Okay, I was trying to source some of the tracks that Garbage have sampled, or covered and stuff, and I thought, some of Garbage's intro and outro tapes are just as much part of the Garbage canon by proxy, as much as Supernatural or Don't Let Me Down are. Is there anyone here who has listened to Johnny Cash's "Hurt" without getting goosebumps at the point when Garbage would have appeared on stage? The one's I'm aware of are: - Queer (Remix) on the debut tour. - That "oh oh/piano" thing that plays before Dumb on Live Edition EP from the first few months of the Version 2.0 tour. - "I think I'm Crystalized" for a few 1998 festival shows on Version 2.0 tour - The classical music piece by Mahler that was used for the late 1998 and majority of the 1999 shows (what was it exactly?) - Androgyny Thee Glitz mix on the BG tour 2001 dates - That piece that opens the show just before "Push It" on 2002 dates what was that? - Johnny Cash "Hurt" on Bleed Like Me shows. and finally Frank Sinatra's "Young at Heart" as an outro tape on all the tours - I've got a taped interview where Shirley explains why they used it but I can't for the life of me remember why. Anybody know of any others, or can fill in the gaps in my knowledge?

maybe not the best topic to ask, but I was always wondering, who's speach was used in the intro of live Hammering in my head? don't remember the whole thing but there was something about rubbish, facing the reality and violence

Oh and they also covered Maps of the YYY's at the end of Vow as well as a song that goes like"The birds do it, the bees do it, so c'mon let's fall in love" and also "cause everytime I see your d**k I see her c**t in my bed". I don't know if that helped =P

Do you know bad girls go to Hell?" It's from the trailer to this exploitation movie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Girls_Go_to_HellIt was used mainly to intro "Vow", but I'm pretty sure it popped up in front of "Temptation Waits" and "#1 Crush" a handful of times over the years.

I don't know if that helped =P I tried compiling a list of all the cribbed lines Shirley uses a few years ago as well, this is what I can remember off the top of my head: Vow "Every time I see your dick...." et al is Marianne Faithful "Why D'Ya Do It" (most performances) "I hear you howl at the moon" I'm not sure about this one, but she sang it at Roskilde 1998 "Birds do it, bees do it, let's fall in love" is from Cole Porter's "Let's Do it", she sang that a few times in 1999 if I remember right? "They don't love you like I love you" is Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" "I don't want a lover whose drunk and cannot fuck" is Bright Eyes "Lover I Don't Have To Love" Stupid Girl "The truth is in your heart" was in the 1996 performances, not sure what that's from although everyone always thinks of Dee-Lites "Groove is in Your Heart" "Tell you What I want, What I really really want" is from Spice Girls "Wannabe" most 1998 and early 1999 performances "Hit me Baby one more Time" is obv the Britney song, from mid to late 1999 performances. Not My Idea "You may ask yourself, how did I get here?" is Talking Heads "Once in a Lifetime", from some 1995 performances "Sha Sha Ka Boom! (or soemthing like that)" she sang in a few 1999 performances, no idea what thats supposed to be! "You've got grey eyes/green eyes/blue eyes" is New Order "Temptation" and used almost every performance. Special "Talk of the Town" by The Pretenders is on the record and most live performances, but for about six months of 1999 she sang "Kid, what changed your mood/You've gone all sad and got so quiet/I think I know what you're about" from their other song "Kid" Parade "Get your Freak On" by Missy Elliot ad-libbed in majority of the 2002 performances Queer In the Glasgow Barrowlands 1998 performance she sang "It was meant for me, it was meant for you" over the outro, I've never knew where that was from. You Look so Fine In 1999 she sang this over the outro, never knew what it was from: "It's a grand canyon in this pin-sized space/It's the greatest castle in the God-forsaken place" Trip My Wire "Train train train coming down the tracks/ You took my baby but never again" is from "Mystery Train" a song Elvis covered, and so did Goodbye Mr Mackenzie "Good Golly Miss Molly/You sure like to ball" is from "Good Golly Miss Molly", cant remember who did that originally, but she sang lines from that between 96 and 99.

Yolanda, I actually think Johnny did a better version of it than NIN. The tempo of the orignial is hard to keep up with on the original.

I always felt the bands intro music was lacking. I am a BIGGG fan of the big intro and build up to the band hitting the stage. They never really did that.

In 2005, Shirley sometimes started OHWIR with "I'm singin' in the rain, Just singin' in the rain, What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again" (it's from the film "Hollywood Revue of 1929).
Also, "Everything's gonna be alright, Everything's gonna be alright now" (it's by Naughty by Nature) was sometimes sang at the end of Not My Idea

Can anyone recall which shows she sang the Not My Idea line from so I can check it out? And are you sure "Everything's gonna be alright" wasnt Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry (which a Boney M cover of the track was sampled by Naughty by Nature.)?
