Dare I mention this band on the PB? I have now so...I've never really bothered with them for obvious reasons, I suppose out of loyalty to Garbage but is anyone a fan? Are they worth checking out? I quite like Chinese Burn and Hell Above Water.
For all the Garbage comparisons I always thought Come Clean (only full album I've ever heard) was a poor man's Version 2.0.

I like Curve a lot. I imagine that a lot of us Garbage fans do like Curve. Really the beef between the fan bases has been mostly one sided. Outside of a few Curve fans(the minority really) that feel like the band should have been bigger than they were, and that some how Garbage got the mainstream love that Curve didn't. Then again I wasn't around back in the day, so I can only speak for the post 2000 years. I'm sure that there were overly protective fans on both sides. But the bands respect each other, and there is not reason why we can't like both bands.
As far as the music goes, I never much cared for Come Clean either. I like Doppelgänger and Gift better. Dance just didn't fit Curve much. Overall, they produced some beautiful Dream Pop and electronica music.
And really, the comparisons between Curve and Garbage really aren't fair since the bands were going for two different things. Garbage is more diverse(specially starting BG), and overall Garbage is more of a Rock band with strong electronica influence. Curve is more of an electronica band with rock influences. When I think of Garbage I think of a band on stage. When I think of Curve I think of a studio project. There was some similarities in the first few records, but Curve would never do a record like BG or BLM.

Yes, you should bother with Curve. As has been already said, I think they are very different from Garbage when you get down to it, but they do have some superficial similarities (e.g. hot chick singer, electronics + guitars).

Come clean is also a good album! I think the last albums sound more like mature , the first ones have many sounds and makes you think they are saturated but are good ones! You made a good choice, also I strongly recommend you "Open day at the hate fest"....

You know what! I have heard a lot of Curve but I am not the biggest fan. Come Clean is their Version 2.0 and Gift sounds like it's unnecessary sequel. Doppelgänger and Cuckoo are great dreamy shoegaze records and easily their best but both sound outdated and lo-fi on my headphones, so they lack that eery atmospheric feel Garbage has. Ultimately, I never thought they were that comparable as Garbage were always somewhat of a pop band.

I do love Curve, as I love Garbage. I love them both for different reasons. If I want something a bit more dreamy / messy / dark and sexy, I go for Curve typically. Not that Garbage doesn't have those elements as well, but they're executed different. Curve seems to be a bit more dry and cold in their music... Both bands take you to a different place with their music. Sometimes, they can both put you in that dark place, but cast different elements in that dark world.
I do like Come Clean, and yes, I have to admit that I feel it and Version 2.0 are the closest thing to one another (but not by a lot at all). I don't think either band really tried to sound like the other, and that shows. Like someone stated, there was this weird protection thing among fans - this lack of openmindedness. Once you dig into the catalog of both bands, you notice a whole world of differences, with a few similarities here and there, but I mean, both bands have a lot of similar influences as well.
Doppelganger is so beautiful in a dark/very melodic way. It's almost sounds like the band is drowning sometimes under all the music, which is nice. Pubic Fruit is a combo of all their old EPs that hae a lot of that Doppelganger feel as well. The new stuff is great too, just different, more electronic, still noisy, and great in its own way.

Actually Shirley wrote about Toni Halliday: I loved Curve until the girl dissed me so bad at one of our shows in London that I guess after that...not so much.

I'm a big Curve fan. Favorite albums: Doppelganger, Come Clean, Gift, The New Adventures of Curve. Favorite song: Faît Accompli. The only thing that makes me sad is that there are very few bootlegs (audio & video) with this band. I asked Dean Garcia (the other member of Curve, along Toni Halliday) through e-mail if they recorded some shows. Unfortunately they recorded only one show in Manchester but the masters are lost. I like Curve a lot. I imagine that a lot of us Garbage fans do like Curve. Really the beef between the fan bases has been mostly one sided. Outside of a few Curve fans(the minority really) that feel like the band should have been bigger than they were, and that some how Garbage got the mainstream love that Curve didn't.[...] A lot of Curve fans are angry because Garbage were/are more successful. They said that Garbage stole the formula from Curve and made it more accessible. Of course that's not true. cool thanks guys - i've bought Doppleganger and Gift as from what I've read they are the better albums (as I said I was never keen on Come Clean) Try also the double CD compilation The Way of Curve. Worth the money. @andrea111292: A source?

I like both Garbage and Curve very much. I first was aware of Garbage when I saw them on MTV in 1996 though did not really discover Curve until 2005 which I then fell head over heals for them as well. Both bands have strong female leads with dark/layered sounds. I'd say Garbage is aiming to make a pop song most of the time while Curve, which also makes pop songs, seems more focused on creating darker, atmospheric, and industrial songs. . . which I like quite a bit.
I dislike that there are some Curve fans who jump all over Garbage and accuse them of stealing Curve's thunder, I think Garbage was influenced by Curve though I think they were also influenced by another 10-15 groups as well. To say one is more talented then the other is laughable, each are equally talented though the music is just different and the circumstance for which they became known to the public.
Unfortunately back in the day (and still to this day) the media gives more coverage to groups with female leads that have a lot of charisma, good looking, are loud, and opinionated. Toni Halliday seemed to be more of a private person and didn't really relish talking to the media/press as well as overtly putting herself out there.
Both Toni and Dean are still making music under different projects so I hope one day they return as a duo.

I love Curve. First heard them a little while before Garbage appeared, so I did start off with some feelings of them being a bit of a rip-off. The comparisons are fairly superficial though, and I actually grew to like Garbage a lot more. Come Clean is probably one of Curve's weakest albums - it didn't really suit their style, and was a failure compared to Cuckoo and Doppleganger. The more recent albums were pretty good in places, but never really hit the mark again. I'd echo the previous suggestion of the The Way of Curve. It's a great compilation - double disc, with remixes and b-sides. If you like Curve already, do check out SPC ECO - Dean's current project with a different singer. spceco.bandcamp.com/

Yeah, maybe failure was too strong a word. In my opinion though it's their weakest release. A quick look at Wikipedia suggests that it did well commercially so that makes my choice of words sound even more unsuitable.
