i wonder...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just watching all my Garbage videos again...
I came across Push It and just realized that I have NO frickin clue what the video means. I mean, it's really cool, and distrubing (in a good way!) and the band looks awesome in it.
But wow, can you say abstract?
Anyone care to share their interpretations?

P P P Push it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is gonna sound very geeky but Push it is my favourite song of all time (Hence the name and the slogan at the end).
I had a little think about the video and this is what i've come up with (remember it's just a guess, don't shout at me):
It's taking a theme and warping it with abstract images.
In general it is about SOCIETY today and the place of Commerce, traditional family values, sex and religion in everyday life.
The NUNS represent religion, so the video seems to be stating that religion has become something that is thrown at us, thrust at us until we explode with the guilt (The SCRIBBLY MAN exploding).
Shirls represents any woman in society today. First she is with the Scribbly Man, then they divorce and she remarries the LIGHT BULB HEAD MAN. This is showing the rise in divorces in life today and the fall of the traditional nuclear family (She still has the scribbly mans baby even though she is living with the light bulb head man).
The bizarre CHILDREN OF THE CORN characters represent money and social worries that face any family today (One of them has a DOLLAR sign on his forehead).
The light bulb head represents the sexual spark that a couple should have between them, however the light bulb headed man's is very little (Get the picture) and flickers on and off until eventually it is completely extinguished by worry over money and revenue (The Children that represent worry put a net over it). So our Shirls cheats on the light bulb headed man with the man who carrys the BIG LIGHT BALLOON, because his sexual sparkls is still burning brightly. It's principally down to lust.
She hasd a sexual relationship with the guy with the balloon (This is symbolised by him placing her foot in his mouth). It is a graveyard setting because sex out of marriage is regarded as heresy by the church.
The sailor woman is having sex with herself (Masturbation).
The woman in the tank is being reborn (The tank represents a womb)
The bizarre fish women represent same sex couples (They carry a child and are attached at the back of the head).
Basically it's about life today. Hope this gives you something to think about. I'm not claiming to be right but hey i can guess.
Sorry it's so long
Rob

whaaa?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
man, that is some deep thought. Maybe they just images pop into their heads and just added each thing to the video. Like said before, abstract. Or maybe not. I like the mystery in it.

Bloody talented director
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't have to be on crack to think surrealy. I think it's a kick ass video and i definitely think there is a theme to it, i don't think it's just random images. Bloody talented whoever he is.

I am amazed by your assessment, young scholars. Actually, after watching the death in vegas clip for "dirt", andrea giacobbe was chosen to direct. He is extemely talented and a master of his craft. He also did an amazing clip for Atari Teenage Riot later on.

I like your interpretation of the video. It should be official. What fish women are you talking about? The siamese choreographered dancing (sp, lol) twins? Oh yeah! What is the meaning of the scene where the four black clothed people are sitting around a table with a little girl and her hair flies all over the place?

notice the kids riding the parents? again, decline of good traditional values...
maybe they're trying to get rid of that from the girl.
