Leaks can come from everywhere - the pressing plant, the reviewers, the mastering facility, the publishers. Even the band's emails can be hacked.
On the upside, all the people who download leaks are either diehard fans who will buy the record anyway, or people who never buy CDs in the first place so it's not all bad when something leaks early - unless the music isn't liked and negative fan reaction kills off the momentum of the album.
By the time a record leaks there has usually been about 500-1000 people with some level of access to it. That sounds rather crazy but when you consider, all the people in all the world who's jobs require either listening to the album or holding the finished one in their hands... its a LOT of people.

I'd go as far as to say 1,000 people is a very low estimate. Try doubling it. And then some.

I know a few people who have already listened to it, and they say is is fucking stellar. Off the charts, and may get them to the level of stadiums, not arenas.

I know a few people who have already listened to it, and they say is is fucking stellar. I just hope new album will be as awesome as their first two, if not better. With the right promotion, it could be possible.
