I almost posted this in the General Topics section but decided on posting it here instead. If a mod feels differently then please move this to the appropriate place.
I'm a Christian myself (but a very open minded one--and trust me, I know there are tons of Christians out there who are so bigoted and full of hatred towards those they see as unfit...that's not me...I'm accepting of everyone and everything, period) but this question is actually geared towards people of all faiths.
I've been obsessed with Garbage since 95 when I was about 12. One thing that has always bugged me even today is the song As Heaven is Wide. I looove the song itself, but I feel like I'm committing some kind of sacrilege when listening to it because of some of the lyrics. I know that might sound kind of silly to some...please don't make fun! Anyway, I guess I'm partially wanting to see if I'm the only fan who has had some issues with the song...and also if anyone has advise or different interpretations of the song to help me get over it and actually be able to enjoy it without feeling like its somehow conflicting with my belief system. Because its an awesome song with a pretty killer beat...but I've just never really been able to fully enjoy it I guess because of a few of the lyrics.
And again please don't judge or mock me about it. I realize it might sound strange but I'm seriously asking.

The lyrics are someone elses words.
Think of it that way if it bothers you that much. I can sing rap songs with homophobic lyrics, or mysogynistic lyrics with no problem, I might not agree but thats not the point.

We won't mock you. I think that we are generally a pretty understanding bunch around these parts.
A couple of things to keep in mind: -As Heaven is Wide has metaphorical lyrics. The song is about having someone destructive in your life, and you wanting to escape them. It's not literally saying to run away from god. The lyrics "If holy is as holy does, this house will burn straight down to hell" are about hypocrisy, not about religion. -Enjoying a piece of fiction isn't necessarily a reflection of yourself. Just because you like it on some level doesn't mean that you share the creator's morality, or that you agree with the creator's intent.
FYI, I'm an atheist. I don't think it matters, but you may find it relevant.

As I said I do like the song, I've just been keeping myself from enjoying it because of my religion. Which I know is weird but whatever. Anyway though thank you

I agree with Xalazi's comments. It's a song about wanting to escape something you can't get away from. It shouldn't be seen as a sacrilegious, they are using religion and God as a metaphor due to the idea you can never get away from God.

I don't think the song is about religion. I guess the feeling of the song explains the anger that comes from impotence in the face of someone who's damaged you. You feel like there's no justice, there's no god, because it's not fair, and therefore you start questioning many things. It's got to do with disillusionment and angst, and to achieve that, it uses really strong metaphores. She's angry with the person that damaged her, maybe she's angry with god too. I like to see it this way: Osho said that even when you're angry with god and you start questioning its existence you are having a relationship with god.
