Guys,
I've seen pieces of some of your videos and I'm curious, especially with regard to "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Push It", of who comes up with the ideas for the videos. They seem very surreal. I've tried to some up with an explanation myself, but I'd be interested to know what the creator(s) were thinking when it was made. Also, what is "Push It" about?
Thanks
- M
Dear M,
Thank you for your comments about our videos. We are delighted that you appreciate them, as we take much care over making them both for ourselves and our fans alike. We are very particular about the directors we choose to work with but then once the choice has been made we like to give them as much free rein as possible. That said.....we partake in lengthy discussions previous to the shoot about what we want from the video and what we will and will not do on screen etc. As for the meaning behind "Push it"? Well it deals with many things and the song runs along many different levels all at once. On one hand it is a song about ambition and the determination it takes to achieve goals and dreams and aspirations. On the other hand it is about love and domesticity and works as a simple love song. And on another level.....the song deals with the difficulty in trying to marry the two aforementioned sides of the coin and the contradictory sides of ones nature. A kind of a split personality type of thing. Hope that helps!
All the best

Hallo garbage. My name is Gabriele Marchetti, I'm italian, I'm 24 years old, I have just finished my studies in chemical engineering, and Version 2.0 is one of the best records I have ever heard. This morning I've had a chance to visit your internet site and immediately registered as official fan. I would like you to answer one very simple question: How can I find out about the history of the band (previous records-if any, previous experiences of the band members, and so on)? Please let me know. Thankyou
-- Gabriele
Gabriele,
Shirley played in Goodbye Mr. Mckenzie, and Anglefish. I played in Spooner, and Firetown with Duke and Steve. All of the above bands have released albums but they may be hard to find. You can probably find some of this info in our website bio. We update our website every week, and we are working on an official discography. You can also find more information in some of the unofficial websites!
Good luck surfing,
Butch
Hi Gabriele,
We love Italy! We played in Correggio this summer, and the people were fabulous- even though it was during the World Cup! And the food was unbelievable! Your "very simple question" is actually very complicated- please look for the the band biography elsewhere on this site. The short answer to your question is that we all had been in unsuccesful bands until we were lucky enough to get the right combination of people together - which is Garbage. See you next year in Italy, I hope,
Steve

My daughter told me about you guys a number of months after your first album came out. For some reason the music didnt grab me. Then my daughter and I saw you with the Smashing Pumpkins in Maryland and I was hooked. What amazes me more is this second album is better than the first, which I thought was fantastic. I listen to the new CD everyday. Looking forward to your next CD. Hope you tour near here soon. Do you love writing, recording music and touring? It sounds like it.

John...
Thanx for writing. The tour is currently on the west coast...but we will be making our way to the east coast in November, so I hope you can make one of the shows. We are enjoying the tour so far, and we will be on the road thru 1999. We have plans to record a 3rd album, as well as scoring a film soundtrack, so we will be busy for quite a while!
Butch
John,
What I like about your letter is that it sounds like it took awhile for the music to grow on you. That's how I've always found my favorite music. We love all of those things - it's a dream come true. Your daughter has good taste..

Garbage-
I recently purchased the game Gran Turismo for the Sony playstation. And I have to say I really like the song you do on there. I was wondering what song that is and if it is available on cd? Thanks,
Justin Fegers
Justin,
The song is As Heaven Is Wide from the first Garbage album (the one with the pink cover). We also have a song from our new album Version 2.0 coming out on a new playstation game for christmas. We are totally into computer games and think our music works well with the visuals. Thanx for writing!
Butch
Justin-
That's Heaven Is Wide from our first album.
