So this was announced on Garbage's various social media profiles:
There's more information about it on their facebook and tumblr pages, but basically their releasing two new songs with one of tracks being titled "The Chemicals" which will feature vocals from the lead singer of Silversun Pickups Brian Auburt. Hells to the yeah!! What do you guys think it's going to sound like?

Great news eh! The thing that struck me most was how unlike other G releases the artwork is. Anyhow, It looks really dark so here's hoping its a true homage to their debut, what with the anniversary and all. The Chemicals is a really cool sounding title, heard the B side is called "On Fire". Probably really bad but have no clue who the guy is!!

The oil painting / old school art certainly has me intrigued. I don't know my artistic eras in the modern world well enough to place this. Ask me about Greek, Roman, or Egyptian art and that's a different story

I'm a little nervous - a male vocal on a Garbage track? Hmm, and the cover art is not very 'them' and in a recent Butch Vig interview he said they consider the new album to be VERY different from their other album. Either way I think it'll be good. Hope it's not too much a deviation from their style ala Girls Talk Shit (I never thought the colaboration with Brody Dale worked for them stylistically).

I'm quite excited about the prospect of a new sound, I don't think they took enough risk with the last couple of records. Girls Talk Shit was good until the part when Brody starts screaming like a banshee, why do people do that?!?!

I actually REALLY like "Girl Talk" as a song, especially production wise. It's a bit of a different sound, but also totally sounds like a Garbage track? But I agree that Brodie screaming really hurts the track. If you removed her, I would dare say the song belongs on NYKOP.
Now that I think about it, I feel like the band is taking some of the more sonically challenging songs and putting them out as bsides/rsd tracks instead of on the albums. I think it should be the other way around.

However, I will say that Time Will Destroy Everything would have been interesting on the record.

I will give you Sugar. I think instrumentally it's almost hypnotic. I played the "Paramour" video sample over and over before the song was released.

Took a few listens...the sound is very dark, creepy, bit dancy and edgy - everything Garbage should be. Especially liked it after a few listens.

DAMN. I mean just, woah. I was not expecting that level of darkness on the new single. They had seemed to have left their darker days behind with NYKOP, but looks like the new album could be more like the self-titled than I'd thought. I was especially reminded of the self-titled by the religious references in the song. But seriously, this was one badass record store day release.

Wow, pleasantly surprised with the Siouxsie & the Banshee's Juju vibe of The Chemicals!! Very John McGeoch sounding guitars. Goth all the way. Excited :-D
P.S I've come out of hiding, like a spider crawling out of the darkness to sink it's fangs into something fresh and juicy... wishing well to all of you long-time darklings xx

If this is any indicator of what the new album is going to sound, I am more than set! This is the Garbage I had been waiting for.
Anyone knows who mastered this? Sounds so much better than anything on NYKOP master-wise.
