta's (refreshingly above par) remixes. The package-- available in standard, deluxe, and deluxe vinyl editions-- is out in March, but you can pre-oder it now. www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/148867-bjrk-to-issue-volta-related-box-set

Michel Gondry has said that his work with Icelandic musician Bjork has made him a better director. The cult filmmaker told The Guardian that the singer did not care if she looked good or bad in the videos she made to promote her music. Gondry said: "With her it's pure creativity. And sometimes I'm the one to tell her 'You can't show that on MTV, you can't reflect badly on you,' and she says 'I don't care'. "She just thinks the video is an extension of the creativity she puts into her music, and she educated me to be a better director." He added that the job of a music promo director is to find a way to make the video not look like a commercial. Gondry was recently revealed as the new director of Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet. www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a148482/gondry-bjork-improved-my-directing.html

As Iceland's most visible cultural ambassador, Björk isn't taking her home country's current economic free-fall lightly. In an enlightening conversation with Pitchfork's Amy Phillips last October, she talked about her native land's troubles and her own Náttúra campaign. The green-minded objective aims to combat environmentally harmful quick fixes like aluminum smelting plants with more progressive and earth-friendly alternatives in order to pull Iceland out of the muck. It's a bold initiative, and whether Icelanders can think long-term in face of such dire and sudden hardship has yet to be seen. But Björk isn't giving up. Today marks the release of Náttúra–Summer 2008, a documentary that includes interview footage with Björk and other Icelandic cultural figures who support the environmental movement. And you don't even have to leave your seat to watch it; the film debuts on iTunes tomorrow via One Little Indian/E1. All proceeds from the movie will help fund Náttúra. In a press release, the singer stated, "I believe that profits, technological advances and working together with nature can all go hand in hand. None need to be sacrificed at the expense of the others." However naive that may sound, it's hard to fault her for trying here. When Björk isn't in full-on Bono "save the world" mode, she's still making music. Or at least putting together box sets of her previous work. In that spirit, the Volta-themed set Voltaic-- featuring a live DVD, remixes and more-- is due later this month. You can pre-order it now. pitchfork.com/news/34807-bjork-featured-in-environmental-documentary/

Both Björk and Dirty Projectors make beloved (and sometimes polarizing) music on their own terms. A collaboration between the two may not seem completely obvious, but it does seem right. On May 8, AIDS and homelessness charity Housing Works will present a benefit concert with both artists, taking place at the 300-capacity Housing Works Bookstore & Café in downtown New York City. The show-- curated by Pitchfork contributor and Stereogum senior writer Brandon Stosuy-- will feature Björk performing a newly composed suite written by lead Projector David Longstreth and featuring Longstreth along with his band mates Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle. Head over to Stereogum for more info about the one-night-only super-gig. pitchfork.com/news/34933-bjork-dirty-projectors-to-play-together/

We'll pass along the rest of the information soon, but for now we wanted to announce the most relevant details because we're excited (and tired of keeping it a secret): Björk and Dirty Projectors are joining forces for a one-time benefit show Friday, May 8th, at 8PM at Housing Works Bookstore & Café (126 Crosby Street) in Manhattan. Tickets go on sale 4/1 are on sale now. The night's part of Housing Works' "Live From Home" series, and all proceeds go to Housing Works. Stereogum is a proud sponsor. If you're unfamiliar with Housing Works, it's a non-profit that, since 1990, has provided services for homeless men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS. I'm a Housing Works Board Member. I'm also clearly one of the folks who writes the words at Stereogum. I knew Björk enjoyed Dirty Projectors' work and, if you recall, Dirty Projectors covered "Hyperballad" for Stereogum Presents... Enjoyed: A Tribute to Björk's Post where he said: I think what I took from Björk when I was obsessed with her in high school was her way with deconstruction. She writes these classic melodies but breaks them apart so that it's sort of up to you as the listener to put them back together. The song ends up meaning so much more because of the effort you have to give to it. Out of a perverse habit, I tried to do the opposite with this recording: present the song like the unbroken stone it might have been. But I think I probably just arrived at a new deconstruction: Björk's essence remains elusive! With that in mind, I approached the artists and asked them if they'd do a show together at the Housing Works space. What I didn't expect was this: In a brand new collaboration, Björk will perform music composed for her by David Longstreth. The suite, written for five voices, will pair Björk with Longstreth and Projectors' Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle. The band will also perform material from Dirty Projectors' oeuvre, using only voices and one acoustic guitar. There will be two openers, Kurt Weisman chosen by Longstreth and Ólöf Arnalds chosen by Björk. We'll announce said additional information soon. For now, remember, tickets officially go on sale 4/1 at Housing Works' website, but we're giving you guys first go, so head to the site now! After 4/1, physical tickets will be available at the Housing Works bookstore on Crosby Street as well as a couple Brooklyn locations TBA. The venue fits 300 people, so you'll have to be quick on the draw. You can get more details at the previously linked Housing Works site. stereogum.com/archives/live-from-home-bjork-with-dirty-projectors_061182.html

Björk announces a very special DVD/CD/VINYL recording, Voltaic on June 23, 2009, world wide! And we also announce the Voltaic Special now!
Available in five different physical configurations, Voltaic is a lovingly packaged celebration of the past two years of Björk’s Volta activities—her critically praised sixth studio album, which came out in 2007, and the subsequent two-year world tour.
Nonesuch Records will release it in the US. One Little Indian in the UK and Universal for the rest of the world
Voltaic DVD 1 contains filmed highlights from the Volta tour, recorded in Paris and Reykjavik, with performances of songs from Volta as well as tracks from previous albums including Hunter, Joga, Army of Me, and Hyperballad.
Björk’s band on the Volta tour included Mark Bell (LFO) on computers and keyboards and Damian Taylor on keyboards and programming. Drums and percussion were played by Chris Corsano (Sonic Youth, etc.); Jónas Sen played piano, harpsichord, and church organ; and Björk’s all female Icelandic 10-piece brass section rounded out the group. A dynamic, grand live experience, the Volta tour has been acclaimed around the world. As the Guardian (UK) said in its five-star review, “Björk delivers a performance as visually spectacular as it is musically innovative. Fifteen years into her solo career Björk remains the least compromising and most fantastical pop superstar talent.”
Voltaic DVD 2 features all of the Volta music videos, including the “Declare Independence” clip directed by celebrated Oscar winning French director Michel Gondry; the “Wanderlust” video directed by encyclopedia pictura; and the “Earth Intruders” video directed by renowned French animator Michel Ocelot.
Voltaic CD 1 is a selection of songs from the Volta tour recorded live at the legendary Olympic Studios in London, just before Björk’s headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival in 2007. It was recorded in one afternoon, and the whole set was played live and captured in one take before being produced and mixed by Björk.
Voltaic CD 2 features key remixes from Volta, with versions of “Earth Intruders,” “Declare Independence,” “Innocence,” “Wanderlust,” and “Dull Flame of Desire,” by the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Matthew Herbert, Graeme Sinden, Ghostigital, and Modeselektor.

The video for Human Behaviour is nominated for Best Video (That Should Have Won A Moonman) at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
"Björk plays Goldilocks, plants a flag on the moon, gets eaten by a teddy bear, and it still wasn't enough to win in 1994. After six VMA nominations, maybe seventh time is the charm for Bjork
