Also, Shirley doesn't appear at all in a search, neither Manson, Shirley or as Shirley, Manson or Shirley Manson

Looking at the BMI records list there are a few other songs that aren't on the Garbage discography, omg (maybe they're from other artists, if someone could clarify?)
Alone Angel on my Shoulder Brave New Heart Cold Again Deep Dream My Life Away Endless Miles Forever Gone Fugitive Dance Go Pack Go Guilty Help Me Find My Way Places To Run Rain On You Sounds Like Thunder Space (could be Space Can Come Through Anyone?) This Town Is On Fire Under Your Spell Walking With An Angel
They can't all be Garbage songs?

Just seen "DREAM MY LIFE AWAY" - new song or something from something else he has worked on? Thats a Firetown/Spooner song BMI numbers published tracks chronologically. Songs from the 80s have six digits, 90s and more recent have seven digits.

Those examples above are also either Firetown or Spooner songs. Go Pack Go is a 6 packers song. Guilty is a definite Garbage song from BLM era.
Shirley doesnt appear because she isn't a BMI affiliate, she is published by ASCAP.

I was leaning to think that Cold Again, Deep, and Angel were songs from Butchs new side-project *BUT* Alone being registered on BMI kinda mucks it up, as Steve mentioned that on Garbage twitter, where if it had been Butch's Twitter we could assume it might not always be Garbage he's talking about.
Anyway, those four songs have high 90's registries which places them as being registered within the last year.

I see what you mean about the registry numbers, I wouldn't have noticed that. Do you mind if I post it on my site? Obviously there's still a question mark around those songs but it's a possibility.

by "digitally" i'm guessing you mean lossy digital, and moreover distribution over the internet. i don't have much interest in lossy audio, so mp3s wouldn't excite me much. but i'd love to see them take the ball and run with some kind of online store for full PCM wav files. that would excite me. it's a shame that a few G songs (e.g. "All the Good in This Life") are not available as lossless audio.
i would buy a little G flash drive with all the albums and b-sides encoded in 24-bit audio. doesn't matter how much they would charge for it, i'd be there.

Thats a good point actually... Hole did a flash drive format for their last album. Garbage might do one as well (Im still hoping for vinyl as well)
Idb... ATGITL *is* available on CD on the Songs For Tibet charity album. The only thing I can think of that's not been released physically is the full length Orchestral mix of TMWIH (aka Un Belle de Jour mix)

The only thing I can think of that's not been released physically is the full length Orchestral mix of TMWIH (aka Un Belle de Jour mix) right, it's on that CD but unfortunately it's still lossy. they apparently just took the compressed audio and converted it to pcm. :-( oh well.

Really? I hadn't noticed - I'm not overly fond of ATGITL so I probably haven't played it since I ripped my copy of the Tibet CD in 2008. The way things are going, at least in the United Kingdom, I wouldn't be surprised if the next album era features a lot more digital only tracks. There's only one major chain left here that sells physical singles, HMV, and thats been in danger of closing down for a while. I think Germany still gets physical singles so I'm holding out for a European maxi CD single if the UK doesnt get one..but considering TMWIH was digital only in Europe I'm not counting on it.

again, i assume by digital you mean downloaded? cd audio is as digital as anything else...
it's funny that some artists seem to be tending toward high-quality audio (think Neil Young) but others are sliding toward lower quality. i'd hope that self-producers like Garbage might be pickier about the sound.
of course CD singles have been dead in the US for some time now, although stores still stock some imports and amazon makes it pretty easy to get international releases too. amazon UK is particularly friendly; i order UK/Euro items from them even if the item is on US amazon, because the price is nearly always quite a bit less, and the postage is usually no higher than domestic postage.
i'm like some others that have posted here, i am fond of the physical collectables :-) but more than anything else i'm fond of audio quality. we'll have to see what happens.

CD audio is better than Mp3 or AAC audio, but of course the purest form of sound is high quality vinyl (cant beat the analogue) or lossless formats. As for sound quality... Garbage seems to be on the fence with this one..the last two releases have been heavily compressed for loudness.
Amazon is your friend, but if Garbage's label doesnt release physical formats then we're screwed for collectables for the most part.

My primary concern is that I want legitimate copies of all the b-sides without having to spend years of my life on Ebay. Releasing digital download versions of the singles seems like the path of least resistance, given the complexity of the record label situation. Plus, I don't really care about having physical copies of the singles. I'm not a collector, but I still want the music. I just want an easy, legal way to buy the hard to find music I've been enjoying and I'd take 320kbps mp3 for the b-sides. Though if they could overcome legal hassles and sell music in the same way they do at Bandcamp, that'd be super awsome. Music bought at Bandcamp usually gives you several format options, including lossless. Better than CD or HQ vinyl is 96khz, 24 bit audio. You can only put that on disk. I like what You Shriek has done for their latest release and I think it'd be awsome if Garbage offered something like You Shriek's "high dynamic range" version on USB drive or for download for the new album: youshriek.com/2011/02/sitting-on-a-goldmine-landmine/
