Have you heard of this Yale art student? "Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process." Are you sick yet? No? Read on! "The display of Schvarts' project will feature a large cube suspended from the ceiling of a room in the gallery of Green Hall. Schvarts will wrap hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting around this cube; lined between layers of the sheeting will be the blood from Schvarts' self-induced miscarriages mixed with Vaseline in order to prevent the blood from drying and to extend the blood throughout the plastic sheeting." The comments on this Jezebel post mirror my own. Moronic self-serving attention whore.

I went to view the comments and there was a big Update thingy there today. She seems crazy regardless of whether or not she really did it or not.
So it turns out that Aliza Shvarts, the Yale student who said she impregnated herself only to abort her embryos using "herbal" methods several times over for an art project, totally pulled one over on everyone. (Well, everyone except Moe.) She didn't really get pregnant a bunch of times, and she didn't really give herself abortions. According to a statement issued by Yale spokesperson Helaine S. Klasky, the entire stunt — Shvarts' press release, visual presentation, and narrative materials — was all part of Shvarts' real art project: Proving people are gullible weenies.
Actually, "gullible weenies" isn't the term that was used, but that's pretty much what it amounted to. Here's the full statement from Klasky:
"Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art. Her art project includes visual representations, a press release and other narrative materials. She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman's body. She is an artist and has the right to express herself through performance art.
Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns."

I am a "gullible weenie."
But she's still a moronic self-serving attention whore.

I'm concluding that this bitch is nuts regardless of whether or not it actually happened. And who are these guys that dumped a load in a cup for her to "self-inseminate" Do you even think they enjoyed masturbating into the cup if they knew what she was doing? Fuck... At least make it enjoyable. lol

I think the whole situation is interesting....im not going to be as quick to judge as some others on this board....I think this does push the boundaries a little and is making us ask alot of questions which i guess is a good thing.
The fact that she has peole ALL over the world discussing her "art" on a message board dedicated to a band (and no doubt countless other boards) obviously means that the point of her artistic expression has worked....hasnt it?!

Damn, that's like saying you made performance art by blowing a load on the faces of a bus load of senior citizens whose bus you hijacked. All in the name of art and understanding of our mistreatment of the elderly in our society. C'mon. This woman is insane.

Oh ive judged her a little...but comming online to say that she should have her productive organs stripped and to never be allowed to procreate again is just proving how effective her peice was. I think any expression made for the sole purpose of art must be artistic...at least on some level...right?! and just as an aside....her performance art is modifying her own body...she is really not interfereing with anyone else's life like in your scenario...well at least not in my beliefs she isnt...but thats a whhhooooooollllle other kettle of fish

This is almost a situation of powers for good or evil, the woman is obviously creative and to some extent brilliant. I am not going to rest in the sole fact that she is in Yale because prestigious universities tend be about who you and your family know...
However, based on the fact that she as an "artist" wanted to make people think or at least bitch, she succeeded in whole. Now whether or not she is creating art is a personal debate in of itself.
It brings my mind back to the "piss christ" controversy, though that had different depths and angles to it. I will give my two cents to say though what she did and what she alleged are both disturbing and disguisting, she is more creative than Andres Serrano's conceptual photography.

"Moralists have no place in an art gallery."
The age-old debate rages on.

I just dont understand how artists such as damien hirst can be applauded and revered for the controversial work that they create but a yale student is automatically sentenced to burn in hell....

I personally belive that her idea for doing this was to get attention to herself as an artist. By her saying she wanted people to see how gulable we are when it comes to art is just ridiculous. When we view art as seperate individuals we will interpret it differently. When she told people her piece of art were fetus taken from her body through several self aborted processes WHERE does that leave US to interprate her "art"? IT DOESN'T. We now know what the point was she was making. It doesn't leave anything for us to connect with personally and take away as something to appreciate. Therefore, she succeded in making a world wide name for herself in an UNARTFUL way.
