the prolific writer-director died yesterday of a heart attack at 59. anyone my age(39) must have seen one of the movies he wrote and/or directed during their teen years. "national lampoon's vacation", "breakfast club", "sixteen candles", "weird science", "ferris buellers' day off", "planes, trains & automobiles" and "home alone". that's a helluva resume. shermer, illinois is now closed.

I was *just* too young to catch his movies when they were at their peak of pop-culture, although I remember seeing Planes, Trains & Autos and obv Home Alone.
