Since the old Garbage singles are out of print and hard to find, I was wondering how many people would purchase them digitally if given the chance. I know I would love to have legitimate HQ audio files of all the b-sides. I have a couple of the CD singles, but I started paying attention to b-sides too late to bother with collecting and spending tireless hours on Ebay. I asked over on the band's Facebook page if they've ever considered this. We'll see if they respond. www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=260693913941467&id=100001863195061

Although I'm lucky enough to own all of Garbage's singles I would love to see more of their stuff available digitally , their back catalogue is stunning and should be available to other people

WDYLM, SINTE and TMWIH are available digitally in Warner Music Group regions (i.e. everything except USA/Canada) with all the b-sides (NCW, IJWHSTD, SCCTA, HB, NBF, BA, Betcha, ATGITL).
It would be good to have them all online, but I dont see it if they still plan on getting a B-sides album done someday. Also, if the band's labels have really lost the analogue masters for the first album, then I wouldn't count on the digital availability of the earliest b-sides ever happening.

It depends how much better quality they were, if there was a noticeable difference I'd go for it but to be honest I much prefer to buy physical copies of music, I hardly ever use iTunes for anything but singles, lol. I wish they had released that B-sides album though! I remember seeing a clip of an interview on the Absolute Garbage DVD when Shirley mentions their new single TWINE and that they would be releasing a B-sides compilation in the new year.

Paul will fill you in on that one its too complicated for me to try to explain on a Saturday morning- involves lots of label issues at the time

Thanks In 1999, Almo wanted to release a b-sides and remix album for North America, and Garbage's European label Mushroom wanted to release it as well for the rest of the world. Almo closed down at the end of 1999, and was sold to Universal so the album couldnt be released. Then they tried again to bring one out in 2002, but this time Mushroom closed and so the B-sides album hasnt happened yet. I dont see it happening until Garbage have another proper album out, and demand from people outside of the hardcore fanbase.

haha!
Thanks Paul, so much goes on with the labels I can't keep track. xD I agree though, they wouldn't release the B-sides until after the new album for sure. Maybe in a couple of years or something, that way they attract more fans with the new music plus they might even have a couple more demos from this album.

Yeah doing it right now would just be silly from a labels perspective. Its easy to slag labels off and criticize their decisions or inaction, but at the end of the day it is they who invest a large amount of money into album releases and its not for the music, for the fans, or for the art - its money.
They'll make more money from B-sides if the next album does well (They'd have made a lot more money if the B-sides album had arrived when it was first planned, in the pre-P2P days) But, every artist's discographies are littered with releases that never happened, so its not as if Garbage are singularly shat on by labels, just particularly unluckly in that respect. A proper B-sides album would be remastered, with proper artwork and maybe new tracks.
I suppose us in the UK are lucky that our singles market *was* so geared towards multi-formatting and b-sides, at least compared to the US market which largely was airplay dominated in the 90s - in fact, the States only got four b-sides officially released (Girl Dont Come, Sleep, Driving Lesson and Thirteen). Compared to the UK which got every B-side (apart from Bad Ass) or Europe and Australia, who got almost all of them.

I figured it would be easier to release the singles digitally than create a whole new b-sides album as far as labels go. But maybe not. It can't hurt to at least let them know there is interest. I know they wanted to do the b-sides album and that would be ideal if it was an all inclusive collection.
And can I just say for the record that I hate the regional differences in the iTunes stores! The UK gets a lot of good stuff we don't get here.

Then again, sometimes budget iTunes albums turn up out of the blue. A while ago, the Sugababes (a band who were reknowned for replacing members and now none of the original trio remain), had a digital only album that had EVERY b-side and commerical remix collected together in one big album for about 20UKP - including all their pre-digital era singles. It did look a little cheap aesthetically though. Just arrived one day on iTunes with no announcement.
B-sides have sorta died now with the digital age - it's all remix bundles and ITunes only album bonus tracks now. The only two artists I still care about hearing b-sides are Garbage and Kylie Minogue (who does wonderful b-sides)

Not sure if I'd want to pay £20 for a digital album, lol, maybe for a physical copy but even then it's expensive. Depends how much was included and if there were any new songs from the new album or something, which is pretty likely as we've been told 15 song titles and Butch said they had 24 songs to "ruff mix", lol.

Crikey - have they really confirmed 15 song titles, I'm going to have to have another look - can't wait to see the running order - what makes the cut

Beloved Freak (Shirley mentioned it in a comment reply) Electro (which *might* be the same song as Automatic Systematic Habit re: whiteboard) Cold Again (registered to Butch on BMI, might not be a Garbage song but Alone is also singularly registered) Deep (registered to Butch on BMI) Angel on My Shoulder (registered to Butch on BMI)
