MTV and VH1, they still did poorly on the charts, which was number 41 only doing 19,555 units.....and Garbage got some, if none on those stations and is well on the verge of going to 80K....that just tells you something

What does that tell us? That Garbage has a large impressionable teenage fanbase?

Well. Y'know. You didn't even like the album and you still bought it. Isn't that just as bad?

(a) the new hot hot heat album sucks, and the new garbage album is actually good (or at least far superior to the HHH album).
(b) hot hot heat doesn't have a huge fanbase, and the whole entire "indie" music scene is fickle as shit. they'll latch onto a band and "love" them and then when they put out their next album 8 people will buy it (the band member's parents). they never really crossed over into pop so they have a very narrow spectrum of fans who, if they're not impressed with what you have to offer, have many, many other options that they'd gladly spend their money on.
(c) hot hot heat's new album sucks.
(d) their new video, despite the heavy push by MTV and MTV2 initially, is basically pleading to be an 80's video and i think everyone's getting tired of the whole 80's revival thing. it's done in an interesting way i suppose but peter gabriel did it better in 1983 or whenever, with a better song too.
(e) the single itself sucks. it's hard to sing along to, and it's annoying.
bands who have shitty singles off shitty albums with fickle fanbases sell 20K their first week.
bands with strong fanbases, a solid catalog behind them, a good first single that's got a good enough hook to get stuck in your head, an attractive and outspoken frontperson and a semi-artsy and interesting video sell significantly more their first week.
so there's your explanation.
as far as the mudvayne thing, they're probably riding the same wave that slipknot is. it's a word of mouth thing and they probably tour their fucking asses off. and thats how you sell lots of albums too.

It's like the Kings Of Leon. The press hyped them up as the next great thing and that they're big in England and how did their new cd end up doing?

I really don't like most of those 80's revival bands the official #s for the top 10 this week The Top 10 this week: 1 50 CENT MASSACRE 165,110 -22 210,697 2,980,581 2 EVANS*FAITH FIRST LADY 157,241 999 491 157,735 3 BECK GUERO 80,865 -50 162,105 243,429 4 NOW 18 NOW 18 76,829 -24 100,693 786,105 5 112 PLEASURE & PAIN 60,734 -48 117,347 178,476 6 SMITH*WILL LOST & FOUND 60,167 -39 98,053 160,109 7 GREEN DAY AMERICAN IDIOT 58,697 -8 63,934 3,208,574 8 SIGEL*BEANIE B.COMING 57,196 -56 130,714 188,948 9 PRESLEY*LISA MARIE NOW WHAT 56,226 999 176 56,402 10 JOHNSON*JACK IN BETWEEN DREAMS 54,720 -16 65,189 660,241 I believe BLM could actually get closer to 80k+, but even if it stayed at 75k or even slightly lower, it would have a great shot at a Top 5 debut assuming Mariah is #1, 50 #2, and Mudvayne #3. on a side note...isn't it NUTS how down sales are this year?! You can sell like 10,000 albums and be in the Top 75...it used to be you could barely make the Top 200 with that #.

You just perfectly described Bleed Like Me's appeal. So you don't sell 80K because of the music, do you. But because the band's frontwoman is a fox. Hm.

that explanation was intentionally referencing everything garbage has been doing right.
the fact that she's an attractive woman is only one of the reasons why the album should chart relatively well.
to be completely honest with you, if shirley weren't a woman and they made the same music, you'd be hearing a lot less about garbage than you do right now.
i'm not taking anything away from the music they create or anything. but if you look at the situation realistically, having a female frontperson puts you in the minority, especially in "rock". and often times that gets you more press than you'd get if the band were helmed by a male.

first off, album sales mean shit! who cares if they sell 80k or 80 billion or 8 copies that isn't the point. its all about how good the album is. that's it.
......and no the new hot hot heat album, elevator doesn't suck, its quite good. granted its not as good as bleed like me. but it is good.
