Seen it? Want to see it? Opinions?
Saw it last week, aesthetically its a benchmark its stunning can't fault it for that BUT (this is a crucial but) - it had no story whatsoever.
It was Ferngully:The Last Rainforest recycled for the noughties.
I desperately wanted to love it but I could not ignore the fact it had no storyline.
Yet most critics esp in the UK have completely ignored this - so many film publications I read that have slated fims like this in the past for the very reason I'm criticising it, think its wonderful
I don't think it desrves all the accolades its getting... Your thoughts...

I saw it. It was entertaining but like you said it has been done before: The first time it was done was by Disney. At that time it was called Pocahontas.

Yes its Pocahontas aswell, so many stories churned into one and without a glimmer of originality

I had no interest in seeing it but my friend needed someone to go with so I went. It was alright, went for longer than it needed to. Visually it was amazing but to me that's the only thing that set it apart from other films. Otherwise it was nothing special about it. Just another James Cameron film a lot of people went ape shit over and I didn't.

Watched it with friends as well and i ended up being the only one not blown away by it. I thought it was alright, had fun watching it but thats it. Also, i couldnt help but think of the Alien Quadrilogy (my fav films of all time) everytime Sigourney was on screen

For me everytime Sigourney was on screen I thought of French and Saunder's Alien spoof and Fast Forward's Alien spoof from when I was a kid. Kept me amused.
Read they're planning two sequels. Too bad it won't be like Pocahontas 2 and go directly to dvd.

I think they should move on and use the technology they've developed to do new things instead of stretching something like that out even more.

CGI was great but ... that was the only thing good about the movie. Those who hadn't seen a 3D movie at the cinemas before would've enjoyed it even more. Overall, it was kind of overrated in my opinion!

I would say an earlier predecessor would be Kevin Costner's Dances with Wolves Watched it with friends as well and i ended up being the only one not blown away by it. I thought it was alright, had fun watching it but thats it. Also, i couldnt help but think of the Alien Quadrilogy (my fav films of all time) everytime Sigourney was on screen i LOVE those movies. Favorites of mine, as well. I'm interested (yet cynical) about what they'll do with the prequel. I'm glad they're getting back to this series, rather than another craptacular aliens vs predators movie. Are you a fan of the Ghostbusters movies? She'll be starring in the third installment before too long. Anyway, I have yet to see Avater but look forward to it.

Here is one: November of 1953: Captain John Smith and Pocahontas www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi2694906393/Try and watch that all the way through. lol I couldn't even make it through the opening credits. Haha!

So glad Avatar didn't win best picture or director. I'm cool with it getting the ards for the more technical and design aspects of movies, but otherwise it didn't deserve more than it got.

Ok ... so since day one with all the publicity I thought .. Im effin boicoting this movie!!!
Then some people watched it and they said twas ok ... then a friend had one of those burned dvds and i thought .. im still not payin so lets watch ...
Halfway thru the movie I knew how it wud end EVERYTHING is highly derivative NOTHING I saw was a true original like ... biologically .. well maybe the braid thingies ...and then .. the story was boring ... still I developed the biggest crush on Sam Worthington so it wasnt a complete loss ..
I saw the Hurt Locker a while ago .. I generally dont like war movies ... except for Apocalypse now and the HBO ones, The thin red line and then Letters from Iwo Jima and the other one from whats hi name ...
THL is exciting ... it truly is .. and beautifully shot ... I love how when they accepted the Oscar for best movie they bragged about no focus groups and sh*t like that ... you cud see a point of view ... I loved it!
