Damn, I was on holidays so I couldn't post the news in the end!
'Battle For The Sun' is really impressive song. My hopes of a great song have been met. Definetly heavier than most of what they have done before!

Yeah, It's a huge heavy sound. Something a Placebo single has never seen. Closest would be 'The Bitter End'. I can't download it, the link won't work.

Not content to let new bands hog the eyeliner, Placebo have announced the release of their sixth album, Battle for the Sun. The "optimistic" and "positive" LP will be released on 8 June. "We've made a record about choosing life, and choosing to live, about stepping out of the darkness and into the light," frontman Brian Molko told NME. www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/mar/17/placebo-album-battle-for-the-sunTo capture all this cheeriness, the band travelled to beautiful, sunny, er, Toronto, recording with Dave Bottrill, producer of Tool's Lateralus. The album was mixed by Alan Moulder, who has worked with My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins. Battle for the Sun is Placebo's first album since parting ways with Steve Hewitt, their drummer of 11 years. They now have a 22-year-old Californian named Steve Forrest in charge of hitting things. The band have also left their long-time label, Virgin Records, self-funding the album and releasing it in an independent deal with Pias. "I'm very optimistic about the future," Molko said. "I'm in a positive frame of mind and a good headspace." Indeed, instead of sulking in his bedroom, Molko and his bandmates are busily autographing box sets. Deluxe £70 editions of Battle for the Sun are now available for pre-order, with the first 500 buyers receiving signed copies. The set also includes a live CD, a DVD of last year's performance at Angkor Wat, a making-of DVD, vinyl LP, and two books. Five random "golden tickets" will also be available, entitling one person from each continent to a "VIP day" with Placebo. Of course, despite the sunny album title, Molko is still a lover of shadows. "[Darkness is] a part of who you are," he said, "but [this album] is about the choice of standing in the sunlight instead." This last comment proved reassuring to Placebo's cheerleaders. "I'm glad Brian's in a good frame of mind," commented a fan called beady_eyed_girl. "But I'm also glad that he mentioned that the darkness is [essential] ... sometimes when people seem happier, they forget completely about the darkness and think the world is all flowers and stuff, which is annoying."

www.rocksound.tv/news/article/placebo-take-on-the-sun"Placebo have unveiled details of their new album ‘Battle For The Sun’. At an exclusive secret gig held last night in London, Brian Molko and co played a number of new songs from the album including the tracks ‘Ashtray Heart’, ‘Julian’, ‘Kitty Litter’, and ‘Devil’s In The Details’. They also covered Nik Kershaw’s 84 hit ‘Wouldn’t It Be Good’. Frontman Brian Molko told Rock Sound: “We’re very excited about the new album, and my favourite track is ‘Speaking In Tongues’, but don’t let that influence you!” Rock Sound reckons the new album is a heavier-sounding record compared to its predecessor ‘Meds’ and is a return to the earlier sounds from ‘Without You I’m Nothing’. There are also string arrangements present on the new tracks that give it a more experimental and epic direction." I just copied these words from the Rock Sound website that i accidently came across. Is this true that they played a secret gig? if it is I can't believe they covered Nik Kershaw

Placebo announce full album tracklisting Brian has explained the thinking behind the collection, as well as the tracklisting.
Molko said: "I believe 'Battle' to be the first of our albums to tell a story over the course of its 52 minutes. Our previous releases were really only collections of songs and even though the songs are ordered according to the musical flow, I hope that if you listen hard enough to the words that some kind of discernible thematic unity will begin to emerge."
The tracklisting is:
'Kitty Litter' 'Ashtray Heart' 'Battle For The Sun' 'For What It’s Worth' 'Devil In The Details' 'Bright Lights' 'Speak In Tongues' 'The Never-Ending Why' 'Julien' 'Happy You're Gone' 'Breathe Underwater' 'Come Undone' ‘Kings Of Medicine’

I just hope this cd is good, I'm getting a little skeptical

It's funny because when they released those studio feeds a while back, there was a picture of 'Kitty Litter' amongst them.
And 'Ashtray Heart' cannot be a coincidence ...
