...what do you want it to sound like? Since we have already done the Shirl solo speculation, I say why not start a 5th proper album thread? Lets say in a couple of years Garbage decided to make another album, what sound do you think they should pursue? I think they should go in that tongue and cheek-funky sound like "Space Can Come.."Get Fizzy with the Bizzy,"SINTE. Those kind of G songs I think might have more potential than the RBR/BUTG , seemily modern rock radio songs and the harder G songs(that some reviewers say is outdated ) what do you guys think?

More Of The Amazing Vocals i love the vocals in run baby run ,special and right beetween the eyes.
More catchy cool sounds you listen for in songs like the rainbow sound in cherry lips and start of vow.
Bad Boyfreind had some amazing drum beats in.......more of that as most bands just use drums as a guideline.
guitar solo's are good i mean short one in sex is not the enemy and the 1 in vow is great!
fuck i want more garbage!!!!

The sad thing...we should still be in the "BLM era" so to speak. It ended WAY too soon.
I can only imagine at what stage the band would be in right now had they kept going. Tis sad...

Well if all goes well maybe we will go into the Absolute Garbage era (i still think if the label wants this to do well there must be a new track and at least a mini tour....Shirl could have a new diary entry soon since its been another month).

As close to the V2 style as possible.. the fact that Metal Heart is the only BLM track I really love, proved to me that I want electro-rock G back. If they could recapture the acidic lyrics of the s/t era, that would rock too.. BLM was pretty disappointing on that front..

I want the 5th studio album to be a replica of Version 2.0. Many artists repeat songs of the same style that were successful for them in the past. Garbage always try to be different in each album but i think this time they should stick to the successful Version 2.0 style .Dance rock and heavy production is what made them succesful, so why not repeat it?!

Hmm.... suggestions: 1. One more rap song Shirl please.... SYM was beautiful 2. Dance-rock like WDYLM would not be a bad idea.. but the album must have just one or two 3. Oh... heavy songs like "Push It" and "Metal Heart" and "WDYCO" would always be welcomed 4. No "Cherry-lips" or "BUTG" type synthesized vox please. CL(GBG) sounded too sweet. And i don't picture the band that way.. i like Shirl doing the moaning, screaming and her-type of singing... No Kylie copies please... 5. Lyrics should be more like the first album (not like BLM - BLM was the only song with good lyrics .. the rest all were just okay). the debut had some awesome lyrics 6. Drums like BB (as someone said above).. yes. BB has some awesome drumming 7. (has anyone actually felt the rage in the WDYCO song?) .. i want that feeling in a song or two. 8. songs like Vow/Subhuman/OWHIR/ITIP 9. ballads like "TTITKB" would be awesome!!
does anyone actually want Shirl to go solo. i don't want her to. i want another album after AbsolueGarbage

I'm worried that a solo effort by Shirley could end up being too commercial, and that I'd lose respect for her, or love for the band as a result.

When they wil be 50? I'm afraid that there's not going to be another Garbage album, so at least a solo by Shirley would be something. My only hope is that if Absolute Garbage is a commercial success (which will probably be) maybe Garbage reconsider the hiatus.

I think Butch may be, as well. Anyone sure?

If they want to keep Garbage alive they should start working on a new album right after Absolute Garbage.

i would love if the 5th album would have a mix between 'Never Be Free', 'Metal Heart', 'Shut Your Mouth' etc. and have ballads in the vein of TTITKB or 'Nobody Loves You'

I would like them to go heavy electronic, like Prodigy or Chemical Brothers, and have more dark edged songs. I mean dark in the way the debut is dark, but not a copy either. I love the ballads though too. "Never Be Free" sounds really electronic and guitar heavy which I like, but that particular song sounds like it could have been on the soundtrack to a 90's sci-fi/action flick. It sounds like b-side material as is imo. I would also like the lyrics to sound more like how they do on the debut/Version 2.0 albums. I like that style of writing more than the BG/Bleed Like Me style of writing. They sound more clever and deeper imo. Plus, I would really like for the band to focus on creating a good album, not just good songs. I think they overdid themselves on BG because they seemed more focused on making a bunch of different songs and then just flopping them onto the album. It sounds too mixed up and it doesn't flow very well. Bleed Like Me sounds better in that sense, but I think that album does sound like a desperate attempt to make something and it falls behind the debut and Version 2.0 for me. Something's lacking there.

I don't think age really has a lot to do with it. I mean as long as they're all still getting along and making awesome music what does age matter? It only really matters when a band like the Stones keep on going when really they should just give up coz they don't have what they used to. Garbage still have what they had 10 years ago and I think if they continue on they'll always be making great music whether they're in their 40's or their 50's.

Something like the last bit of Why Don't You Come Over, Steve with a talk box hahahahaha Shirley is welcome to do vocals on a track of the super group of Steves' album the magical day I convince them to come together

Garbage can make an album if they wanna make it. The age does not matter much. I mean there are so many musicians who have crossed 50 and still make good music right? So why can't Garbage? When they could come out with something as mindblowing as BLM after a breakup and all, i think they can manage to make another album and go with a bang. I don't think they should stop with the GH. Or the least they could do is come out with a few new singles (2 or 3) and cramp all their previously unreleased tracks onto those singles.. (of couse, those singles have to be on their GH tho!) Shril going solo is not a problem actually. Its just that i can imagine how the music will be... she'll probably end up making another BG type "pop" album with a few dark songs here and there. I'm not condemning Shirl here, but i guess that when you go solo, people prefer doing such music..
