Garbage: A Stroke Of Luck --- I love all the songs but I remember in an episode of "Charmed", there was some cheesy villain that would hypnotize one of the Halliwell sisters with this song and in turn made the song kind of cheesy too. However, I haven't seen the episode in years so the song is not really tainted anymore. Version 2.0: When I Grow Up --- I think it's the least of all the singles from this album but I still enjoy it. Beautifulgarbage: So Like A Rose --- I know this song has a wealth of fans but I never cared much for it ---- until recently - it just kinda clicked with me but is still my least favorite. I know a lot of people hate "Untouchable" because it's cheesy but that's why I love it. It's Garbage campiness. Bleed Like Me: It's a toss between Sex Is Not The Enemy, WDYCO and Happy Home --- there are parts I like in each song but none grab me completely. Not Your Kind Of People Standard: Battle in Me --- I really loved it at first and now that I've heard the whole album, it's the weakest link to me. B-side: Betcha, I know it's mocking Pussycat Dolls but to these ears, it sounds like a poor man's Peaches song. So poor that even cunt has been censored. Too bad because I love some of the music in it. P.S. And I am so happy to finally be a Sanitation Engineer - being a janitor and trash man sucked. LOL Posting all those reviews paid off!

I've got to defend Can't Cry These Tears!!!! Love that song, it gets far too much hate lol! I do too! I love how it starts with the '50s vibe and morphs into darker Garbage territory at the end, "it's time to settle the score" and you know when Shirley settles the score - you better watch out. I like to put this one before "Bad Boyfriend" when making a Garbage mix CD sometimes. That song has a similar line that does not seem too threatening on paper but the way Shirley delivers "I'm saving something special for the very end" - well, it sounds kinda deadly. She stings like a bee!

oh, wow... hm. fun topic. but hard! very interesting seeing everyone's (quite varied!) opinions, though. Garbage: void genuinely could not name a least favourite track from the debut. love the album as a whole. always have, always will. Version 2.0: Wicked WaysI'm not as hot on V2.0 as most - G and BLM are my two favourite Garbage albums. the other three kinda nestle snugly in a pile underneath. WW is probably the most throwaway track for me on 'the orange album'. beautifulgarbage: Can't Cry These Tearsyeah... sorry to join the torch-bearers (well, I'm not, but... there y'go), but CCTT has only ever seemed like filler. which is odd for a track that's third on the album. but then BG always was the 'batshit crazy' Garbage album. Bleed Like Me: Why Don't You Come Overtoughie, because as afore-mentioned, lotta love here for BLM. it was either this or Boys Wanna Fight, if only because the album kinda falters a little (littlelittlelittle) at tracks nine and ten, before climbing a straight vertical and closing out with what is one of the strongest tracks on any Garbage album in Happy Home. it's possibly the contrast that jars me. Not Your Kind Of People: Beloved Freakok, I'll be honest... I'm well aware it has its fans, an' all, but from where I'm standing... BF is fucking dreadful. horribly trite and ridiculously cliched lyrics, musically bland for the most part, and that godawful sunday school ripoff refrain to close it out. yeah... not a fan. b (g?) side: ...probably I'm Really Into TechnoI'm quite the fan of G's b-sides, for the most part. IRIT is the kinda track that just always seemed tacked on to make up the numbers - something one (or all) of the boys was just dicking about with in the studio and thought "eh, that'll do for a b-side". overall: honestly, probably Beloved FreakI really, really don't like this song. one of the main issues I have with the most recent album is that I find Shirley's lyrics to be weak as hell. one reason I haven't posted a review/my thoughts on NYKOP (aside from simply not being arsed), is that I wouldn't want it to just turn into a rant on my issues with what I can't help but see as Ms Manson's lyrical impotence. that said, I do like the album, for the most part. good thread, Bich!

Garbage - Dog New Tricks (I really love each song on this album though.) Version 2.0 - Wicked Ways (I love each song on this album as well, so it's my least favorite from the album but not overall in any way.) beautifulgarbage - Untouchable (I'll say it. I love Can't Cry These Tears and TTDID. I can't stand this song.) Bleed Like Me - Why Don't You Come Over (Although I enjoy singing along with this one.) Not Your Kind of People - Felt (I still have to listen to the album more to decide really.) B-Side - Confidence

Garbage - My Lover's Box or Fix Me Now. I've always thought Fix Me Now was a weak song, but the end of My Lover's Box has me reaching for the skip button quite often. Version 2.0 - When I Grow Up. Not necessarily a bad song but along with Special, it just seems to make the first half of the album a bit too poppy. Beautiful Garbage - Androgyny. I'd gladly choose Untouchable any day over this song. Bleed Like Me - Bleed Like Me. Don't really have a reason for this one, just think it's the weakest on the album :/ Not Your Kind Of People - Man on a Wire. This will probably change in a few months, but not feeling this one at the moment. B-sides - I'm Really Into Techno. If I had to pick another one that's a bit longer it would probably be Candy Says.
Overall: Androgyny

Garbage - Fix Me Now still a great song, but the least played on my list
Version 2.0 - WIGU the image of Adam Sandler in Big Daddy still creeps in when I hear this song. Automatic skip
BG - Untouchable This is like picking the biggest turd out of the toilet. This entire CD should've been scrapped. I remember them saying back in 2001 that it was a song that sounded like Garbage merged with Destiny's Child. Yeah EPIC Fail! Least played would be So Like A Rose. Best nap I've ever had.
BLM - 3 way tie: Boys Wanna Fight, Right Between The Eyes and Bad Boyfriend. WDYCO least played. Another disc wasted.
NYKOP - Easily Beloved Freak. Should've put the title track at the end and left this for a B-side or given it to Vanessa Carlton or something.
BSide - Alien Sex Fiend If I were in the band I would make for damn sure that this never got out to the public. But it goes to show how much intoxication plays a part when making "experimental" music. Sex Never Goes Out of Fashion and I'm Really Into Techno are very close behind.

How strange that Fix Me Now should be popping up so much in this thread when that was pegged as 6th single from the debut (which of course never happened...)!!!
Totally shocked by the When I Grow Up hate. I adore it, and it's amazing live. Although maybe I'm not that surprised. I've been having a discussion in another thread about how Garbage are the forbearers of dirty, filthy, slut-pop a la Kesha, GaGa and modern day Britters, and this song is probably the best example of that...

I wouldn't call them most hated but least loved. I often found the verses to "Fix Me Now" to be some of the most beautiful Shirley has ever written:

I must admit Fix Me Now was a grower for me. I really like it these day though.
I suspect the reason it was slated for release at the time was because it's the closest thing on the debut to Stupid Girl...

I think there are certainly similarities in the balls-out, frenetic, grimy pop production to a number of their tracks, yes. Especially Kesha.

Ah okay, I just wasn't sure if I understood what you were trying to say. It's hard for me to compare Garbage songs to Kesha and Spears, maybe to Gaga. Garbage certainly has always had an electro-rock/pop sound so I do see contemporary artists being influenced by them but all I hear in Kesha and Spears songs is a beat and some synths.

That's why they are my favorite band - because they have a little of everything - rock, pop, electro, dance, even little Blondie-like raps on Shut Your Mouth and Blood For Poppies.
If someone said they weren't rock, I would argue that they were. If someone said that they weren't pop, I would argue that they were. Because they are both. Their songs are catchy as hell but they are smart. I think people are under the misperception that all pop is stupid.
And just as Shirley has dubbed her outsiders, "darklings", Gaga has named hers, "little monsters" - both appealing to the outsiders. Gaga explores similar themes that Shirley has.

I don't get why everyone hates Can't cry these tears, it's an amazing song! And so is Wicked Ways!
Garbage: Fix Me Now V2.0: When I grow up BG: Parade BLM: It's all over but the crying NYKOP: Show Me B Sides: 13X forever
Least overall: IAOBTC (terrible, why it's on Absolute Garbage is beyond me)
