People are starting to share their Version 2.0 memories. What are yours? Here's a nice blog by Marco: www.garbageaddict.com/version-20-15th-birthday-released-11th-may-1998It's weird...I have very clear memories of the debut era, but nothing really specific sticks out about Version 2.0, even though it's my favorite of their albums. Just that the band was everywhere.

I had been a fan since the debut album, but when Version 2.0 came out, I really got into them. It was also when I started my collection. I'm pretty sure that album got me through high school.

I agree. I was a fan since the debut but that album got me through high school, as well. It's such an underrated classic.

I remember buying the cd at the now defunct media play chain. I was on my way to Tuesday night team trivia at hooters with fellow board member mase(sinnerg) and our friend pete. I was apprehensive when I got it because I wondered if I would like 2.0 as much as i'd liked the first cd. driving to hooters we listened to "temptation waits" and "ITIP" and I knew I didn't have to worry about whether i'd like it or not.
the thing that amazed me was when I was looking thru the cd booklet and saw my name in the "thank you" section. i'd met shirley and steve in 1996 so I thought maybe one of them put that in there. you can't imagine how crushed I was later on to find out there's an english guy with the same name as me who had done clothing and set design for garbage and kylie minouge amongst others and that's who the "thank you" was referring to. I told shirley that story in atlantic city last year and she doubled over laughing.

Aw, I remember waiting for this album with so much anticipation!
I had just turned 15, first year of high school was almost complete. Other than the debut, this is the only G album where upon getting a copy in my hands I had only heard one song. So the album as a whole (other than Push It) was all completely new to me. I sat in my room with the album playing and just sitting there flipping thru the small booklet and listening along to everything.
Instantly I fell in love with Hammering in My Head and Dumb. WIGU, Medication and Special took a while to grow on me...15 year old me wanted harder music. But I still loved them. The V2.0 tour was also the first time I saw the band live, in October. My dad took me. I saved up money so I could buy a shirt. Loved every minute of it (even though a woman next to us threw her guts up during YLSF, which I believe was the last song before the encore--she was also there with her kid about my age). Good times!
I will always love 2.0. Not only is it just a really great album, it was a big part of my childhood.

Wow, where does the time go. Sunny days out during the school holidays on the mountain bike and getting back to my friend's house where ITIP would be on the radio or Top Of The Pops.
Sigh, life was so much easier huh

To this day, Garbage is the only band that has released an album (V2.0) that was better than the ablum I fell in love with them on (self-titled).
Now, there are plenty of artists who've made better albums later in their career than the one that made them famous, but none of those artists are in my Top 10. ...which is kind of sad actually, because it means whenever you really find an album that changes your world, most likely, that artist is never going to make an album that good again.
But the point is that Garbage did something special with V2.0.

I fell in love and I discovered Garbage because of BG: Androgyny and Cherry Lips. Version 2.0 is my third favorite album after BG and debut.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what would you say are your favorite 6 songs off BG? Just curious if your favorites are the same as mine or not.

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but I'm gonna put my 2 cents in anyway. BG is a weird album for me, because it contains some of my least favorite Garbage tracks, but also a few of my all time favorites. I really dislike "Shut Your Mouth" and "Androgyny", and I can barely tolerate "Cherry Lips", which are probably the 3 most recognizable tracks from that album. But I absolutely love "Silence Is Golden", "Drive You Home", "So Like a Rose" and "Parade". So I probably listen to BG the least of all Garbage albums - I kind of have to force myself to put it on - but when I do, I always end up enjoying it. Weird. ;D

For BG
I'd go with
1) Shut Your Mouth - great guitar! 2) Cherry Lips 3) Androgyny 4) Breaking Up The Girl
The rest are about even for me. Great underrated album. Sweet artwork.

1. Cherry Lips (The song of my life EVER) 2. Androgyny (the song that got me into Garbage) 3. Breaking up the girl 4. Drive You Home 5. Cup of Coffee 6. Silence is Golden BG is my least favorite album, so i thought I'd compare your list with mine, for whatever that's worth. 1. Breaking Up the Girl 2. Parade 3. Til the Day I Die 4. Cherry Lips 5. Silence Is Golden 6. Drive You Home A big difference between us is the #2 slot. Androgyny is much better live than the neutered version we get on the album, IMO (except for the bridge). Also, Parade is one of my favorite Garbage songs ever (I really like some of the other songs on BG, obviously...but not nearly as much as BUTG and Parade), and it's in the bottom half of the album for you. You're also really into the ballads, whereas I like the ballads on every other Garbage album better, though Drive You Home did make it into my top-half list, barely. Anyway, thanks for the reply.
