I think my lovers box deserves an appreciation thread! This song is just WOW from the music to Shirleys lyrics. What do you think about the song?

You know I think it's one song I sort of overlooked. I've always liked it, but for whatever reason it got overshadowed by all the other great songs (ranks as #8 for me on that album, ahead of OHWIR, SG and DNT in that order). I don't think I've actually read all the lyrics until just now - they're actually quite good and a nice, cohesive work.

Great tune but when I try to play it there are a couple chords that are just a BITCH! I hate that Ebmaj7 and the Csus2 god I hate those chords.

I love the lilt in Shirley's voice when she sings "bed"....."end..."dead". Also Steve's guitar riff before the lyrics kick in and at the bridge is pretty cool.

Always thought it was overlooked. Some of their lyrics off G. I never understood why they didn't play it on the BLM tour.

Just about to say that! That's why I would've loved to see it played on the BLM tour. Maybe they got fed up or bored with the song?

They stopped playing the song in February 1999. A shame because the song is mazing! I love hearing different live versions when Shirley messes around with the pacing, arrangement and key while singing the outro.

It used to be one of my favorite G songs, and I still really do enjoy it. I think it's really catchy, dark, melodic, beautiful, but still rough at the same time. There's a lot going on in that song that people don't always catch. There is a lot of layering, weird notes, and melodies that are floating around in this song that you don't always notice on the first listen. The chorus is fucking groovy and flows so well throughout the whole song; even when the song gets all loud and crazy at the end.
With that being said, I wish they still played this song live.

When they did it live, Shirley always brought out the guitar, which was cool. Not that she seemed to do much with it other than look hot.
In my mind I always thought it would have made a cool video. Similar to "Vow" with the boys playing, but maybe with Shirley acting out the more literal aspect of the lyrics pulling out a shoebox from under her bed or sort of vamping in a something similar to a small room.

akways loved this song - think it woulda sounded awesome on the BLM tour - revamped like they did with Queer. Love the lyrics, the melodies, love it when it gets loud at the end!!
Incidentally with regards what reneeccski said I think my ordering of fav tracks from the debut goes: 1.Supervixen 2.Vow 3.Only Happy.... 4.Queer 5. Milk 6. Stupid Girl 7. Fix Me Now 8. My Lover's Box 9. As Heaven Is Wide 10. Not My Idea 11. A Stroke of Luck 12. Dog New Tricks
Should be noted I listen to the first 10 tracks pretty heavily the last 2 not so much and the last 2 are not on my current top 40 playlist on my Mp3player.

My Lover's Box is my favourite track off of the self-titled album and my 5th favourite Garbage song overall! I freaking love the build-up of white noise at the end of the track and Shirley is such a badass when she performs this one live! The guitar riffs throughout the song are some of the most rocking riffs Garbage has ever written and the whole thing is total headbang material.

Yes really powerful song, and can't wait to hear this played live in November.
