Kate Moss with a red wig. Jennifer Jason Leigh is a hugely talented actress though.

Kate Moss with a red wig. Jennifer Jason Leigh is a hugely talented actress though. At least Kate is british. I'd rather kill myself than see yet another American actor/actress putting on an awful British accent. (pet hate, british actors should stop moving to the US and putting on awful American accents too... did anyone manage to watch the whole of Big Fish without cringing? Practically the entire cast was British, all with ropey southern US accents!)

Did you see that Godawful "Lost in Translation" How pretentious was that? Best Screenplay Oscar? Give me a friggin break. Imagine all the talented writers working for a pittance in Hollywood watching this vapid bore scooping the big award. And Julia Roberts on $20 million a picture. Bull!

Bull! I think it's either one of those movies you love or hate. Sirin and I have always had this... obsession with the far east, which helped. That asside, I really loved this movie. It wasn't overblown, it wasn't trying to be "bigger", it wasn't trying to make a statement. It was a simple sweet movie. Do you think the amount of money spent on on a movie makes for a better film? I dont. It comes down to the story, and the actors. If you want to spend $150,000,000 on making a huge movie (Matrix Reloaded for example), so be it. But if the story sucks it's nothing more than eye candy. I wouldn't read too much into the Oscars anyway - they are hardly a judge of quality. There were some good movies up for awards this year (Mystic River et al), but they weren't exactly unique IMO... yes they were brilliantly acted, with amazing scripts... but it wasn't anything *new*. Hollywood has become so stagnated. There seem to be three classes of film. "Epics" with massive money spent on effects and wow-factor; fun but hardly meaningful. Then there are big name thrillers, where they have a big enough budget to get Hollywood stars. They tend to be forumula movies, or remakes of foreign movies or books. They cant afford to release bum movies and damange their stars' reputations, so they rarely involve anything that the audience will have a problem swallowing. Then there are the zero money movies, with little known writers and directors, who sometimes driven by the simple constrains of their budgets to produce something far more simple - story driven. Most people like the middle of those three types of film, and will happily sit through the FX movies too. Not so many people like the smaller movies, because the storys are so small they seem relatively obsessive (they are, because real life is).

I thought this too. She has a similar angelic face to Shirleys, cept the chin.
I thought the same thing, be can she act?
Actually, I come to find out you aren't the only one who feels this way. I was just reading a little snippet in the Washington Post totally dissing her..because her Daddy is behind her sucess
Boo hiss on you!!! Not all are bad. Gwenyth Paltrow pulls off an English accent pretty darn good in my opinion. Oh, and I'd say Ryan Phillipe's accent in Gosford park is near perfect. Colin Farrell does a mean Brooklyn accent (he's Irish though) And Ewan sounded great in Big Fish, and don't you mess with Helana Boham Carter she can do anything!!!

I think Uma Thurman resembles Shirley sometimes, plus she's one of the coolest and most versatile actresses around today, so I think she could pull it off.

Mulholland Drive lost the Oscar to A Beautiful Mind a few years ago. How sad is that?
An extraordinary, intricate, sexy, sometimes bizarrely comedic, CLEVER picture lost to perhaps the biggest steaming piece of sugar-coated neat&tidy schizofrenia-ain't-that-bad shit Hollywood has ever produced. The only good thing about that movie was Ms. Conelly, and even she looked bored in it.
I lost faith in the Academy a long time ago... and this year, Lord Of The Rings won all those awards... don't get me started on THEM...

They would have to use those camera tricks they used in Lord of the rings with Ian as Gandolf... except in reverse so Uma will be cut down to size...

My vote to play Shirley would go to Juliette Lewis. I KNOW they look nothing alike but she is such a good actress. I think she could do it and she also fronts a band. She kicks ass.
