tried to buy a ticket too this morning though it was a no go. I am still convinced ticketmaster has a certain percentage of tickets reserved for stubhub. i wish garbage was playing a bigger venue cause the demand is obviously extremely high.

I am so pissed. SO f*cking pissed.
I, my friend, and my sister were all on 3 different computers waiting ten minutes to 10 refreshing over and over and still none of us got it. Sold out at 10 exactly.
I just spent $300 to get 2 on Stubhub. I didn't want to do it, but I have to go so I caved. I am now officially a broke ass, but at least I have them.

No! You shouldn't had bought them. I'm not spending that amount of money that won't even go to the band, just to some douchebag.

BUUUUT if people would stop buying from those sites, those sites would not exists anymore.... or at least scalpers would have to reduce the price!! yep, okay you may say I'm a dreamer...

No! You shouldn't had bought them. I'm not spending that amount of money that won't even go to the band, just to some douchebag. You've summed up the problem perfectly. I have no problem giving the artist more money. But the 20 or so professional scalpers that scoop up tickets are going to make more than the band from this show! I know this show is more about kicking off the tour and giving hardcore fans a chance to see them at a great venue, but that is just crazy. Someone needs to step in and stop the madness. I say make the tickets non-transferrable, just like plane tickets. You have to show ID at the show to get into the event. Charge a premium if you have to for the extra staffing costs.

i really wanted to go to this show though I am wondering how awkward it might be since more fans are being left on the street then those that will actually be able to see garbage. I was prepared to fly in for the show though seeing how local fans in california are being shut out, there feels like a lot of negativity surrounding the show at the moment.
I hope garbage is able to add a second show at a 2,000-3000 person venue in the los angeles area to help cool people's tempers.
I am also still hoping that garbage might play a new york show around the end of april on their way to europe so fans around the US don't think this is their one shot to see them play.

^ Indeed, While unlikely, I've been harboring hopes they'd fit in a NYC gig before crossing the pond, figuring the timing coincides with when the band would be wise do be here running promo for the Album (I hope they do Howard again).
*ETA* At the same time (this is not directed at you) but that notion of 'one shot to see them play' that's flooding the social networks now irks me a bit. If we can't score LA tickets, or if they don't play NY around the NYKOP release date it's disappointing and scalpers suck and the sky is blue. US fans will have to wait what?, 2/3 more months before the opportunity to see multiple gigs, yes in less intimate venues, but for the first time in years.

G just tweeted a link to their FB page, discussing the scalping of the El Rey show and added:
"Meanwhile.......worry not. Those of you who got disappointed this morning will have another opportunity to see us SOON!!
SSSSSSShhhhhhhhhhhh did we just say that??!?!?!?"

I'm not computer smart, I'll start with that. And I wasn't looking into going to the LA show. But how is it that scalpers were able to get all the tickets when regular folk couldn't even get onto the site? Do the scalpers have some kind of *in* that fans don't know about? I sincerely hope the rest of the tour won't be like this. I don't wanna have to fight for my ticket when they come to my city! I also don't want to have to pay $300+ dollars for a ticket...

I didn't get tickets for the "2nd round" either. Now some casual fan who decides they might go to a G show on a lark & who has more money than me to feed the scalpers will go. So lame.
I'm wondering if Ticketmaster & Stubhub don't have some deal going also. Why is it that the scalpers can get through the site & pay for tons of tickets & put them up immediately on Stubhub, but fans cannot get through to even buy one ticket? What advantage are these scalpers getting? I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this is at a level where it doesn't make sense unless there is some intended advantage being given to these scalpers & resell sites.
I also feel like these resale sites should have some criteria to prevent people scalping many tickets to the same event immediately after they went on sale in order to make money vs reselling tickets they cannot use after all, but that they genuinely bought for themselves originally. There should be some cap on how much you can resell over the original price even.
The fact that this is happening says to me that Ticketmaster & StubHub support it & probably gain from it.

If I remember correctly I remember seeing some tv program about how scalpers and ticket resellers get the tickets. They use some kind of computer program or something.

Please DO NOT buy tickets from StubHub or other scalpers. You are part of the problem if you buy them from scalpers.
THERE WILL BE MORE SHOWS!

I have to admit that if it comes down to me spending buttloads of money to see the show versus not going at all bc a scalper beat me to a ticket...I can't rule out spending the outrageous money...simply bc I reallly wanna see my favorite band. I mean, what other option will we have?

Has anyone actually rung up Ticketek? Got a proper answer for it? It seems to be Stubhub could be a secret sub division of Ticketek and that's how they make even more money. If the band can set up their own record company, they should also set up their own ticket company too, there's going to be a lot of demand.

Clay and anyone else worried about future dates...
The band is working on a better solution for future shows, so I wouldn't worry. They're smart people. They'll get it figured out. Also remember that the El Rey has a capacity of 700, which exacerbates the problem.
