Please don't recommend Bjork, Tori, or Dido.

RIGHT - I DON'T NEED ASKING TWICE.
Not sure about the price difference US/UK but here are my recommendations. Firstly, avoid any No Doubt recordings at all costs. Secondly buy The Whole Story by Kate Bush, best compilation ever.
Anything by Led Zeppelin, particularly the fourth album or Physical Grafitti.
Portishead - Dummy
Pixies - Surfer rosa or Doolittle
Happy Mondays - compilation
David Bowie - Hunky Dory
Lou Reed - Berlin
PJ Harvey - Stories from the City...
Patti Smith - Horses
Bob Dylan - Desire
Siouxsie and the Banshees - A Kiss In The Dreamhouse
I think that's enough to be going on with. Apologies if you have any of these recordings and feel patronised! Just some of my favourites. Damn I just realised I need to discover some new sounds...most of these are ancient. But very good, honest.

How could I have forgotten Jeff Buckley? Yup, Freya's right. Buy Grace by Jeff Buckley it's amazing. Listen to the last track first, it's called Dream Brother. I also like So Real, Lilac Wine, Hallelujah and Grace. It's a grower too, so make sure you listen to it a couple of times before you decide whether or not you like it. Gorgeous looking lad too...

Don't get me wrong, I love singer/songwrites a la Jeff Buckley...but I can only listen to them in small doses. I like stuff that is a little more agressive.

I gotta see that movie lol. I am a sucker for horror movies. I actually heard it was pretty decent. For DVD's I am gonna buy Pirates of the Caribbean and maybe TCM.

I was actually a little dissapointed in it, but it's still just a fun-ass movie. lol..
Once I get the money, I'd like to get the whole Nightmare on Elm Street box set. Freddy's by far the best horror villian ever. I used to be so scared of his face. I couldn't even watch a couple minutes of those movies back then.

i'm more than a little belated here, but some suggestions are- Desert Sessions 9&10 The Stooges- Stooges (or Funhouse is good as well) PJ Harvey- Stories... or To Bring You My Love Interpol- Turn on the bright lights (but only if you appreciate Ian Curtis from Joy Division Jeff Buckley is wonderful, btw...along with Sigur Ros' (), Nick Drake's Pink Moon, and Peter Gabriel's Passion albums, he is in the class of great makeout/make love music..
