I like the Cranberries, but The Carpenters is what I grew up with. Karen's voice has so much feeling and emotion in it. The lyrics have depth.
"We've only just begun, to live..."

do you realise that if we decide to rank all artists from a to z, and as it takes about 3 weeks per letter, we'll be done after garbage has released their 4th cd and they'll probalby be on tour ?

Just so I won't have to ask later, are you allowed to just second other people's nominations willy nilly? Or is there a limit to that?

WHO THE HELL IS VOTING FOR THE CRANBERRIES. JESUS. It's gotta be either the Clash/Johnny Cash or Elvis Costello...but not that affected Sinead O Connor clone Dolores twating Riordan.

How can you imply that the cranberries lyrics have no depth? I voted for Elvis Costello. He truly is amazing. I love the carpenters and the cranberries, but no one beats costello for me.

Cranberries are good, and have a lot of deep lyrics. I like Delores' voice sometimes. But it does get on mine, and a lot of other peoples nerves. Carpenters, Costello have even deeped lyrisc. The Clash, WTF?. Rock the Casbah is their only hit, and no I don't own any of their albums either. I have my hard earned cash to spend on other things.

please dont let the cranberries win. I don't see how they're winning, I mean the only songs I've heard from them are "Dreams" and "Zombie" and I like those, but I don't see how they can beat The Carpenters....but whatever...I'll live

The Clash were a semial punk band that inspired many many musicians from The Foo Fighters to even U2. Their music was more than a sound it was also a political statement. Not sure what legacy The Carpenters or The Cranberries laid down, but it was no where as big or as important than The Clash or Johnny Cash on that list.
