I'm not a fan of Glenn Beck, but there I was watching the entire Glenn Beck rally on C-SPAN (3 to 4 hours long) last Saturday.
It seems to me that Beck has a very bright future in becoming a very successful evangelist. I think his popularity as an evangelist would be on par with or larger than the Reverend Billy Graham.
It wouldn't surprise me now if Beck decided to part ways with Fox News in the near future to go on a tour around the country doing evangelical-like rallys like the one we've just seen in D.C.
update:
I have a new found respect for Glenn Beck due to his performance at this rally. He promised that this rally wouldn't go political, and he pretty much kept to his word, ...though one guest clergyman in his speech brought up in one brief sentence the need to protect the sanctity of marriage - i.e., this guest clergyman speaker very briefly expressed opposition against gay marriage. That is the only incidence of an overt political jab my ears heard from the speakers at this rally.
What I very much appreciate, very much value in Glenn Beck is his ability to admit when he has made an error in saying something that is suspect in logic ... like when he called Obama a racist against white people. Beck today is disowning that comment and apologizing to the public for it.
Have we ever seen Rush Limbaugh disown a comment he has made and apologize to the public for it?
That's a very big difference between Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.
Glenn Beck, in his heart of hearts, is honestly trying to do the right thing in his life, ...the right thing as Glenn Beck sees the world through his eyes...
...and our world is full of people with good intentions ... and as the old saying goes ... good intentions go awry ... and it's very fascinating, very interesting, very inspiring ... to watch Glenn Beck struggle in his mind with the question of what it is to "do the right thing" in his life.
...Glenn Beck is a very fascinating individual to watch. He is laying bare his fallible, imperfect human soul to the public for all to see ... this is very compelling television to watch.
That the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams on Monday night did not cover the Glenn Beck rally story ... is a very big mistake made by the NBC News department. The Glenn Beck rally in Washington D.C. was a very big event, a very big news story that should have at least been given a 30 second slot of coverage on the NBC Nightly News on Monday night.
Look, ...I'm a liberal, I'm a progressive spirit, I consider my home channel on my cable TV to be MSNBC, ...and I'm saying that it's very troubling for me to see that NBC Nightly News in their Monday night broadcast gave no coverage at all to the story of the Glenn Beck rally in D.C.
