IS the PHYSICAL bouncing back? It might as we have just received communication from One Little Indian regarding vinyl re-issues. We read it and decided to post it here: "For all the audiophiles out there we are reissuing some classic OLI albums using the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing - Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering. The groove is cut directly in copper metal. Transient response is greatly improved. Stampers are plated directly from the DMM Copper Master, eliminating two of the three plating steps required for lacquers. In short, DMM yields better detail resolution and a lower noise ratio. This is especially good for long play albums, or audiophile material. All albums are remastered direct from the original master tapes and pressed on heavy weight 200g vinyl audiophile discs. Each release is strictly limited, housed in a plastic wallet and individually numbered. Released on 30th June, all titles are listed below and available from OLI webshop: Björk "GLING-GLO" - order here Björk "DEBUT" - order here Björk "POST" - order here Björk "TELEGRAM" - order here Björk "HOMOGENIC" - order here Björk "JOGA" - order here Björk "SELMA SONGS" - order here Björk "VESPERTINE" - order here Björk "GREATEST HITS" - order here Björk "MEDULLA" - order here Björk "DRAWING RESTRAINT 9" - order here Björk "VOLTA" - order here We have a collection of singles box sets from the Sugarcubes. These box sets will be available as eight 7" singles and as a six CD box set containing all of the single recordings between October 1986-October 1989. Order The Sugarcubes 7" box set Order The Sugarcubes CD box set The Sugarcubes "LIFE'S TOO GOOD" - order here The Sugarcubes "HERE TODAY, TOMORROW NEXT WEEK!" - order here The Sugarcubes "STICK AROUND FOR JOY" - order here The Sugarcubes "IT'S IT" - order here The Sugarcubes "GREAT CROSSOVER POTENTIAL" - order here " Revamp the turntable right Now! You up on this Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering yet? According to One Little Indian records, it is truly "the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing." Unlike past record-pressing processes, with Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering, "the groove is cut directly in copper metal. Transient response is greatly improved. Stampers are plated directly from the DMM Copper Master, eliminating two of the three plating steps required for lacquers. In short, DMM yields better detail resolution and a lower noise ratio." Fascinating?
Well, yeah, cuz this new process means better sound on all those vinyl records you kids have been buying these days. And it hopefully means more things like this are about to happen: June 30, One Little Indian will reissue a good chunk of Björk's back catalog both as a solo artist and as a member of the Sugarcubes, all of it remastered from the original master tapes (using Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering, of course), and all of it available on limited edition, hand numbered, 200-gram vinyl.
All of Björk's solo LPs and several of her singles, EPs and other projects will be put through the new process: Gling-Glo (with Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar), Debut, Post, Telegram, Homogenic, Jóga, Selmasongs, Vespertine, Greatest Hits, Medulla, Drawing Restraint 9, and Volta. The Sugarcubes' Life's Too Good, Here Today, Tomorrow, Next Week!, Stick Around for Joy, It's-It, and The Great Crossover Potential are also included. What's more, all of the Sugarcubes' singles from October 1986 through October 1989 have been gathered into nifty new box sets, available now on either eight 7"s or six CDs. Sounds good, right? Real good, I'm told.
When Björk's not doing her part to make things sounds better, she's doing the world a solid with her pals in Sigur Rós at an environmental awareness gig later this month. Note that Björk's also got a new date scheduled coming up fast: a night at Paris' Olympia June 25.

Björk & Sigur Rós Celebrate Nature this coming Saturday in Iceland. "I would like to point out Iceland's uniqueness : Iceland and its pure untouched nature are synonymous. If that is lost our uniqueness is lost. Just as if Paris lost its fashion, New York lost its skyscrapers, Los Angeles its Hollywood. Our politicians must not get away with working against nature. We have to keep them on their toes. The damage could be too great, much greater than the short term profit. The whole nation, in the cities and in the country-side, has awakened. Much has been achieved in the last few years. The invisible nature- lovers have become visible, visible and vocal. People all over the country want to be heard, both in words and deeds. The 21st century has started with vigourous Icelanders from all around the country. the whale museum Húsavík, Blue Lagoon, CCP, Icelandic musicians, Villimey, Vogafjós, Hvíldarklettur, Magic Place Strandir, A lot has happened and we have reached a new point. I hope this concert will encourage thought on what comes next That the Icelander will (keep on rising and) carry on forward with new possibilities With creative thought adjusting to he ever changing mood of the world - and Iceland. in beat with the 21st century in beat with nature in beat with him self." ------------------------------- www.nattura.info

Yeah, that's the one. I sorta annoys me that most people either know her for that incident or her swan dress.
For an introduction to her music I can recommend a few songs: Joga, Bachelorette, All Is Full Of Love, Big Time Sensuality, Hyperballad, Earth Intruders, Hunter.
Have a listen and tell me what you think!

Fantastic atmosphere is gripping Reykjavik for the Náttúra Concert on this coming Saturday. The stage is built in Laugardalur and today the Náttúra concert released a whole scope and range of ringtones made from the sounds of nature in Iceland. The icelandic soundartist Finnbogi Pétursson compiled and cut and recorded these tones. They give a great sense of nature, and of humour. All the profits from the ringtone sale go to a fund to support the website Björk, Sigur Rós and Ölöf Arnalds are playing in aid of. The concert has a great environmental tone and now: ringtones. If you want share in this, you can buy ringtones and have your phone ring in Icelandic where ever in the world by going to www.nattura.info and get directions there how to get them ringtones.

LIVE FROM ICELAND ON SATURDAY, JUNE 28
NEW YORK (June 27, 2008)—Nat Geo Music, the music division of National Geographic Entertainment, will Webcast an open-air Náttúra concert live from Iceland on Saturday, June 28, 2008. Two of the world's most important and visionary musical entities, Björk and Sigur Rós, will headline the free concert.
The event will be available exclusively at worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET (begins at 8 p.m. BST/London or 7 p.m. GMT/Reykjavik).
To be held in a large park near the centre of Reykjavik, all of the performances will be during daylight, with Iceland’s capital city and dramatic rolling scenery providing a perfect backdrop to what is expected to be one of the biggest concerts the country has seen. The Náttúra concert looks to raise awareness of the impact of the growing aluminum smelting activity on Iceland’s natural landscape.
“One of Nat Geo Music’s main goals is to offer artists and experts who care about global culture and the environment an outlet to create awareness for important issues. Spotlighting these amazing artists performing live in a spectacular backdrop allows our worldwide audience to enjoy great music and become aware of Iceland’s environmental concerns and join the conversation,” said David Beal, president of National Geographic Entertainment.

It has now emerged that not only did Bjork do a costume change during the encore break (which is a very first for the Volta tour) she also had a haircut in the form of a fringe!
I have never heard of this! lol...This woman has no limits, hence why I love her.

Tomorrow's Náttúra concert at Reykjavik's Laugardalur Park is an outdoor event aimed at boosting awareness of Icelandic environmental issues (specifically, "the impact of the growing aluminum smelting activity on Iceland's natural landscape," according to a press release). It's being touted as one of the largest concerts in Iceland's history, and it features some of the country's brightest musical stars: Björk, Sigur Rós, and Ölöf Arnalds.
And for a few hours tomorrow, the cause of preserving Iceland's environment will become the world's cause, as the entirety of the Náttúra proceedings will be webcasted live via National Geographic's Nat Geo Music website. The event is set to take place from 7 PM-12 AM local time, or 3-8 PM ET in the U.S. You can also buy ringtones to help support the cause.
For Björk's thoughts about the concert, go here.
After meeting up tomorrow, Björk and nudists of note Sigur Rós will part ways to tackle the rest of their respective summer tour itineraries.
One stop that Björk won't be making as planned: A July 5 appearance at Hertfordshire, England's Wild in the Country Festival. According to NME.com, a statement made on Björk's behalf says that she's pulling out "due to the volatile nature of this event. Bjork is extremely disappointed that this show will now no longer go ahead." Apparently "organisers Geoff Oakes and Vince Power for [event organizers] Renaissance have been unable to secure any staging, sound and lighting for this festival making it impossible for the headline artists to perform and are unable to fulfill their contractual obligations to all of the artists contracted to perform at their event."
Björk's people urge would-be festgoers to seek a refund, and Oakes is quoted as saying that they "hope to be able to offer refunds to as many people as possible."

Náttúra Concert SuccessNáttúra, the largest live music event ever held in Iceland, took place yesterday evening in front of 30,000 people in central Reykjavik. As well attracting 10% of the country's total population, the event was also broadcast live to a global audience via National Geographic's World Music website. Náttúra, the largest live music event ever held in Iceland, took place yesterday evening in front of 30,000 people in central Reykjavik. As well attracting 10% of the country's total population, the event was also broadcast live to a global audience via National Geographic's World Music website. During the headline performance, performed under blazing sunshine in Laugardalur park, Björk protested against the hugely destructive industrial developments (mainly aluminium smelting plants and their associated infrastructure, which have caused the total annihilation of many unique and ecologically important areas such as Kárahnjúkar) that have been already built, with many more planned, in Europe's largest unspoilt wilderness, Iceland. During the encore, referring to the aluminium smelting plants, she repeatedly chanted: "náttúra, náttúra, náttúra, náttúra," ending with "náttúra - don't sell it" to huge cheers from a crowd that ranged from young children to grandparents. Sigur Rós, who recently released the album 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust', performed several songs from the record including the single 'Gobbledigook', which received an especially warm reception as Björk and Ólöf Arnalds joined them on stage for a unique collobaration. About 10% of the total population of Iceland attended the free event, which also saw Ólöf Arnalds and Ghostigital performing on a massive stage near the centre of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. Organiser Einar Örn, Björk's Sugarcubes bandmate who joined her on stage for one song, simply said after the event: "This was a truly momentous evening." It is hoped that the event will inspire and inform a different way of approaching the issue as many believe that Iceland, ranked #1 in the world in a recent UN quality of life survey, can maintain a strong and progressive economy without the intrusion of polluting industrial processes and the sale of ecologically rich land (at reduced prices) to multinational companies. One of the objectives of the concert was also to launch the website www.nattura.info and the now famous Nature RINGtones of Iceland to support the website.

Shortly before the Náttura concert The Reykjavik Grapevine published an interview with Björk and author Andri Magnason. The interview is very enlightening as to the reasons for the concert. We pulled this off nattura.info : "ThE GRAPEVINE: First, tell me a little about how this is all connected: the concert, Andri’s book release and his upcoming film release. Is there more? How did this come together? BjöRk: It was really just a coincidence. But with this, like so much else that has to do with this issue, people are very upset. I’ve never been a part of anything like this before, and I never really thought I would. But there is just so much at stake here. ... Also, I thought I would just do more good that way. But now, there was little slump, so I decided to just raise as much hell as possible. There were still people around who hadn’t given up entirely, and I started talking to them, and that’s when I met Andri. His book was just about to be released in English translation" More can be read at www.nattura.info and at Reykjavik Grapevine.
