STUDIO DIARY #4 (April 28 - May 4, 2000)
Friday 28th
This morning we all trooped over to Steve's house to celebrate his baby daughter's Naming day. The rabbi blessed little Ruby as we all looked on proudly, grinning from ear to ear like idiots. We collectively decided right there and then to try to work harder at being smarter, wittier and more compassionate people so that Ruby won't grow up thinking we're all complete ASSHOLES.
Mazel tov!!!!!!!!
Saturday 29th.
We have taken the weekend off so no studio today.
I spent the day in bed catching up on my lost sleep of the week and all the episodes of "The Sopranos" that I missed while I was at home in Scotland. It was pure unabated BLISS. I have this HUGE thing for James Gandolfini. He makes me super agitated if you know what I mean!
OOOOooh.............. I LOVE days in bed. Sitting propped up by pillows and surrounded by books and magazines and popcorn and chocolate!!!!!!!!!
Sunday 30th.
Day off.
Monday 1st of May.
Steve's mum Judy lost her long and courageous battle with cancer over the weekend. She was truly a remarkable woman and will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and love are with her family.
'The Ship'
I am standing upon that foreshore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails in the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There ! She's gone !" "Gone where ?" "Gone from my sight, that's all." She is just as large in mast and spar and hull as ever she was when she left my side; just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says, "There! She's gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!" And that is dying.
- Victor Hugo, from Toilers of the Sea.
Tuesday 2nd of May.
We flew to Washington DC for Judy's funeral.
Wednesday 3rd of May.
Flew back from DC.
Thursday 4th of May.
We're all feeling weird today as is to be expected. This week has been a washout in terms of recording. Hopefully we'll get back into the swing of things before too long.
Had a long and painful workout this morning which I have to confess made me feel much better but I would have preferred to have written a song instead.
