Now that I've listened a few more times, I still like the end the best where she sings slower. The song isn't bad by any means, but yeah, from all the clips we've been hearing and all, this was a bit surprising. I mean, from "Dizzy In The Studio", "Pedals", "I've Got My Eye On You", and the song they have in the "Garbage is back" video, I really didn't see this one coming. It definitely has more of a BG and BLM feel to it.
I'm just not sure if it was the best choice for a first single, but hey... I'm guess I'm just trying to picture this song fitting with the others. I don't know, is it possible that some of those clips will merely just be B-sides?

Listened to it on repeat all morning and the noise and distortion makes me think if what Shirley was saying about it being about "disorientation and delusion and the human struggle to stay sane in the face of insanity". She sings it fast like all their thoughts are rushing to the front of their mind in a dizzying fit
War is noisy its confusing its an afrenaline rush - the chorus is quite upbeat could be the chacter/ protagonist is literally loosing it in the struggle to stay sane
Just some thoughts - I hope that makes some sense. It grows on you the more you hear it

When I first heard the song, it was very "meh"...I found Blood For Poppies a bit underwhelming. I figured, with Butch really taking prodution center stage (career wise) and the pre release hype of a darker industrial Garbage return, the song was disappointing.
After subsequent listens, the song has improved in standing. I feel it may be a perfect summer rock song, windows down-sunroof open. I can see radio picking the song up, it may also grow the Garbage base, as mainstream music is dominated by Katy Perry style stuff. The song is probably attractive to that audience.
As a long time era ->1995 fan, I see the song has several hints of familiarity within its basic recipe:
Shut You Mouth + Androgony + Space Can Come Through Anyone
I actually get a more No Doubt + Blondie vibe, than I do Garbage.

I feel like setting myself on fire for even saying it, but I am underwhelmed. I am craving for a revival of the first album and I heard Bleed Like Me. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not what I was expecting. However, based on the "I Hate Love" snippet that we heard from the Valentine's Day video, I have still have high hopes!!! I wonder why they didn't just go with "I Hate Love" as the first single? It seemed to go over very well with fans and even gained some good exposure.

I wonder why they didn't just go with "I Hate Love" as the first single? It seemed to go over very well with fans and even gained some good exposure. I did hear a very Beautifulgarbage + Bleed Like Me influence. It also has a pinch of Blondie's "Good Boys" spiced into the recipe. If you know that song, you'll see what I mean The logic for picking BFP as the lead single, has to do with the song being upbeat + spring season = radio success. If NYKOP as an album, is more abstract, bummer or even noir (no matter how much we may enjoy it), any other selection may not have been fitting as the lead single. As much as I dislike Avril, her "What the Hell" single was catchier than shit. The song was a late addition/selection to her album, it lacked a hit record otherwise. Garbage is now free of their former chains to the labels and they're doing things their way. I just hope if this is THE return and rightful comeback, they'll actually work to promote their album on stage and at radio. I feel 90's alt/rock is ready to comeback and if played correctly, Garbage could be the band to usher its return to music. May is sure seeming longer and longer.l.l

I love the song. I cannot stop listening to it. As you said, it is PERFECT for listening to in the car, I've been driving around LA with it on non-stop repeat. I think it is a great first single. They need something to get airplay first. They need to save the powerhouse single for the 2nd single release right before the album drops. They made the mistake of releasing WDYLM first with BLM, and it was a mistake because there was nowhere to go from there. They should have released Bad Boyfriend first, which already had buzz with Dave being on it, and then saved WDYLM for right before the album. Sadly they released that first, and then none of the other songs got much airplay. So I think this is a good choice. So damn catchy! Also, Butch said the album has the "energy" of the earlier albums, not the exact sound. This is such a great blend of upbeat and sinister that to me it is a call back to the feel of V20.

I see the song has several hints of familiarity within its basic recipe: Shut You Mouth + Androgony + Space Can Come Through Anyone Well but more depend to what kind of music you want do Katy Perry have another kind of voice and she do pop G haven't a clear type sometime is rock, sometime is more elettronic, sometime have somenthing of trip pop....etc. Of course pop sell the point is if G want be on that market all talk about begin indipendet and after search the pop style dosen't seams to be more different to what a label could be asked them About last point those are the big trouble are the only songs i dinden't liked....so i really hope the other songs are different (cross fingers) Dude I totally felt some Androgyny in there too (which I love) but was hesitant to state that comparison aloud, given some feelings about all of that. But on Androgeny there was more "order" BFP is like a strange collage. No WDYLM was perfect i don't see any bound with BFP since this last is have a sound more "dirty" like 70's song,WDYLM was a pure rock-pop song, i'm not agree who liked the singol prob liked also the other song but if BFP is so different to the other songs as you guys say prob the buyer will hate the record. Hearing that guitar sound after so long. Can't even describe it. Can't wait for the album.

I listened to the song a bunch of times again yesterday, and it's growing on me a lot. It does have that summer kind of feel to it, which is nice. I was cleaning my apartment yesterday while listening to it. It's definitely still got that "Garbage" feel to it that you can always pick out.
I'm definitely ready to hear some of that darker material though. I've always been a sucker for the darker near industrial-type stuff by the band.
As I said before, this song just really seems to stand out from the other clips, but we shall see what happens. May needs to get its slow ass here, and soon.

The more I listen to it (on my phone through headphones on train) I really like it! I can definitely see it being played on mainstream radio if people gave it a chance. The chorus gets stuck in your head.
