Hi,
today I finally got around to digitalise my 7" vinyl of the "Control" single with the Blaqk Audio Remix on the B-side.
I have to say that the remix is a bit underwhelming. Nothing special, almost boring. With that being said, I still think that it's sad that there are not more remixes of the songs from the last album. In the past there always were 2 to 3 remixes of the single songs, nowadays there is nothing.
I am a big Garbage fan and I won't complain here, but in the past a new Garbage single was always big news for me as there were always new songs and/or new remixes but with the last album there aren't even physical releases anymore. I know this has to do with money and the fact that the band is now publishing their records themself but somehow there is not much for fans anymore after buying the limited edition...

The remixes were always matters of taste but I definitely miss the b-sides! We still never have one yet did we? The last new song being love like suicide. Maybe they are just saving them for the next album!

Yeah, I remember being excited about getting Garbage singles back in the day. I do miss having all that extra material. I definitely want some b-sides.

"B-sides" were a marketing tool to get you to buy a physical single, and not just the album. Now that b-side purchases won't propell a song into the charts 99.9% of artists have dropped them.
It's all about "bonus tracks", "special/deluxe edition tracks" and "tasters" and "buzz tracks" now. Unfortunately.

I've never really cared for remixes (with the exception of a couple...like BB/Sting Like a Bee and #1 Crush Nellee Hooper) but I do miss the b-sides! The band have talked about unfinished songs for a potential e.p since NYKOP's release and also made whispers about recording over Jan/Feb. My two cents, it seems more beneficial/profitable for Garbage to be releasing new tracks on an e.p than on their last few singles

I love the Heads Down Here We Come Remix. I think "Blood For Poppies", along with "Control" are up there with the first two album's singles. Curious, exciting and moving.

Of course you are right but at the same the bands like the Pet Shop Boys continue to release physical singles with lots of bonus songs and remixes. I think it's more like a service for the hardcore fans and not making any money but it would be really nice if Garbage did the same. It seems to be easier for the Pet Shop Boys as the have a major record label behind them whereas Garbage release their records via their own company.

Here is something to ponder. Garbage loses money on each vinyl the sell. They only release in that format for us hard core fans. Covering the loss with sales in other formats. So their Stun Volume is doing what the big boys won't. Something for the fans.
