Road Report 12 For '99
Auckland, NZ.
So we leave London, feeling utterly exhausted from our video shoot (For the new BOND movie) and fly for 25 hours around the globe. We finally arrive at Auckland airport in relatively good spirits, relieved that such an ordeal is behind us.
Unfortunately we are hit horribly by jet lag and so it is with heavy hearts and tired bodies that we hit the stage in Auckland! But LO and BEHOLD.........the audience are unbelievably enthusiastic and we are all suddenly grinning from ear to ear and we realise that the trip was well worth our while!!!!!!!
Get off stage and towel down only to be besieged by our record company who present us with a platinum disc!!!!!
Yahooooooo.........cocktails all around.
Next stop...........Brisbane, Australia for the Livid Music Festival.
Bond Video
So my little monsters..........what can I tell you?!?!?!
I am sitting on yet another plane......this time on my way from Auckland, New Zealand to Brisbane, Australia and I thought I'd drop you all a quick wee note to let you know what's going on!!!!!
So we are here "down under" opening up for Alanis Morissette alongside another local band called Stellar.
We just flew in from London where we were making a video to accompany our soon to be released theme song for the new Bond movie "The World is not Enough".
It's all pretty exciting because we worked with a great German director called Philipp Stoelzl who previously made that wonderful "Du Hast" video for Rammstein.
He has quite literally made a mini Bond Movie for us, starring ME ME ME and the ladyboys!!!!!! It looks totally wicked...........like a mix between Blade Runner, 2001 and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
(Ha ha.....do they *$%K. At least that certainly has not been my experience!) So back to the video........................I play an android sent into the wo rld to destroy Evil and (tragically) myself in the process.
Kind of a Kamakzi Warrior in a "Noah's Ark" scenario. (You remember that story don't you?)
Anyway........I also got to drive the new BMW Z8 during the shoot (even though I can't drive which raised a few hairs on the back of the BMW rep!) which is the very vehicle that JAMES BOND himself drives in the movie! It felt so SEXY!!!!!
Ha haha........
Oh god.....I'd better shut up. I think I am delirious from the 6am wake-up call that I had to abide by this morning. All for the sake of catching a flight.
See the suffering I endure just to be by your sides?!?!?!
Damn.........every now and then I wish you cats would come to us. We could set up a stage somewhere for 18 months......somewhere warm, sunny and glamourous.....and you garbagezoners could travel the oceans to attend our concerts. What d'ya say?!?!?!
Do we have ourselves a deal?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Ok........I'm siging off here. Time to fasten my seat belt and place my seat in an upright position. Looking forward to seeing all our Aussie fans down in the front rows over the course of the next few weeks.......and then of course we head to the USA for our final tour leg on "Version 2.0"!!!! See you all then ok?!?!?!?!

So we flew out at an ungodly hour in the morning to play the Livid Festival in Brisbane..........which turned out to be a pretty good laugh. We had to do some interviews when we arrived on the site so we missed out on seeing a lot of the bands we had been interested in seeing although I did get to snogg a journalist on live TV which is the biggest thrill I have had in weeks. Luckily the crowd were incredible that day and we had a blast on stage (thank you to all the fans)..................and then The Offspring closed the night with a roaring set which included a drunken drum "Jam" with our very own Butch Vig!!!!!!
Good Lord....whatever next?!?!?!?!
Flew out of Brisbane the following morning to play our own headline show in Melbourne. Stayed at an extremely fancy hotel and ordered outrageous amounts of room service at all hours of the day and night!
(Flex that muscle while you can.....before you know it, you'll be back at the YMCA!!!!!)
We all got a wee bit toasty before we took the stage that night and so consequ ently played an EXTREMELY loose set.....but had a complete HOOT doing so!!!!!! Love to all of you who joined us.
Am currently reading a great new book called "A widow for one Year" by John Irving and listening over and over to the latest Moby cd.
Just got back to the hotel after opening up for Alanis in Perth. Lots of darling young girls down the front in cute little dresses and fairy costumes and such!
Bizarre but true.
Alanis came by for a wee while before the show and we chatted intently about the pros and cons of therapy. (I am currently obssessed with the notion of trying it out and I reckoned Alanis would probably know of a good therapist! I was of course perfectly right.....she does!!)
Had a totally fun show tonight........my body was in tune with my head and I didn't need to think.........just sang and moved with the flow.

Sydney, NSW
So once again.....a heinously early flight to catch from Melbourne to Perth. Damn we are in ghastly moods. There is NOTHING more dehumanizing than a 6am lobby call.
The good news is that we have a night off once we arrive in Perth so we head out for some fantastic chinese food.
Horrifically, I experienced a mild allergic reaction to the scallops I was guzzling and had to run in my bare feet at the rate of naughts to the bathroom where I collapsed in a heap on the floor, convinced of imminent death.
As usual....my life threatening crisis passed. Thank god for that!!!!!
Wake up the following morning and meet the boys down in the lobby to go visit some radio stations. Not one of the most thrilling parts of our day but something we feel we should do nevertheless so that our Aussie fans can at least get to hear our voices and know for REAL that we have made it to their side of the globe!!!!!
Arrive at the venue early and do a stiff 50 minutes on my treadmill. Feel utterly glorious afterwards and consequently have a killer show!!!! Yahooooo.....
Next day we are due to fly out to Adelaide in the afternoon so I take the morning to go in search of a new suitcase!!!! (Such are the trials and tribulations of a modern pop diva!)
My trusty old SAMSONITE is falling to pieces and I am in DIRE need of a new one. Sadly I can't find the model I am looking for but I do run into loads of people who had been in attendance at the show the night before!!!! What a laugh that was. Busting the moves on girls in the street wearing our T-shirts and hearing them scream in delight when they realised who the crazy red-head was who kept shouting and pointing at them!!!!
HA ha ha.........
Arrive late in Adelaide and head straight for my bed.
Sleep Sleep Sleep
Have a hard time in Adelaide. The audience seem a little confused as to who we are and are extemely slow to react.
We play ok though but we get frustrated by the amount of folk who refuse to do anything other than sit in their seats and pick their noses. Jeez....why don't they stay home to do that?!?!?!?!
Ha ha ha...........
SO it's Saturday and it's Melbourne and hip hip hooray.....we return to Melbourne. Hey wait a minute? Haven't we just been here?!?!?!?!?!?!? Bumped into LIT at Hey Hey it's Saturday where we are recording a live version of "When I grow up" and they seemed very nice. I guess the proof will be in the pudding when we team up with them for our headline tour of the States in the fall. Fingers crossed!
As long as they bring me twelve long stemmed roses each and every day, there shouldn't be a problem.
We chose to visit the Healsville Sanctuary the following afternoon and got to laugh uproariously at Kangaroos, Koalas, Dingos and Wombats! It was pouring with rain but none of us seemed to mind even though we all had to wear those silly plastic ponchos to stop ourselves from being soaked to the skin. Got on the plane to Sydney and giggled with the crew about the ludicrous nature of our existence.
Finished "The Black Dahlia" by James Ellroy. A truly brilliant if deeply disturbing book. Highly recommended if you have a strong stomach and like to be creeped out.
Arrived in Sydney and went out to eat a fancy dinner with the record company. Suddenly felt deadly tired and had to leave early. Returned to the hotel and took a long hot bath whilst drinking hot chocolate until my head felt like a candy bar.
Slept the sleep of the dead!
Woke up early to watch the first cut of our new video of THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.....our theme song for the new BOND movie!
It looks incredible.......like a mini BOND movie itself and I am delighted with it!!!!!!
YAHOOOOoooooooooo
Play the new SYDNEY SUPERDOME to a fabulously enthusiastic crowd and feel like exploding with relief and happiness all at once. Luckily I do neither and manage to complete the entire set without further ado.
Thank you to all the fans down there in the front few rows. You made it happen tonight for a feisty red haired pessimist from Scotland!!!!!!!
All for now.
