THANKYOU FOR THE BEST 25TH BDAY I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR!!
I was the one who got wished the Happy Bday in the crowd at the Forum - my bday was the next day. What a FANTASTIC show = you could tell Garbage as a whole enjoyed performing as much as what we enjoyed watching them do so. What a rocking night, and that and the Palais (I was a concert virgin til I went there... I had been saving that cherry for a special band) are memories I will never forget.
Thankyou Garbage and thankyou to everyone at the Forum who even if you didnt know it, helped me celebrate my 25th and made it so enjoyable. These guys ooze street cred and coolness like nothing else... I have to say Shirely having her name sprawled across her arse in black nikko made me laugh.
I have followed Garbage since I was 15 (1995) when their first song came out. I love everything about them and I cant speak highly enough of them as performers who appreciate their fans and Melbourne.
So once again Garbage, thanks for the best 25th bday I could have hoped for. I had a ROCKIN great night!!!!
The Forum was smaller than the Palais which considering the seating I got last time was fantastic. I was up the front in front of Duke and to the right.
Standing room only - I thought all my dreams had nearly come true...
Duke I lost count of how many times he smiled as did Shirley at the bunch of girls that were (I was one of them mind you but it was the eve of my 25th so I had to scream my head off) screaming as loud as they could no matter what.
Butch was banging away on his drums like he couldnt think of a fucking thing better than to go nuts on them and Steve was strumming away
Duke was bouncing off the walls and the stage floor like hed had too many Red Bulls and had a never ending grin on his face, the other guy was in heaven it seemed giving us the base guitar as strong and raw as he could possibly make it and Shirley was doing what she does best... Strutting and giving everyone attitude and that 'what the fuck do you want' look.... that everyone loves. Oh and not to mention, in case anyone forgot who she was had her name inked in permanent texta across her arse.
Somehow I dont think that was going to happen
They started of with Supervixen and followed through with a huge mix of songs from all albums including a few that they didnt play at the Palais, although Number #1 Crush wasnt played at the Forum... but all is good. Supervixen was as well as the stopper When I Grow up (or we or you depending on Shirley and the lyrics)
Shirely due to recent throat surgery told the boys that they had to speak and it was reiterated by Butch that they werent breaking up which was received by a huge screaming, cheering crowd.
Shirely acknowledged those who were attending shows as avid fans although the new guitarist (I cant member his name for my life) mentioned 1 girl who was doing her 50th show and wished Happy Birthday to me (knew all that screaming was doing something other than damaging vocal cords) and seemed like he couldnt get over the non stop screaming. Shirley just smiled at him.
Shirely was also asked by some person to marry their mum. Her reply was I dont want to marry your fucking mother. Why dont you marry my mother you motherfucker, with the addition of a sarcastic Oh, I forgot,.... shes already married!!! Needless to say people were laughing.
It was a great show and it was evident that they appreciate all the trouble that fans go to especially in forking out dough for tickets. I thought that the price was more than reasonable and the $200 I spent to go to both shows was worth every microcent I spent to be in poverty for the next week and a half til payday.
she also gave shit to the guys cause she did the Aussie accent thing and told us that when she did that at the Palais the boys told her that it was really obnoxious. And knowing that Shirley cant think of a better thing to do than to pleasure herself ('and Im all about self pleasure" as she says) she put em through it all again. To the delight and hilarity of everyone present.
The tried and true songs of Vow, Stupid Girl, Im Only Happy When It Rains, Cherry Lips, Shut Your Mouth, I think Im Paranoid and the show closer When I Grow Up they did to their rockingly best. Ah. Pure Bliss
When I Grow Up just about brought the Forum crashing down around my ears as everyone got into it (I love the song as I dont think anyone that loves it will ever grow up - when do you know that you have reached the stage that you have 'grown up' anyway?) and jumped, danced, screamed, cheered and made sure it would be one show that Shirely and the boys would never forget.
The place was packed. Shirley tried to get the crowd as she does to sing along. This particular song was Stupid Girl - after realising that we were singing what we wanted she smiled gave up and recorrupted us to how it should be...
What a night. For those that missed it, you missed out on one of the best bands ever playing probably one of the best shows of their careers....
And didnt they know it... As did we all and we loved them for every bit they gave. And more.
So thanks Garbage and all those that turned out. I still cant get the concert outta my head and although most of my pics turned out crap, I have to say the ones that did are frameable!
Cheers!!!
