Just watched my 7year itch dvd again. I think it was really brave of the Banshees to perform obscure b-sides that I'd almost forgot about, like Lullaby and I Could Be Again. And Land's End sounded really good live, and Night Shift especially. They didn't just come out and perform a greatest hits set, which was cool (though they did Happy House, Christine and Cities in Dust.) The best thing would be if they started writing together again...and come out with some new product..but I doubt that's on the cards. Shame - lyrically there isn't a woman around to touch Siouxsie. She was so effortlessly macabre.

Thought I'd rate the Banshees albums for beginners.
1. Tinderbox 2. A Kiss In The Dreamhouse 3. Peepshow 4. Kaleidoscope 5. Hyaena (unfairly maligned) 6. Nocturne (live double album..tres gothic) 7. The Scream 8. Superstition 9. Juju 10. Join Hands
Avoid - The Rapture - their last album. Dull!

She was and is an artist that has been underrated by the press for 20 years.

I know - what's with that? She was smart, original, iconic and bloody entertaining in interviews etc. They got labelled goth when it was extremely unfashionable (now with Marilyn Manson etc it's cool) and that did for them, I'm afraid.

The main problem was she and the Banshees started when alternative was just starting in the early 80's. That and MTV and it's pop videos revolution was just starting. Adam and the Ants stole the indian costumes and the rest was history.

One thing I love is that interview where she talks about how Godzilla turns her on... in fact... I've come to belive she is a sci fi/fantasy fan... I haven't been able to get my hands on the song"Captain Scarlet" but wasn't that a science fiction show made using marionettes?
And then her fasination with Godzilla....
I wonder if she likes/loves Doctor Who, a really great show.... hee hee...
Also, what's really funny, is that a majority of the people in my school don't have a damn clue who Siouxsie and the Banshees are... It makes me want to laugh... a lot of the kids in my school think they know so much about music, yet they don't look at the past at all. I'm just starting to take a good look at music that had been the predecessors of things that I like now. One thing that turned me on to Siouxsie and the Banshees was the vH1 Garabage Behind the music... I belive they played a bit of Spellbound and Drop Dead/Celebration whilst runing interviews of Shirley... Then I got hold of Spellbound. I fell in love with them after hearing that song. And I had $20 bucks lying about... So I went out to the mall one day, went to Borders, browsed through their music section, and I found Siouxsie and the Banshees' Once Upon a Time: The Singles... that was 18 bucks... and an 18 bucks very well spent.... Since then, I had hooked a friend of mine on them as well... and since she is one of my closest friends, I gave her my CD... that's also due to me not really having a CD player, just my computer and nothing more... except a piece of shit CD player that has no back and sucks the life straight out of my batteries. So that really doesn't count... especially since I threw it across the room once because it was being stupid... and it's ugly... and it's evil... and it deserved to be died...
Hee hee.... I talk way too much after eating a large meal... I need to go take a nap to get me to behave...

Get "Twice Upon a Time" next, if you don't have it already. An excellent compilation. Covers the latter half of their career.

I do plan on getting that. But one thing I'm really aiming to get is a cd by the 5.6.7.8's.... I really need to get my hands on one. And they aren't easy to come by in the local stores... so if I can figure out their little online store, I'll order from the 5.6.7.8's site... (what's so hard is the language barrier and all the rules! I might just go the amazon.com route...)

hmm... Black Sun.... I have a song by Siouxsie and the Banshees called Black Sun... was that a cover of someone else's song, or just a rarely heard of B-side?
It bothers me that i can't find much of any info on the song... and I've tried searching for the lyrics and the guitar part... meep...

I was bored, couldn't sleep, was looking for the lyrics to the whole price of blood, came up with this site SIOUX: "Yeah Carcass -- it's about a butcher's assistant who can't get girls and so he falls in love with a lump of meat on the slab and so that he can be like the object of his affection -- he cuts off his arms and legs."
Ah hold on! I say (thinking I've deduced a flaw in their logic), How can he cut off ALL his arms and legs -- it would be really difficult for him to cut off his last arm -- wouldn't it ?
"Not at all", comes the reply "he just leans his shoulder on the Bacon Slicer!" ;D
