YES, My first Garbage concert...
My GF (Garbge315) is in love with this band and when she heard of the news they were goin to play in L.A., We had tickets. Showed up @ the El Rey 4/10/12 approx. 1pm. met up with Dan, got in line and started our day of laughs. A few hours into the day I started to learn that Garbage fans are a bit different in many ways than ANY other fans of ANY other concerts I've seen. They were all sharing stories of previous shows and sightings of the band members, talking hopes of next shows and ticket grabbing. I looked around and took notice that Garbage reaches fans of ALL ages. I met a guy that nite (Chaz) that was there with his Mom, AWESOME!
Now when I say this that these fans are different, its good! A few short moments before showtime a Man and his Wife lost their tickets....NO HESITATION! People were out of their spots in line, helping them find their tickets, success tickets were found! They let Us into the El Rey, there was a first act but since this is a Garbage post no need for that here ;p. My GF and I got spots right up against the railing in front of Duke.
Shortly before the show starts We got a shot @ Dave Grohl walking past Us to the balcony section. When this show starts let Me tell you the people were hyped up! Shirley came out stunning! The Men of the band were very well dressed. This concert was just amazing I knew all of the songs which made me feel a bit better, I was feeling a lil outta place, not my music. Shirley started and the El Rey exploded, the music was great, awesome and then... sometime during 'Queer' Shirley lost some of her lyrics, that was entertaining no one boo'd her for it, everyone just 'lol' and the band restarted, enjoyable by all.
The concert kept going on I started to realize that I not only knew the songs but enjoyed the music and the people I was around. 'Blood for Poppies' was played(THIS is the song that got me to listen to Garbage again) from off of the new upcoming album! SUPER EXCITED! The longer the concert went on, the more the energy grew and with the El Rey as small as it is..any more energy the roof would've came off! After this point I couldn't tell you what songs they played I was singing having a good time to much to tell, lol.
Then the end came, /sad. I had been chatting with security at the end of the show, see if I could get him to get me the playlist from that nite.WAS NOT HAPPENING, but I did eyeball Steve's yellow pick he threw mid stage at the end of the show, I was fortunate enough to get that(SCORE!). Soon after security made everyone leave the El Rey. We stood outside as it began to rain waiting for Garbage to come out, about half an hour later We spot Mr. Butch Vig if no one has ever met this guy you are missing out. This by far has to be the nicest man I have EVER met in my life. Fans got to him asking for autographs, he had a woman with him commenting that if They didn't get out of there a car of theirs would be towed away(I doubt the Garbage fans would let that happen tbh) I had to make my comment to him..This was my first Garbage concert and how My GF just LOVES them (Garbage), if He would take a moment to take a picture with Her.(See My Garbge315 She LOVES this band if I can help Her get some more SWAG I was all for it.) Mr. Butch Vig was HAPPY to take this picture with her and that woman He was with congrats me on my first concert to see them, and then I was asked to take a pic with Butch too. AGAIN This Man is the nicest person I've met!
A few short moments after our farewell to Mr. Butch Vig, Duke came walking out to the front of the El Rey, and yes again fans got to him asking for autographs, and yes again I HAD to tell the man about my first Garbage concert, and ask him to take a pic with My GF and to sign my ticket like He had done with Hers(earlier in the day as Garbge315 was on her way back to the line she 'bumped' into Duke on the street and He signed Her ticket) Duke remembered this and did indeed sign my ticket too! Fifteen minutes later out came Steve in a huge rush, before I could let that man leave I yelled out to him that My GF has his pick and if He could initial or sign it, He stopped signed the pick and before he could run off again I snapped a pic of him and Garbge315.
I spent the rest of the nite asking V.I.P. people if they would mind letting me have their V.I.P. badges for souvenirs, eventually I got Us two of them at the same moment I was getting these I recognize a member from the band's crew and I had hit him up for a playlist from that nite, He went to look for one and returned to let me know they all had been taken, bummer. There We were in the rain contemplating going home when from out of the shadows of the now closing El Rey came this member of the crew with the playlist! " OMG YOU ROCK!" (Don't want to mention names, wouldn't be happy if people got in trouble) This had done it for the nite: Tickets signed,Pictures, Hands been shook, First hand got to express how the music they make, makes Us feel.
This was an AWESOME show, off the charts experience. I walked away with have met one if not the MOST nicest person in my life Mr. Butch Vig,Enjoyed an explosive concert in such an intimate location the El Rey, and most important of all I got to experience, share something with My Girlfriend that She and soo many others LOVE. Thank you Garbage. Thank you My LOVE I had a BLAST! I will forever always remember this concert and the people that were there with Us!
Thank you~
