PJ Harvey, Tenacious D Play QOTSA Benefit Show Underneath all the tough talk, Queens of the Stone Age are decent guys. This Saturday, August 16, the band will host a benefit concert celebrating the life of Eleven's Natasha Shneider. Shneider, who had toured with Queens of the Stone in the past, died of cancer earlier this summer. Proceeds from the show will help pay Shneider's outstanding medical bills. The celebration concert takes place at Los Angeles' Henry Fonda Theater. Joining Queens of the Stone Age to "help them perform songs from the limits of the QOTSA catalog and beyond" (according to the band's website) will be PJ Harvey, Jack Black and Kyle Gass (aka Tenacious D), Alain Johannes (Shneider's husband and bandmate in Eleven), Matt Cameron (ex-Soundgarden/current Pearl Jam drummer), Brody Dalle (Homme's wife and former frontwoman for the Distillers), Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal), Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), and Chris Goss. Had no idea Distillers were broken up

Excutive producer of Nissan Live sets on Yahoo quotes PJ on his blog: ycorpblog.com/2008/09/08/best-job-in-the-world/ "PJ Harvey confiding in me how the Q&A was the weirdest thing she’s ever done in her life;" Given her well known aversion to fans, I wonder if they had to talk her into it.

More info: PJ Harvey will release her new album -- a collaboration with John Parish -- on March 30. The effort, titled 'A Woman a Man Walked By' is Harvey's first full album with Parish since 1996's 'Dance Hall at Louse Point.' 'A Woman' was mixed by longtime Harvey collaborator Flood, who most recently gave Harvey a hand on her last album, 2007's piano-based 'White Chalk.' That effort, a largely overcast affair, garnered the singer-songwriter a bevy polarized reviews. "I find the record quite uplifting and quite tender, and beautiful and expressive of many different emotions," she told Spinner. "Some people find it very difficult and upsetting. It's probably, musically, one of the most beautiful records I've made, and that's offset by lyrics that are doing a very different thing. I like that sort of tension that's there." Meanwhile, Harvey recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of the release of her debut, 'Dry,' which catapulted the then 22-year-old Dorset, England native into the indie rock limelight. "It was an extremely exciting time for me," she told Spinner. "I never even dreamed that I would have the chance to make a record, let alone that it would be so anticipated and received so well. It was just an astonishing time and quite wonderful. I did feel a little like the rabbit in the headlights -- I wasn't quite sure what was happening. But I was willing to go along with it." www.spinner.com/2008/12/10/pj-harvey-reveals-new-album-details/

Thanks for the info, Mr. Andy. I have to admit, I've not heard all of White Chalk, but I do need to. I am a fan of Flood's work though. So I'm sure this and A Woman A Man Walked By will be cool. I still have a hard time wrapping myself around some of her material, but I do admit that I like her MUCH more than I did a few years ago.
I remember the first time I saw the video for Down By The Water on Beavis & Butthead around when that album came out. I found her weird, but at the same time, interesting. Then, i remember hearing Naked Cousin that they wound up using for the second Crow soundtrack... that song's pretty freakin' awesome, I must say. This of course was all well over 10 years ago, and I discovered various songs by her along the way that I liked. I think it was a few years ago that I really sat down and gave her a solid chance. I remember hearing 4-Track Demos and Dry about 11 years ago, and really disliked them. It's amazing how your tastes can change over time when it comes to music.

^ No problem! My advice would probably be (if you haven't heard it already) invest in her 'Is This Desire?' record. This is the record that got me completely hooked. Each song tells an amazing story, that can be very disturbing and beautiful at the same time. Also, it is a record that she really experimented with electronics, synths and atmospherics. If this record doesn't work, I don't know what will! lol

Id recommend Stories.. if all else fails. Its her most polished work but still oozes quality in my opinion.

I agree. I was going to recommend that first but then decided against it. I don't know why most people have the misconception that a polished work is one without emotions. In most cases, the records I listen to, it is quite the opposite.

Particular favourites include: Big Exit, Beautiful Feeling, Good Fortune, One Line This Mess We're In (one of the best duets EVER!), Kamikaze, This Is Love, We'll Float...

In hindsight I have to agree with you there - I regretted posting that last comment as its just such a complete album if ya catch my drift.. I nearly wrote just all the songs down ...
