Garbage feature on this week's Classic Concert, presented by Chris Hawkins. The gig was recorded by the BBC at Leeds Metropolitan University on the 9th of April 1996, and includes the classics Queer, Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains.
Garbage were a superbly refreshing and intelligent interpretation of nineties musical styles. Strange samples and loops underpin songs of intensity, obsession and vengeance which, with the help of vocalist Shirley Manson's quietly psychotic, sexy and understated delivery, create a heady mixture of power-pop. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00v7tr4Streams audio only using BBC iPlayer, but currently working for those of us in the states. Available on the site for the next week. Setlist: Queer Fix Me Now Not My Idea Milk Supervixen Stupid Girl OHWIR Vow Trip My Wire Kick My Ass Subhuman Girl Don't Come And yes, I'm cringing this is a classic concert.

imo Loreley '98 is their classic show. They weren't really up to speed during the debut tour.

This show was recorded for the BBC at the time, so it's probably the only one the BBC owns the rights to broadcast - it was on last year I recall, still you gotta love the fact that Subhuman is getting broadcast somewhere in the world.

For me the classic Garbage concerts are: - Bizarre Festival 1996 (fave concert from debut era) - Loreley 1998 (and Reading 1998 as audio bootleg) - Koln 2002 (totally awesome) - Rock am Ring 2005, Glastonbury 2005 and KROQ Inland Invasion 2005 (hard to choose one of them)

Bizarre '96 and Edinburgh '99 immediately come to my mind when I'm thinking about favorite Garbage concerts. And any Garbage concert that happens during a sunset (that's Edinburgh '99), or when it's raining (that's "T in the Park" in Balado, Scotland on 7/12/98) are always my favorite Garbage concerts.... FYI: I just made this discovery of this 1998 "T in the Park" Paranoid clip while I was looking for the Only Happy clip from the same concert which has been up on Youtube forever. This "T in the Park" Paranoid clip was posted in September 2009. The Youtube poster of this "T in the Park" Paranoid clip is andrea111292. And it's the only "T in the Park" Garbage concert clip she has posted. She doesn't have anymore of this concert to post. Read the youtube comments of DarkLord61636 and andrea111292 (her comments are in Italian)... DarkLord61636's post of "T in the Park" Only Happy www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQW0tSUAFJwandrea111292's post of "T in the Park" Paranoid www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUTE_-eOJ1Yandrea111292 comments: "Peccato che non riesco a trovare l'intero concerto." translated: "Too bad I cannot find the entire concert." Now, who on this Garbage board is "DarkLord61636" and "andrea111292"...lmao! And, if you're on this board, thankyou for posting these '98 "T in the Park" concert clips on Youtube. Does anyone on this board know if the entire '98 "T in the Park" concert is available to download? (Yah, I'm too lazy to make a few clicks on over to Garbage Dump to go get that answer myself - I AM PATHETIC ;D)

Is the Leeds gig on anywhere? I mean to download not just 6Music It's been a couple years since I was a frequent visitor to the Garbage Dump on this board, and, I'm about ready to dive back into it to find out what is there, and what is not there now. I have scores of collected web links to Garbage pictures, concert videos, concert sound recordings, and radio broadcast recordings ...of which I don't know what the status of all those web links are right now (i.e., dead or alive) ...and I have my own collection of Garbage concert audio and video I've downloaded off the web and burned on to DVD ...and it's been a couple years since I looked over my own collection, and I couldn't tell you off the top of my head what I've got in my own collection. When I dive back into the Garbage Dump, I'll be taking inventory of my own collection at that time. The great thing about this internet revolution: while I'm sure I'm going to find that some of my favorite Garbage fan websites are now closed, I'm also sure I'm going to find some new Garbage fan websites and - fingers crossed - new concert video and audio I've never seen before. With the passage of time, it's only getting easier for the public to come forward with their private collection of concert video and audio recordings to share on the web. Recently happening in the news, movie films of past dead presidents that the public has never seen before has been released onto the web from private film collections. And likewise, I'm anticipating that we're going to be seeing web postings happening from time-to-time into the future of never-before-seen Garbage concert video and audio from private collections.

Andrea is a boy BTW I have When I grow Up from T in the park somewhere, however Scottish television only broadcast those three songs back in 1998, so those are the only footage we have of the show. I remember the rain from that day - the heaviest rain I have ever experienced in my lifetime.

On "T in the Park" - Do you think Scottish TV captured that entire performance on video tape? I've gotta believe that they did. "T in the Park" is a very good example of a Garbage concert that I've been longing for someone to put up on the web in its entirety. To mssm2: You could use a freeware audio capture program to capture streaming audio. CNET Download.com is a great place to look at freeware audio capture programs. Andrea is a boy BTW Andrea's channel on YouTube: "GARBAGE & SHIRLEY MANSON" www.youtube.com/user/andrea111292In Andrea's profile, it does say: "Andrea (It's a male name)" ...oops!

They probably do own the entire festival footage, but like i said only broadcast the three songs as part of a six part compilation of all bands performances over august 1998 - back then UK television just didnt show full sets like you get now.

This gets me to thinking about hows there's probably hundreds of hours of Garbage concert video shot by pro TV crews that was not broadcast on the air, due to broadcasters having to adhere to time limitations, that is laying in video vaults in TV stations around the world. And I gotta tell you right here what I find so very appealing about Shirley's performance in "T in the Park"... ...she's wearing military style camo pants, a simple dark rain jacket, minimal make-up on her face, she's very animated in her movements like a rap singer, ...it's so obvious SHE'S HAVNG FUN in this "T in the Park" performance. We've heard Shirley express her weariness of wearing sexy skimpy outfits on stage. I prefer seeing Shirley wear what she's wearing in this "T in the Park" performance - simple sensible comfortable street clothes like you and I would wear. And I think Shirley wearing informal come-as-you-are street clothes on stage so much better reflects what the Garbage experience is about. I have a theory that when Shirley wears informal come-as-you-are street clothes on stage, she's more physically animated on stage, she goes much deeper into the zone of her performance, she's more comfortable on stage (less inhibited), and she enjoys her time on stage so much more.

on Leeds, i recall that a portion of this came out on a promo cd numbered 97-13 (Westwood One?). the narrator claimed it was Reading but not so. the main part of the show has also appeared on bootlegs but i don't ever recall seeing the encore tracks on any of those.
the band really should consider a series of live discs...

I seem to have misplaced it I do believe I might be able to get my hands on it once again, however, if there is still a demand for the rest of the gig
