Tori Amos Commends Independent Recording Artist for Benefiting Abuse Victims
Jennifer Grassman, recording artist, was recently commended by multi-platinum recording artist Tori Amos for her work organizing the city’s first benefit concert for The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (www.RAINN.org).
“I commend Jennifer on the great work she is doing to help victims of sexual assault,” says Tori Amos, recording artist and founder of RAINN, speaking of Grassman’s passion to assist those affected by this violent crime, especially young adults.
The fundraising concert, called RAINN Over Houston, will take place in Houston in June of 2009, almost exactly 15 years after Amos co-founded RAINN in June of 1994.
Grassman, a resident of Spring and child abuse survivor, is hosting RAINN Over Houston in order to raise donations to help abuse victims and to educate the public on how to reduce their risk of assault. “Tori Amos has long been an inspiration for me,” stated Grassman, “not only because of her musical talent, but because of her passion, individuality, and spiritual strength. I was aware of her music before I became aware of her personal life and work. Her relation to RAINN resolved my respect and admiration.”
Every two minutes someone in the United States is sexually assaulted and 60% of those cases go unreported to the police, according to RAINN, the country’s largest anti-sexual assault organization. The Houston Area Women’s Center stated that there were 20,070 instances of domestic violence, six of which resulted in death, in Houston in the year 2006. There were also 854 reported rapes in 2006, according to The Houston Police Department in January of 2007.
The financial goal of RAINN Over Houston is to raise at least $100,000 with 100% of net proceeds to be donated to RAINN. Grassman is also dedicating her third album to the organization and contributing a portion of the sale proceeds to their cause.

TORI ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVERSAL REPUBLIC RECORDS Posted December 02, 2008
Tori has teamed up with Universal Republic Records in a joint venture agreement to release a new studio album late spring of next year. Here is a copy of the press release sent out earlier today which includes all the details…
NEW ALBUM ACCOMPANIED BY GROUNDBREAKING NEW VISUAL COMPONENT DUE IN SPRING/SUMMER OF ‘09
(New York, NY) Innovative; influential; poetic; bombastic - indefinable multiple Grammy nominee, Tori Amos, has teamed up with Universal Republic Records, it was announced today by Monte Lipman, Co-President and COO of Universal Republic Records. “We’re honored to welcome Tori Amos into the Universal Republic family,” stated Mr. Lipman. “It was Doug Morris (Chairman & CEO, Universal Music) who originally signed Ms. Amos to her first recording deal, and we’re excited that they will be able to continue their association via Universal Republic. Tori has always exemplified the truest spirit of the independent artist, blazing a path for nearly two decades with a legacy of incomparable conceptual breakthroughs; as singer/songwriter; as social commentator; and as one of our most thought provoking visual performers. We’re thrilled to be in a position to help facilitate the next chapter of her amazing career.”
In a unique venture in keeping with Ms. Amos’ and Universal Republic’s unconventional approach to the artist/record company relationship, the two powerhouses have joined forces to jointly navigate Ms. Amos next release, as well as correlate other ventures in tandem with Ms. Amos’ prolific creative output. Her upcoming Universal Republic debut (her tenth studio album), is currently scheduled for a late spring/early summer 2009 unveiling. Every track on the album will be accompanied by a corresponding ‘visualette,’ featuring footage that has been captured over the past year. Shot in HD and Super 8, the visualettes will incorporate a documentary style. “Tori is very much looking forward to a fulfilling creative relationship with Monte Lipman and the great team he has assembled at Universal Republic,” stated John Witherspoon, Amos’ manager, “The intricate development of this unique Audio Visual component to Tori’s musical presentation, which she has been crafting through her own Galactic Media company, is indicative of the outlier creative and strategic opportunities both Tori and Universal Republic hope to build upon in this extraordinary relationship.”
Ms. Amos’ most recent album, American Doll Posse, which has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as ‘her best album in years,’ was released in 2007 to a chorus of rave reviews. The captivating album, like many of her previous efforts, was tethered to a strong conceptual theme, with Ms. Amos inhabiting multiple archetypal female personae, a testament to her willingness to continue to challenge the thematic landscape and emotional currency of the female singer/songwriter.
With more than 12 million albums sold, and commanding a significant and uniquely loyal audience from the rock, pop, alternative, and under-the-radar regions of the music world, Ms. Amos has influenced a new generation of artists in a myriad of platforms. Most recently, she was the catalyst for a one-of-a-kind anthology chronicling her career, the 500 page Graphic Novel, Comic Book Tattoo, featuring stunning visual interpretations of her songs by more than 80 artists, (including an introduction by friend and creative influence artist Neil Gaiman, creator of the Sandman series).
Regarded as one of the most compelling and emotionally fearless live artists in music today, her American Doll Posse World Tour, launched in the summer of 2007, saw her soar with her first full-fledged rock band in nearly a decade. Media platforms such as the BBC lauded both her live show and album as ‘returning Tori Amos back to the forefront of a genre she defined...still pushing her own boundaries.’
Her genre-shattering breakthrough in the early 1990s, including 1991’s ‘Me And A Gun’ EP, and 1992’s masterwork, Little Earthquakes, single-handedly revived the piano-and-singer motif in rock music. Little Earthquakes went on to sell more than 3 million albums worldwide, with subsequent Grammy nominated albums such as Under The Pink (1994), 1996’s Boys For Pele, 2001’s Strange Little Girls, and 2002’s Scarlet’s Walk continuing to explore broader themes.
Known for her extraordinary repertoire, groundbreaking videos and astounding visual transformations, an assortment of compilations have been intermittently released the past few years, including, A Piano: The Collection, a Rhino Records 5 Box set of classics, rarities, and never-before-released gems adroitly re-capping her career, a DVD compilation of signature Amos videos, Fade To Red in 2006, and 2008’s Live At Montreaux, a DVD release featuring the singer/songwriter’s earliest performances at the festival in 1991/1992. In conjunction with her American Doll Posse Tour, Ms. Amos oversaw the release of the web-compatible Legs And Boots series, a complete collection of shows available for downloading, culled from her North American live trek.
Nominated for multiple awards, including ten Grammy’s, Ms. Amos has been working on a musical for London’s British National Theatre called The Light Princess tentatively scheduled to debut in 2010.

I don't doubt it! God, I wish I got into her sooner. I would have loved to have seen her in concert for American Doll Posse, supposedly she did an awesome performance as pip last year here in Chicago and I missed it, dammit! Why did I wait until now to listen to this brilliant woman!

Luckily enough, I seen her as Pip at the show I went to.

Tori Amos Inks New Deal, Eyes Spring/Summer Release "I have a game plan," Tori Amos told Spinner after her deal with Epic Records, which yielded three studio albums, ended earlier this year. "It's about partnering now, instead of being a horse in a stable. Not that that's a negative thing, but then you're totally dependent on who's in charge. If they leave -- and I've been under contract now for over 22 years -- then you might be stuck with somebody who doesn't feed their horses." And Amos, no doubt, is hungry. To that end, the singer-songwriter just inked a joint venture deal with Universal Republic Records, and has set a late spring/early summer release date for her tenth album -- the follow-up to 2007's 'American Doll Posse.' The new effort will feature a video component corresponding to each song, with footage shot over the past year. "There are 360 deals going on -- that's not my interest," Amos said. "I don't want to do that because these are my children, my songs. And to me, you're just handing over your art. As far as partnering though, it's very different. That means that you're in a venture together. I've learned that it's easy to throw your hands up and throw all your toys out of the crib, and just say 'I ain't playing.' But things are changing and there are real breaks in the road. If you can see them coming, you can say, 'Alright, I'm going to be more of a designer in my life.' It's upon us now in the music industry, if you're out of a deal, you can chart your own course, but you have to choose wisely. And I have to choose based on what I know will inspire me to get up in the morning and still play my instrument." Meanwhile, as for the long-standing rumor that Amos is done with world tours, she sheds a little bit of light. "Well, I said that when I was at a point when I was beginning my [label] battle," Amos explained. "And you can say things in the heat of the moment. That tour ['American Doll Posse'] was a six month-long one. It's a long time, and [daughter] Tash was out of school at the time -- yes, with a teacher. That was hard on her. Those kinds of tours I can't do while she's at this stage. Once she's out of the stage, I don't know where I'll be -- age-wise, health-wise --you just don't know. So, I can see myself playing dates, but it would be on a much shorter level. During summer or during breaks that aren't so long, because we take her with us. We have to -- we're a family." www.spinner.com/2008/12/04/tori-amos-inks-new-deal-eyeing-spring-summer-release/

Tori Amos to Headline Universal Republic Showcase at South by Southwest Music Conference on March 19, 2009
New CD, ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN, Due Spring 2009 NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--There will be thousands of artists and tens of thousands of music fans gathering at over 60 venues for this year’s South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX, but all eyes will be on groundbreaking star Tori Amos, headlining one of the most anticipated events in the conference’s two decade-plus history, on Thursday, March 19, at historic Austin club, La Zona Rosa. The Grammy nominated singer/songwriter is headlining a star-studded Universal Republic Records showcase at the popular venue, sure to be looked on as one of the must-see events of the four day festival. Tori will be performing new songs from her upcoming Universal Republic debut album, ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN, scheduled to hit stores and the digital domain this spring, as well as other classics from her influential repertoire. Tori’s recent signing with Universal Republic is in keeping with the inventive star’s unconventional approach to the artist/record company relationship. Universal Republic will distribute Tori’s new album, as well as correlate other ventures in tandem with Tori’s prolific creative output. ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN, her tenth studio album, is another innovative chapter in the artist’s trailblazing story. Every track on the album will be accompanied by a corresponding 'visualette,' featuring footage that has been captured over the past year. Shot in HD and Super 8, the visualettes will incorporate a documentary style. Tori’s most recent album, AMERICAN DOLL POSSE, which has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as 'her best album in years,' was released in 2007 to a chorus of rave reviews. I'm nothing but a repressed, neurotic girl who is abnormally attracted to sin, and so abnormally afraid of it. The original titles to Under The Pink and FTCGH annoyed me in the same way this one does - God With a Capital and Confessionins of a Choirgirl --> I hope this one gets changed on truncated aswell.

Tori Amos is 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin.' You don't say? This from a minister's daughter who's sung about masturbating in her room while her father conducts a Bible study downstairs ('Icicle') and allowed a pig to suckle her breast for her 'Boys for Pele' album art. While it may be stating the obvious, 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin' is the title of Amos' new album -- and also a 'Guys and Dolls' reference -- due this spring. The effort is the singer-songwriter's first with Universal Republic Records, and the follow-up to 2007's 'American Doll Posse.' Each song on 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin' will be accompanied by a corresponding "visualette," with footage shot over the past year. Amos heads to Austin in March for a performance at SXSW, on Thursday, March 19, at La Zona Rosa, where she'll be debuting some of the new tunes. Leave the Bibles at home. www.spinner.com/2009/02/18/tori-amos-gets-sinful-on-new-album/

I guess it's the real deal. This is fake. Her face is photoshopped onto that body. It's been debunked by undented.com anyway. Perez Hilton posted that and I was like, "Can't you see that is soooo photoshopped, you fuck? Ahhh." Anyway, I have a feeling this new album is gonna be sorta underwhelming. I'm getting to the point where I think Tori is trying too hard to come out with an album every 2 years and NOT an album full of quality material. When it comes out, I'm sure I'll love it. And then after a month I'll realize that it is 3/4 filler. American Doll Posse and everything Scarlet's Walk and prior are excluded from the 3/4 filler statement. Well, actually, I guess that only leaves The Beekeeper as a proper album of filler (which it is!). In any case, I'd be surprised if she can "wow" me again so soon.

^ That's the same press release I posted a few posts up. Her PR people are kind of sucking - - That is from an email sent out tonight, but the press release had made the rounds several days ago. I think showcasing @ SxSW is smart and refreshing; but, this press release from HER people is even a slap (rightly) to her own work Tori's most recent album, AMERICAN DOLL POSSE, which has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as 'her best album in years,' . All several websites are a mess - For an artist w/such a notoriously loyal fan base it all just comes off as sloppy IMO.

Austin radio station KGSR will be celebrating SXSW with a series of live broadcasts and in-studio guests during the conference later this month. While they will not broadcast Tori’s concert at La Zona Rosa (though we have our collective fingers crossed for NPR’s SXSW coverage considering the precedent they set webcasting R.E.M.‘s SXSW appearance last year), Tori will be visiting their studios on Friday, March 20th at Noon local time to perform during “Whattya Want for Lunch” in their Music Lounge. Like any respectable radio station, KGSR streams their signal online so everyone should be able to listen in and the station archives many broadcasts as well so perhaps Tori’s appearance will be archived as well. www.undented.com/
