STUDIO DIARY #10 (June 9 - June 15, 2000)
Friday 9th of June
Well most importantly......it's my darling daddy's birthday today. I had to set my alarm to 7:30 am this morning so that I could wish him well (scottish time) on the telephone.
I was of course utterly exhausted due to the fact that we had been working in the studio until 3 am the night before so I wasn't particularly communicative but at least I managed to get my shit together and check in!!!!
We wrote a GREAT new song yesterday........one that we want to listen to over and over and over again..........a very good sign............ and so we are all totally psyched!!!!! Maybe we won't take 10 years to record this new record afterall!
Hey....did you go out and get the new Sleater-Kinney cd yet? You should.
Saturday 10th of June
I watched this truly disturbing news piece on "Body Dysmorphia" the other day. A severe condition that causes the sufferer to negatively focus in on one particular area of his/her body that he/she believes to be imperfect to such an extent that it has a devastating effect on his/her self-esteem. The dysmorphia can roar so alarmingly out of control that the sufferer is unable to integrate comfortably with others, can often experience severe depression and/or harbour suicidal tendencies.
It was just the saddest thing I've seen on TV in a long time. All these lost and desperate people believing that they have to be picture-perfect........... endlessly comparing themselves to the tired and hackneyed images of so called perfection that the media is forever peddling. If only we could go back in time when women were allowed to look like women...............all flesh and tummy.................... and men weren't required to sport bodies sculpted out of steel.
Sunday 11th
Day off
Monday 12th
So I was discussing the whole body dismorphia thing with Butch today and he told me this hilarious story about a guy who shared a dorm with him and Steve at University. This guy was a med student who was completely and utterly CRAZY. He would set up mirrors around his room in order to facilitate the ease with which he could perform all kinds of radical surgeries on his own body. This bizarre practice was to culminate in a botched attempt to remove his own gall-bladder!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently he was actually very close to successfully removing the aforementioned organ but the pain proved to be too overwhelming and he had to succumb to calling 911.
Can you BELIEVE that?!?!?!?! What a bloody idiot.
Tuesday 13th
We're working like little demons today. I love it! Oh please let this industrious streak continue. I want to get home for Christmas!!
I also booked a three week holiday today (I leave this coming Sunday) so I'm super excited about that. Time for a break methinks. I need some sunshine and good food and some time to just sit and do nothing.
Listened to the new Sinead O'Connor cd today and felt mildly disappointed. It's not that it doesn't have its moments.....it most certainly does (her voice and lyrics are sublime as always) but there's something about it that doesn't quite slay me. Maybe it's just one of these records I'll have to listen to a couple more times before I fall head over heels in love with it. I hope so. I've been so looking forward to this record for a long time now.
Wednesday 14th
I have been an unbearable ASSHOLE today. In my defence I'm brutally premenstrual but that's still no excuse. The band should just shoot me and put us all out of our misery.
Thursday 15th
I'm getting so tired of all this internet ballyhoo. I don't want to hear another bloody word about napster and MP3's and dot com commerce etc etc. Suffice to say:
A) That clown from Napster better start watching his back.
B) In less than 5 years from now the largest companies in the real world will have control over the largest internet companies in the cyber world. So duh.......... what's all the fuss about?
The capitalistic system rapes mankind.
So what's new?
