I may scan this later, it's not a big deal. CosmoGirl! (Avril issue) has a section on up and coming girl-fronted rock bands, and before that they have a page of "Rock Idols" with Tina Turner, Janis, Stevie, and our very own Shirl among others. The pictures are made to look like punk-pins, and Shirley's is the largest on the page, along with Janis's, which I was very happy about it. Gwen, Kathleen Hanna, Debbie Harry and some others have smaller pins. The picture of Shirley is from a live Summer 1998 show. It's cute. I don't know if I would go out of my way to buy it, but the Avril article is interesting as well. Oh yeah, Ashlee Simpson said Courtney Love and Fiona Apple are two of her influences.

I am blind, but where is Courtney in that mix? They didn't include her. :-| However, a few pages on, Ashlee Simpson said she is one of her influences.

However, a few pages on, Ashlee Simpson said she is one of her influences. I had the extreme misfortune of running into that loser's video on MTV the other day. The talent obviously wasn't distributed evenly in that gene pool. Is this what makes people famous these days? Having a famous sibling? Is there a lower form of celebrity than the no talent sibling? I've never actually heard a song that made me want to kill myself like that one did.

argh....they are talking about women who "break the mold"...you don't HAVE to be tough and dark to do that, and personally I don't really think Shirley fits the "Dark" role anymore. Gwen has at points, not right now. I agree both of them are tough, as is Debbie Harry and all of the other women including. I just don't see why you don't think Gwen deserves to be on there....she struggled for a decade before she became famous, was the only girl in ska/punk for YEARS, and along with Shirley and Courtney helped create the female rock explosion. So yes, Gwen rocks.

well i didn't say Gwen isn't cool or anything, it's just if she deserves to be on the list, a lot of other female artists do, if not more than she does. IMHO her success is more on the comercial aspect than her music itself. but then again, just because she's not on my list doesn't mean i don't think she's a good artist & all... Katy's right, it's Cosmo so i really shouldn't expect Siouxsie or PJ to make it...
