Obama Rally Draws 100,000 in Missouri
Amy Chozick reports on the presidential race from St. Louis. Barack Obama attracted 100,000 people at a Saturday rally here, his biggest crowd ever at a U.S. event. The crowd assembled under the Gateway Arch on a sunny Saturday afternoon to hear Obama speak about taxes and slam the Republicans on economic issues. Lt. Samuel Dotson of the St. Louis Police Department confirmed the number of attendees piled into the grassy lawn by the Mississippi River. To be sure, big crowds don’t always signal a big turnout on Election Day. But Obama’s ability to draw his largest audience yet in a typically red state that just weeks ago looked out of reach, could signal a changing electoral map. For months Missouri polls put Obama as much as ten percentage points behind Republican John McCain. It was widely believed that McCain’s pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate would have won over the state’s conservatives and boosted his chances there. So far, that hasn’t happened. A Rasmussen poll released on Friday shows Obama leading in Missouri 52% to 46% for McCain. Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill had harsh words for Palin when she introduced Obama on Saturday. Referring to comments Palin made earlier this week in North Carolina about “pro-America” states, McCaskill said “We have reached a new low in America politics when a candidate dares to say that one part of America is pro-America and another part is anti-America.” She also took a dig at McCain for selecting a vice presidential nominee with limited experience. “One [candidate] picked one of the strongest candidates for vice president he could’ve picked in the United States and well, the other didn’t.” Recognizing that big rallies don’t always result in cast ballots, the Obama campaign has dispatched thousands of field organizers and volunteers to Missouri to knock on doors in a statewide get out the vote effort. (Photo: Associated Press) Aside from the bashing words about McCain and Palin I want to give my congrats to Obama and all you here. In my home state he has a huge following. I stayed clear of downtown while this was happening but I did help a few people get to the metrolink station that couldn't find it while I was at the gas station filling up. Again, congrats to all that support Obama. I can always appreciate a hard fought campaign. He, and you all, deserve the win.

Ashley Todd Fake "Mutilation" ExposedA McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B" scratched on her face in what she had said was a politically inspired attack, police said Friday.
Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false, said Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department's investigations division. Todd was charged with making a false report to police, and Bryant said police doubted her story from the start.
Dressed in an orange hooded sweat shirt, Todd left police headquarters in handcuffs late Friday and did not respond to questions from reporters. The mark on her face was faded and her left eye was slightly blackened when she arrived in district court.
Todd was awaiting arraignment Friday on the misdemeanor false-report charge, which is punishable by up to two years in prison. She will be housed in a mental health unit at the county jail for her safety and because of "her not insignificant mental health issues," prosecutor Mark Tranquilli said.
Todd initially told investigators she was attempting to use a bank branch ATM on Wednesday night when a 6-foot-4 black man approached her from behind, put a knife blade to her throat and demanded money. She told police she handed the assailant $60 and walked away.
Todd, who is white, told investigators she suspected the man then noticed a John McCain sticker on her car. She said the man punched her in the back of the head, knocked her to the ground and scratched a backward letter "B" into her face with a dull knife.
Police said Todd claimed the man told her that he was going to "teach her a lesson" for supporting the Republican presidential candidate, and that she was going to become a supporter of Democratic candidate Barack Obama.
Todd told police she didn't seek medical attention, but instead went to a friend's apartment nearby and called police about 45 minutes later.
Todd could provide no explanation for why she invented the story, police said. The woman told investigators she believes she cut the "B" onto her own cheek, but did not provide an explanation of how or why and said she doesn't remember doing so, police said.
Police said the woman reported suffering from "mental problems" in the past, and that they do not believe anyone put her up to the act.
Tranquilli said Todd will remain jailed over the weekend pending a psychiatric evaluation, which won't happen until Monday at the earliest.
The Associated Press could not immediately locate Todd's family.
Bryant said somebody charged with making a false report would typically be cited and sent a summons. But because police have concerns about Todd's mental health, they are consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney.
Todd worked in New York for the College Republican National Committee before moving two weeks ago to Pennsylvania, where her duties included recruiting college students, the committee's executive director, Ethan Eilon, has said.
"We are as upset as anyone to learn of her deceit, Ashley must take full responsibility for her actions," College Republican National Committee spokeswoman Ashley Barbera said in a statement.
Police reported Todd's claims Thursday, as a photo of her injuries made it onto numerous blogs and news sites. By Friday, police said they had found inconsistencies in Todd's story. They gave her a lie-detector test, but wouldn't release the polygraph results.
Police interviewed Todd after she contacted police Wednesday night and again on Thursday, Bryant said. They asked her to come back Friday, ostensibly to help police put together a sketch of the man. Instead, detectives began interviewing her.
"They just started talking to her and she just opened up and said she wanted to tell the truth," Bryant said.
Police suspected all along that Todd might not be telling the truth, starting with the fact that the "B" was backward, Bryant said.
"We have robbers here in Pittsburgh, but they don't generally mutilate someone's face like that," Bryant said. "They just take the money and run."

I'm curious what the "B" stands for. Bitch? Breakfast? Bjork? Barack?
She should have finished the job and sliced an "O" into her other cheek. But then people would have probably confused it for "body odor". How horrible would it be for your initials to be B.O.?

I have a question. When did being ignorant and scared of anything different mean you were a "real American"? Obama is probably going to be killed by a "real American" if he wins because Faux News and talk radio have all the "real Americans" scared that a Commie Muslim will soon be in the White House. And to answer the question I know tnc will ask, no, I don't have a hammer and sickle tattoo. At least not yet. Maybe when Brother Hussein becomes President I'll get a hammer and sickle tattoo along with an Islamic Star and Crescent tattoo in his honor. And maybe I'm just jerking your chain because I'm a smartass. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what I am. I probably shouldn't joke like that in this poisonous atmosphere. I could find myself lynched by some "real Americans".

Is someone going back and deleting posts? Because I feel like I may have missed some things. There is no reason for things to get personal at ALL here. I've said many times before....everyone (mostly) on this board are some of the coolest people I've met on the 'internets'. I'd gladly sit around and have a beer with any of you. (and definitely hit on the remarkable women here). This is just a very passionate election, and I'm glad it's almost over. I've gone a bit further than I normally would have, simply because I think the truth is, Obama is a decent guy overall (he's not perfect by any means, and he's said so). After the last 8 years we've been thru, I am determined to not get fooled again by some of the things the GOP will try to pull off just to win an election. As Americans, I think we've lost a sense of reason when it comes to politics and common ground. We have GOT to remember the things we have in common.

Not sure if this was directed toward me but I haven't changed my posts. Like I said, I have never attacked Obama personally before. I think it is in my best interest to take a look at the dealings that ALL candidates have been involved in and nothing is out of bounds when I am looking at the issues that involve me and the people I care for. There is nothing wrong with being cautious and I must say that not enough people question Obama. I still have no idea what he has accomplished in his little time in the senate. He has voted his party line 97% of the time. 3% against his party. I know what his party is for and I disagree with almost all of it and he disagrees only 3% of the time. Its really a no-brainer for me at this point.

except that's the exact opposite of what Obama's plan is. Exactly! We don't believe him. Obama has said since the primaries that he is giving the middle class a tax cut, and rolling back the Bush tax cuts for coporations and the wealthy. Do you guys just make shit up, or do you watch Fox News for 10 minutes a day for your information?

With all this bail out shit they have done you think the middle class is going to get a tax cut? Hell no the only way that is getting paid off is with tax increases. Use your head we will talk in a year. Hundereds of BILLIONS gotta come from somewhere.

Either cadidate will have to find a way to budget around that bailout. It's supposed to be "paid back" by the financial institutions that receive the bailout money. Obama has said on a daily basis for months, he will give the middle class a tax cut, and those earning over $250,000 will go from 36% to 39% (which is what is was during the Clinton administration) in order to make up the difference. McCain has no clue when it comes to the economy, as he's proven in the last 2 months. All he can do is accuse Obama of "socialism" and talk about Joe the Plumber. www.obamataxcut.com

That tax cut drops every time they mention it. It started at 250 then went to 200 then 150 by the time it happens if it ever will it will be 42. I am not going to judge him until after his first FULL year in office. Campain words are alll just BULLSHIT lets see what happens. Although he will have an easier time getting things passed cause it looks as if the DEMS are going to have a majority.
Sadly our government is flawed in the fact that if they manage to pass something to help the working man. It gets stuffed full of crap and earmarks. This goes for REP and DEMS. The ONLY thing our government can agree on is a RAISE for itself.
Volk you know as well as I do that most of that bailout money for the banks wont get paid back. I wish it would but it wont. Its going to get pissed away on crap. I hate the fact that companies can literally spend themselves into bankruptcy and we have to bail them out. I say FUCK EM. You crashed your company deal with it. But the ecomony doesnt work that way.
